2025-26 British and Irish figure skating

Is there anyone we can steal from another country when Kristen retires? It's looking a bit bleak for a few years.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Aleksandra Golovkina-Dolinske had switched/was going to switch from skating for Lithuania to skating for Britain - here's her profile: https://isu-skating.com/figure-skating/skaters/aleksandra-dolinske/
I was joking, but I know she has been in Dundee for ages.

I don't really follow juniors, except the absolute stars, but I can see our junior national champ, Alice Smith, is very young, so if Nina retires as well as Kristen, we really do have a gap for a while, unless there's someone I don't know about.

We're British. We have no great expectations, but we've normally been able to field competitors at Euros, and often at Worlds. It'll feel weird not to have a women's representative to root for to make the free!

Fortunately, most of my joy as a spectator is not tied to national interest, but I do like British skaters to be involved, and was pleased we managed to qualify a team to the Olympics.

I am hoping that things might click into place for Emma Lyons. She has a lot of potential, but is very inconsistent. We know that Simon Briggs can do well with late bloomers - just look at where Natasha Mckay/Johnson got to.

Arina Vorobeva will actually be senior eligible next year, though probably better off staying in juniors a bit longer - she seems to have had a tough season with injuries but I think she has plenty of potential. Crossing my fingers for her that she can have better luck next season so she has a chance to keep improving.

Emma Lyons' scores look pretty low, she'd need a lot more to get the TES for Euros:

Simon's skaters are always very well-presented, and I think he creates a good atmosphere where his skaters seem to reliably go out and perform what they are capable of - Natasha didn't have the biggest tech, or the smoothest skills, but she'd often make the free over skaters with a higher ceiling, and if she fell early in the free, she would not let it derail the rest of the programme. And she was a very enjoyable performer.

Despite her fall in Junior Worlds today, without which she'd have made the free, I thought Alice looked good for her age, obviously a lot to work on, but she has time. Not being in the loop, I didn't expect to see the Selevkos' coach with her.

Bit of a rough skate for Davison and Borisov, after doing well to make it through to the free, but they handled it really well. He's built like a tank!

Last I knew, Alice was training in Romford with John Wicker. Seems like she must have moved. Her ISU bio now has her training in St Petersburg. She is quite young for that sort of move away from friends and family.

Russia or Florida?

Russia or Florida?

Russia. Moscow and Sochi are also mentioned as training locations.

Irina Kononova, Ekaterina Moiseeva and Kirill Aleshin are listed as her coaches.

I always say that it is hugely beneficial for Singles skaters to have an Ice Dancer as part of their coaching team, so in that regard I am pleased to see Aleshin's name there.

But, I'm a bit confused because the last I heard, Kononova was based in Tallinn. And had been for donkey's years.

Yeah, it's confusing, but she was there with Alice - and which rink is it that the comms referenced as collapsing?

Rooster Cup Advanced Novice Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No videos uploaded yet 😞

Caoilfhionn finished 23rd out of 26 in the SP, with a score of 23.57.

Lexie finished 26th out of 26 in the SP, with a score of 18.52.

Here is what I wrote in the competition thread at the start of the segment:

Here is what I wrote when Lexie was being introduced:

Here is what I wrote about Lexie's programme:

Here is what I wrote about Caoilfhionn's programme:

Caoilfhionn is currently 0.58 points behind 22nd position, Elisa GALLUCCIO (ITA), and 0.39 points ahead of 24th position, Bibian Esther NAVARRO RICALDI (ESP). All three of them are part of a group where 18 skaters are covered by 10.13 points, stretching from Lelle Agota MOLNAR (ROU) in 8th position, 9.41 points ahead of Caoilfhionn, down to Constance MESNIL (FRA) in 25th position, 0.72 points behind Caoilfhionn.

That was using my usual guide of using 2.00 point gaps to define groups. If I cut it down to 1.00 point gaps, then the three of them are part a group where 11 skaters are covered by 4.87 points, stretching from Charlie HALLET (FRA) in 15th position, 4.15 points ahead of Caoilfhionn, down to Mesnil.

Lexie is currently 4.33 points behind 25th position, Constance MESNIL (FRA), and 4.66 points behind 24th position, Bibian Esther NAVARRO RICALDI (ESP).

Caoilfhionn is in a very good position. If she has a good Free Skate, she could move considerably up the order. But, she has to be careful, because she could also drop down a couple of positions.

If Lexie has a good free skate, and some of the skaters in front of her have a nightmare skate, there is a chance that she could move up. But it is a big ask.

So let's hope they do both have good Free Skates.

:cheer: WELL DONE LEXIE AND CAOILFHIONN!!! :cheer:

The Advanced Novice Ladies FS is due to start at 17:30:00 CEST (15:30:00 GMT / 16:30:00 BST / 18:30:00 EEST). So 10 hours from now.

Lexie will be the 1st skater to start. So, first skater to go in Group 1.

Caoilfhionn will be the 4th skater to start. So, fourth and antepenultimate skater to go in Group 1.

The Group 1 Warm-Up is due to start at 17:30:00 CEST (15:30:00 GMT / 16:30:00 BST / 18:30:00 EEST). So 10 hours from now.

Lexie is due to start at 17:35:30 CEST (15:35:30 GMT / 16:35:30 BST / 18:35:30 EEST). So 10h 5m from now.

Caoilfhionn is due to start at 17:53:30 CEST (15:53:30 GMT / 16:53:30 BST / 18:53:30 EEST). So 10h 23m from now.

Anastasia Vaipan-Law and Luke Digby have split. :( Luke is retiring. It is a split I had feared...
What a pity - my favourite current pairs team!

They've been absolutely brilliant and have done such a lot for British Pairs Skating.

Best wishes to Luke for the next chapter.

I hope Ana decides to continue competing and finds a good partner - she's an amazing skater.

Bringing Luke's announcement post over from the Retirements & Splits thread:

Thank you to @saine for letting us know.

I'm gutted. But, I'm glad Luke is leaving on his own terms, and not through injury or falling out with people or anything like that.

Thank you for all the joy you have brought us over the years, Luke. And all the best for the future!

And the same to Ana as well!

That's a shame, they were lovely. The British senior team is really thinned out by losing them and Kristen. Tricky to find a partner an an elite level.

I agree with both of you.

As for a new partner for Ana, Harry Mattick immediately came into my mind as a good possible candidate.

I know there had been a partnership between Zinia Wood and Harry announced earlier this season, but did it ever actually get off the ground after all the negative reaction?

No harm to Zinia, but Ana would be a much more suitable partner for Harry.
