My opinion, splitting is annoying, however, this allows some of the pairs and some of the women to get prime time exposure.

If they weren't split, then either all of the pairs or all of the women would be during afternoon hours, and most likely not seen by some fans, as most people would still be working.

and, of course, the network wants to get the most viewers for their time.

That's what replays are for though... they could just do a condensed primetime version at like 5:30pm showing the highlights from pairs and then transition directly into G2 of the women. I understand that they can't show every skater during TV broadcasting, but the splitting of the events makes no sense and is detrimental to both the fans and the athletes. NBC has gone with the condensed replay option for events like 4CC and Worlds, so I know they can do it.
