Unless something was lost in translation, he didn't speak at all of the debates between fans on how such or such element/component ought to have been scored? If the X analysis you are speaking of, is just an analysis on the skates, it may be accurate or wrong or incomplete, it's part of a normal debate, not harassment!

If you read the translated article, he provided two examples of the messages: that he didn't deserve first place, and that his first 4T in the FS should have been counted as a fall. The latter message is very technically specific, and matches the argument Junhwan's fans were making and spreading after the FS: that Kao's 4T should have been counted as a fall, and Junhwan should have won due to the point deduction Kao should have taken. What starts as a "normal" fan debate can be used as harassment ammunition.

It's easy to say "oh it's just normal scoring debate, no hate on skaters" but it's been so normalized, to the point that there are people who take it not as a debate but as something they can use to directly torment the skaters about. But, I'm not surprised about this, as this has been the direction some fans are heading to for a while. It's just being directed to skaters that fans didn't think it would.

I hope that after the article is translated, fans (especially overseas fans as Kao said) would be more considerate about what they send directly to the skaters. Especially since Kao had another social media issue during the Olympics.

I answer because I really need so but I'm afraid that the place would rather be on The Edge, so I put my answer under spoiler; should you delete your OT posts I would delete mine, and I think that this Fan Fest would be more pleasant.
But it was sent directly to him, and that's what was considered harassment in that case! His smartphone kept ringing and it was for that sort of messages!
I really don't see where you want to go by calling technical debate on Twitter the root of the problem? It is not! In fact the problem has two roots: the lack of respect of others and mastery of SNS; and the lack of trust in Figure Skating scoring, which is in ISU/federations hands and they don't seem to want to address it, far the opposite if it's true that they want to persecute even more those who try to address problems within. Putting the guilt on these people on X/Twitter, who are probably innocent of any wrongdoing, is really misleading.

I do agree with you on the roots of the problem. It's not Kao's fault for how he was judged and scored. And as you said, the lack of respect and mastery of social media has been building for several years in the fandom, it's just usually there were more.... acceptable targets rather than fan favorites getting caught in the crossfire.

I'll give them credit, the Junhwan fans on X/Twitter who made the analysis did call to their fellow fans to not send direct messages to Kao after Kao made the announcement, so I think they are well aware of their own fandom. Alas, it was too late and Kao already felt angry enough to stand up for himself. There are bad apples in all fandoms, there's not much of a point trying to insist on innocence when what we think is objective discussion can be used directly against the skaters in the heat of the moment.

I'm sorry that you're holding on this conversation, with assumptions and a deduction which seem to be wrong, both regarding scoring and fans of a skater or another. Yet, I don't want to answer because, I repeat, it's not the place for it. Why not opening a thread in The Edge?
 
Omigod...all the awful things people are saying about Kao on socials right now 😭
All those accounts that were obviously the ones DMing him after 4CC are boldly and proudly outing themselves without shame
Also, those who likely know nothing about Kao pre-"Beauty and the Beast" saying stuff that makes little to no sense
I can usually ignore the stupid stuff but I'm so angry and sensitive right now that I want to confront...or rather inform but know it's just not worth my time and effort

Why do people have to be so mean? 😭
I'm so happy for and proud of YunaSumi but all I can do is sit here, worry and cry (I kept randomly crying during the Pairs FS)

So far from what I'm seeing, at least the Japanese fans are being supportive...which is probably what matters the most

Yeah, he's still using his broken boots (so stubborn) but that's not likely the issue this time since he was landing most of his jumps fine during practice and the 6 min warmup
I (unintentionally) and all his haters cursed him big time...or according to what they're saying it's "karma"

I "prefer" the Rinky version if you don't mind... and today Rinky preferred Kao Miura (and in a lesser way, Vladimir Livintsev, Younghyun Cha...)
 
I don't know what happened today but he just looked off from the begining, didn't seem locked in and focused enough. What makes Kao so exciting is his speed and power but it also makes the jumps so much more risky and when sth is slightly off it's hard not to loose control. It's been a long and tough season, I think he's just exausted, probably even more mentally than phisically. He started with pretty serious injury and then everything was rushed because of the olympics, he just didn't have time to settle properly and it lingered.

I hope he'll get all support he needs to get over this, reset and use the off season to adress his issues slowly, step by step, hopefully, without injuries. I'm happy he's working with mental coach, it makes me less worried. I also hope he can work a lot on his spins and steps levels to secure every single point for the future, it matters a lot.

I believe he'll be fine. One failure doesn't take away anything from his talent, potential and abilities.
 
I've seen Kao live 3 times. His speed and wildness are definitely fun and intoxicating. In that scenario though, I think sometimes the program almost starts to "get away" from the skater. Several skaters immediately come to mind who fall into that category. I know I have written more than once in the comp. threads "Control your energy Kao." This is all just speculation, of course. Energy brings vitality to his skating though, so there's a fine line there.

Hopefully he can hit the delete key in his mind :biggrin: for the negative vibes and get a fresh start next season. He has lots of fans cheering him on.

I don't speak Japanese so I used authomatic translation which may not be very accurate at times but it still was very interesting. He spoke very honestly about the need to change his training environment, taking a lot of options to consideration, including training partly abroad (he's talking about cooperation with another coach rather than moving his base completely). After his bad short program at worlds he had a long conversation with Rio who not only wanted to comfort him but he also asked Rio for honest opinion about what he needs to change. I liked this part a lot, as well as part about Tatsuya, whom he convinced not to end his career yet. Those guys really care for each other a lot, it's great to see.

And they have selected music that has been used by Dai in the past*, so now I'm wrecking my brain, which one of his past music choices would suit Kao? I imagine, if it's mentioned this specifically, it would be music that is relatively closely associated with Dai (from the pov of Japanese skating fans). Maybe Pagliacci, Invierno Porteño/Primavera Porteña or Nyah? (I hope it's not El Tango de Roxanne! 😅)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Kana's choreo for Kao. She really seems to be entering the next stage as a choreographer considering that she is working with at least two top senior skaters next season (with Sota being the other one)! 🥰

That would be an interesting choice – not one I’d consider obvious for Kao, but definitely an opportunity to develop artistically in a new direction.
