Shoma Uno

Shoma, a comforting presence on Twitter including to fellow and reigning Olympic silver medalist Yuma Kagiyama:

They are talking about FRIEREN the animanga, and Shoma shared a little secret to Yuma:

Shoma: It’s often said that monsters lurk at the Olympics, so I think people should probably start learning Zoltraak (a spell Frieren uses to defeat demons) soon.

Yuma: Shoma delivered wonderful performances at both of his Olympics, but I wonder if he dealt with the monsters using Zoltraak?

Shoma: Just between us... Honestly, my second Olympic performance really wasn’t good at all, but I kept stubbornly telling the media that it was the best performance ever, and somehow it ended up becoming a “great performance.” You have to keep this absolutely a secret.

Yuma: I see… I’ll absolutely keep it a secret…!

Also LOL at the Frieren official account quoting Shoma 🤣 Frieren on Ice soon??

Shoma's Twitter account turns 1 year old today. He definitely has had fun with Japanese Twitter enough with it 😅 and he's finally able to display his wit and dry humor, long wasted to just us figure skating fans.

Also a close look on Shoma's and Marin's rotational lift.... hahaha.

And their work with Stephane Lambiel to finish the expression of their new Four Seasons program! This photo is truly everything I have ever wanted.... 😌😌😌

Another little bit of Ice Brave Special Edition 🔥

I have to admit that back in June 2025, I had the privilege to watch Shoma skating Loco live, and while I thought it was good, I also thought it was very hard to recreate the intensity the program had as a competitive program, under competition lights, with real stakes and medals on the line.

But this Loco is just .... 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I don't know what happened between June 2025 and February 2026, and the change of placement in the setlist might have also made an impact to the intensity Shoma has for it. In June 2025 it was the 8th program (still in the first half of the show), while in Feb 2026 it was the 15th program and serves at the penultimate finale of the show, meaning it felt more climactic. But I also think the group tango Shoma did as a lead up to this program with all the other men helped him get into the intensity and mood for Loco.

I also think Shoma finally got the right balance for it to work as a show program, the nicely done 3A and 4T but also the way he now goes back and forth between tension and languidity... and his willingness to wait now adds to the air of this program... the way he moves as Milva's vocals kicks in is so stunningly sinuous. Just the right balance between daringly mad and confidently sensual. Honestly the spicy section of Ice Brave Special Edition made me think that maybe Shoma should look into an Astor Piazzolla ice show - he takes to the composer's music like fish in water.

And that back in this costume 🙏😌🔥

A pretty long vlog about the last day of Ice Brave! Some snippets within (including my favorite part of the big MJ program) but it's mostly the staff interviewing Shoma and the other cast members. Shogun is pretty extensively there... I am wondering if he and Shoma are working in a different capacity now, he was active as a pro gamer but had a hand in some interesting content creating for SSBU....

Also LOL at Shoma recruiting Yoshiki Sato by virtue of him saving Shoma from a random recruiter 😂

A little bonus of Shoma going bowling with the cast and staff at the end - from what I can see he still got it 😂

Hopefully his bowling has improved somewhat. The first game which was the 58 probably killed him. And he's so competitive his score then went up! LOL. These scores are from the summer of 2016 if I remember correctly (while in the U.S. for training).

Shoma out and about today, this time for a game event (DREAM MATCH APEX LEGENDS) in Tokyo.

He shared a tidbit over how there was nearly no one during his skating days that share the same passion for gaming as he does :ROFLMAO: but he also mentioned how he beat up both fellow Olympians Ilia and Adam (Siao Him Fa) in Smash Bros, probably during ice show days.

Thank you so much for sharing this!

A longer transcript of what Shoma said in his press rounds after the APEX event:

Professional figure skater Shoma Uno (28) attended the online gaming event “DREAM MATCH APEX LEGENDS” in Tokyo on the 22nd.
The event is a new-style comprehensive entertainment concept where celebrities, artists, comedians, domestic and international pro players, and streamers form special one-night-only collaboration teams to compete against each other.
Although he modestly said, “I didn’t really have a highlight moment,” Uno showed off his well-honed skills alongside pro gamers, mentioning that he has been playing games since the age of three.
Speaking about both gaming and sports, he said, “Anyone who’s doing something amazing is putting in an equivalent amount of effort. If you don’t work hard every day—sometimes to the point of even coming to dislike something you once loved—you probably can’t reach the level of professionals.” Drawing on his own experience as a skater, he added, “Because I do skating, I can really relate,” reflecting on sharing the stage with pro gamers.
He laughed that among the skaters around him, “there wasn’t anyone who played with the same level of intensity as me.” However, mentioning athletes who competed at the Milan–Cortina Olympics, he revealed: “The overseas men’s skaters who did well this time—I totally beat them up in Super Smash Bros. Ilia Malinin and Adam Siao Him Fa. Adam was the most fired up about wanting to beat me.”

Oh... Ice Brave Special Edition will have a theatrical release across Japan in selected Cinemas from April 3 - 16!
It will then have a theatrical showing from April 24 - May 7 at YEBISU GARDEN Cinema. Very similar run with Mao's Everlasting33, which makes me think they had a similar deal with TBS.

“Ice Brave” The Movie – Limited Theatrical Release Nationwide Confirmed!!

The Shoma Uno ice show “Ice Brave,” which just held its final performance on February 1, 2026, will now be screened in movie theaters.

Filmed with nine ultra-high-definition 4K cameras—including drone cameras—this production captures the full intensity of the show in stunning detail. For its theatrical release, the audio has been specially mixed in 5.1-channel surround sound, creating an experience that feels as if you’re watching live on the ice.

Experience the excitement of the venue once again on the big screen!

^^ That is great news for fans in Japan. This is an ambitious move. I don’t recall any other ice shows debuting in movie theaters, correct me if I am wrong😊

I believe Yuzuru Hanyu's shows have had theater screenings as well...

That being said, I am tempted to change my spring vacation plans to see Ice Brave on a big screen! I'm really proud of Shoma for doing this!

Mao also had her last show, Everlasting33 (the one held in a theater stage) in cinemas in 2024! Shoma's Ice Brave has the same broadcasting sponsor (TBS) and he is now in Mao's management agency back then (Heroes) so I wouldn't be surprised if they worked out the same deal. It was a long wait to finally see videos from the show but the superb quality really is something special.

And of course Yuzuru too, aside from his many solo shows, Fantasy on Ice had viewings from cinemas as well while he was in the cast. I think Daisuke's Hyoen (Ice Fantasy) had cinema screenings too.

Here's the trailer of Mao's show:

And the trailer of Shoma's show:

But yeah I'm a bit excited because I totally didn't expect this for Shoma!! Ice Brave was truly well made, and as someone who has watched it the way they shot this Special Edition was quite exceptional even among Japan's many many many amazing ice shows.

To see it on a big screen and having the sound booming... @yuumagical if you made it to Japan and watch it in person, please share the experience with us! 😄
