2025-26 U.S. Pairs Figure Skating

Taking stock of the post-Worlds figurative carnage, I looked back at 2026 U.S. Nationals pairs results:

Only 10 teams competed, and 4 are known to be caput, with a 5th possibly not returning next season or at all (tbd).

There will be a lot of new pairs teams domestically and internationally, thus the returning teams with more experience together will have a competitive advantage. In the U.S., Efimova/ Mitrofanov will likely lead as veteran champs. I don't expect to see Ellie & Danny return next season, but we may not hear their decision for several more weeks at least.

So, the current U.S. pairs landscape:

Returning teams
Efimova/ Mitrofanov
Liu/ Bedard
Plazas/ Fernandez
Williams/ Lewer
Fitzpatrick/ Bearinger
ETA:
Cooke/ Kennedy (tho' I thought Sydney had moved on or retired 🤔)

New pairings
Andrews/ Parkman
Shin/ Howe
McBeath/ Nagy
Ream/ Neudecker -- *they started a Gofundme for training expenses*
(There's also a young team recently partnered at MMpairs, who might compete in seniors, whose names I can't recall)

Still looking?
Emily Chan
Timmy Chapman
Nica Digerness
Olivia Flores
Mark Sadusky
Danylo Siianytsia
Luke Wang

Please decipher! I can’t figure anything out from that pic.

If you watch the Instagram reel you'll notice that screen shot is Timothy Chapman and Emily Chan and the words on that reel says pair introduction... it's also interesting to note that there were other videos from this where it's Timothy demonstrating with Emily

My knee jerk reaction was also "Is this an announcement?" but then I realized that the video was taken of Tim instructing pair elements to the Thailand skaters. So "Pair introduction" actually means introducing pairs to those Thailand skaters. He also did a pair element with one of the coaches. Now, I am not completely ruling out this possible partnership and I think they could fit. Timmy needs a partner and Emily would be nice.

I'm going to wait for announcements to be made, which I'm hoping will be soon. I keep checking IG, another site and the GS forums for any updates. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas morning on news for pairing announcements.

Not quite this was posted on Olga and Alexs coaching Instagram page. Snippets are elsewhere of Timothy teaching but this was only on the coaches official instagram page

I agree with bckabck, so many rumors and changes that I'm going to wait until official announcements before I consider any new possible pair teams.Crossing my fingers that these announcements come soon; this waiting is not fun.

Correct, the whole team is there to work with the Thailand skating federation and is teaching them. The whole thing is a training camp for the Thailand skaters to learn from an elite training camp. So this wasn't an announcement of the coaches for a new pair team, but what they have been working on and showing to the skaters. In the past few days that's really all their posts have been. If they do end up being a new pair team it'll be a more official post and it will say something along the lines that they are a new team and excited for the future, etc. etc.

Hmm, I think pairing up for the long haul requires much more than it being 'nice' and out of 'necessity.' It has to be because it fits well on many levels and would potentially benefit them both. I have heard that both Emily Chan and Katie McBeath have tried out with Danylo Siianytsia. Thus, some potential pairings are yet to be solidified. Seemingly, the intention is to take time to be sure rather than rushing into partnering statements on social media. Of course, trying to keep things discreet is next to impossible in the digital age.

Since GP announcements are soon to be revealed, maybe we will begin to hear more about solidified pairings. Otherwise, there will be a lot of tbd listings and info subject to change when GP assignments are published.

I totally agree and maybe me using 'nice' was misleading because your writing makes it sound like you think I am naïve when it comes to skating teams? (Could have misread your intention.) I'm not down playing the effort, commitment and right feel of a pairing at all. Also sometimes a week or two week try out isn't enough to see if something will work or not. I'm just simply thinking I could see them paired up given what I have seen of both Emily and Timmy's skating, and believe that it could work.

Also, I said earlier that I'm waiting for official announcements to be made. Right now, things are up in the air, rumored and speculated. So I'm hoping we'll get news soon about pairs (hence the Mr. Bean meme ).

Don't be offended. My comments have nothing to do with you personally. We're all engaged in a back-and-forth about the sport, spur of the moment. Tone is missed because we aren't speaking face-to-face. I have an academic style of writing which can sound authoritative, but that does not mean I'm an authority on the sport or what's happening. Spur of moment back-and-forth is all. We are all trying to figure out this moment in the sport. Let's enjoy each other's takes, queries, and off-hand remarks. Enjoy the suspense we are engaged in as it will soon be over.

Emily and Timmy may well be pairing up. It's entirely possible. I can barely wait to see where all the musical chairs participants will land and where some of these potential new teams will train. The main thing with Emily is will she gain confidence and consistency with the jumps and throws? Perhaps with a new partner, things could start looking and feeling better for her, as long as her ankles are healthy. Possibly, a long time partner setup can get mired in a rut. So yeah, maybe like with Ryan & Chelsea, an unexpected partnership pairing can be refreshing and rejuvenating. Timmy waited so long and patiently with Ellie Korytek when they could neither skate junior nor senior internationally. So he deserves some bountiful success with an experienced partner. Above all, I want all the pairs ladies with jump consistency issues to break out of their slumps!!!

BTW, Danylo Siianytsia is often mentioned as a tryout partner. I would imagine he will remain with his Minnesota coach. I can see him going to Boston, before I could see him in Irvine. And I don't see Katie moving away from Irvine coaches.
