I know the Hungarians came up short here but they should be so proud of themselves. The only clean pair of the whole competition. They got a personal best, 3rd in the FS, and 65 PCS which is HUGE for a pair from a "minor" country.

Like Euros, they will breakthrough. They will medal at Worlds, and this is a huge step for them.

The Hungarians competed incredibly well here,
real Olympic performances, good for them.

I dunno, the Georgians deserve all the GOEs on their elements except for lifts and I think the death spiral today. The quality of their pairs elements are ahead of the Hungarians IMHO. And Hungarians just don't as you say, have the polish of the Germans. Think the Hungarians need to find their style and then will be able to make the leap in PCS that is needed to medal.
And the throw.

Let's be honest though, if the Hungarians were from a more prominent fed, their GOEs would have been slightly higher. I thought their PCS was appropriate. Germans/Georgians definitely didn't deserve 69/70 PCS, but I guess it's the Olympics and all. And I'm good with the results.

Congrats to Riku and Ryuichi on the gold medal, they skated beautifully!! 🙌 🥇
I think P/S were robbed today, the cleanest performances were theirs and after today's free skate I think they were again underscored. :cautious:
Hope to see them at Worlds in Prague, and perhaps with a medal around their neck.

The Georgian judge was pretty shameless, they gave 150.94 to the Georgians, only 151.49 to the M/K, 133.26 to H/V and 130.13 to the Hungarians. This is much more investigation worthy than the ice dance scandal the US media tried to create.

Yeah that judge was up to no good they should definitely take notice.

Not sure in which universe the Hungarians could've possibly been 6th tonight...

Again a Japense man crying his eyes out after a figure skating competition at the Olympics. Guess he could not have continued living with the guilt of having cost a gold medal, so am glad for him it turned out so well. Absolutely deserved win. Disappointed by the Germans of course. Unlike Kihara, Hase did not show any guilt or remorse about her mistakes. I am definitely with the Japanese reaction there.

I know nothing about pairs skating as I don't follow it.

But I remember back in my youth I saw Natalia Mishkutionok/Artur Dmitriev winning the gold at the Albertville 1992 Olympics. And my mind was just blown away.

So, my question is...was Riku Miura/Ryuichi Kihara better than them? (I haven't seen them skate yet, but it was a world record!).
I know this is impossible to compare as the judging is totally different now...can you really compare them?

Also, while Russians are whining that they aren't part of the pairs event, worth noting that 5/8 skaters of the top 4 teams (the Georgians, the Hungarians and Volodin) are all Russian.

And even with M/K's major SP error, it would have been hard for even top pairs Russian teams to beat the Japanese here.
Is the GEO judge from Georgia or is he representing Georgia? Asking for a friend. :slink:

Could some kind soul put me out of my misery and explain what the bleep happened to the Georgians' death spiral? Was it just a dumb mistake?

Asking because it looked almost purposeful to me but then again, it's been a long day and I'm still sad for the Germans.
