2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

It's a nice photo of Fiona & Loucas in their announcement. Good luck to them in their new partnership. Still, what was the reason for the split with Ben?? Fiona & Ben had looked very promising, especially after Fiona's newbie-to-pairs struggles with her partner prior to Ben.

Fiona seems to struggle a lot with injuries and partner changes. Unless and until she settles in for the long haul with a partner and stays healthy physically, I am not convinced she will achieve pairs success.

Is it possible that Loucas has a 3LZ in his bag of tricks. We know Fiona does. Be nice if they start out with a big trick .... would set them apart.

I don't think he did. I'd have to look back in old protocols but I don't remember him being able to do flips or lutzes.

Updates on Pairs that I had as status TBD:

- Cheung/Lee did split, Ava will be competing Junior with Keith Lau while Stephen will be moving back to Novice with Elena Peltier
- Wong/Conforti are entered for BC High Performance in June so they are still together
- Eliana Secunda posted an Instagram story of practicing a lift with Benjamin Mimar, so new team there?

Some good rearranging of height differences there by KMT. Ava is still so very tiny and the small but strong Keith Lau is a better match for her than, currently, Stephen Lee. His technique still hasn't settled down after his own growth spurt and he'll be more comfortable at the Novice technical level with Elena.

Ava 👏
She is so cute. Glad she found another partner. I hope she stays in Juniors for a while. She needs to work on her jumps though to be more competitive

Eliana and Benjamin wow 😮
I never expected this. I don’t find her to be up to his standard. Maybe, this will push her.

Wong/Conforti 👏
Still together is a bonus these days

Also, just to get away from Pairs and Dance, most of our top singles Junior and even Senior skaters were at a recent technical camp four days ago with Mie Hamada and Mone Chiba also present.

I love to see Lia Cho getting close to Minsol Kwon. Looks like Minsol is definitely Canadian. I hope she is allowed to compete this upcoming season. She has already lost two Junior seasons and with Canada only being able to send one junior girl to each event, I can cheer for Lia and Minsol at each of their respective events. They both can medal if Russia isn’t allowed back to the international scene. Just amazing to see a lot of our talent like Fee Ann and Grayson and Eddie, at this camp. I hope they push each other to improve both their technical and skating skills 😍

The BC event was interesting today 🤔

It was head to head bouts consisting of three jumping elements, three spin elements and a step sequence to break any ties. Athletes in Pre-Novice, Novice, Juniors, and Seniors advance from Qualifying, to Quarters, to Semis, and then finals to battle for gold and a podium spot

I only watched three events:

Junior Boys
Teryn won here. Christopher Manis won silver and has improved. I hope he reads this chat to get the hint that he should be in Pairs

Senior Women
My gorgeous Amy was here and won easily. She was attempting lutzes and even went for a 3T 3T. She underrotated and wasn’t close. Very few athletes could beat her because when she got to the spins it was all level fours and then good luck beating her in a step sequences battle.

Senior Men
William Chan won easily. His triple axel is more consistent and he even attempted a quad toe. However, his combos were inconsistent and need work.

I read that Ben Mimar posted a practice clip with Eliana Secunda. 🤔 Does this mean that Secunda and Thierry Ferland have split?

Does anyone know the reasoning behind the Bombardier/ Mimar split and subsequent Bombardier/ Ethier pairing? Ben had Fiona had looked very good together. Plus, Ben seemed to be waiting patiently while Fiona was rehabbing from surgery last season.

ETA:
Has Thierry retired?

From what I saw of Eliana and Thierry at Cdn Nats, Eliana struggles with jump elements, but she seemed to be graceful otherwise, with lovely aesthetics. There must not be anyone else readily available for Ben.

I'd still love to know what precipitated Fiona & Ben splitting. Is there a relationship connection between Fiona & Loucas? They seemed very happy together in the announcement photo, plus they looked good in the lift training clip. I hope Fiona sticks with Loucas, as she has switched partners often within a short period.
