2024-25 U.S. Pairs Figure Skating

Not completely all's well that ends well. Danny has to heal properly then begin training again, all our other teams have to heal. and we have to earn/confim that third spot in pairs later this autumn. It's looking very hopeful, but again, I'm going to cross my fingers and my toes that all that has to happen DOES happen.

right, Beccari broke her foot at the end of last season and ended up withdrawing from the GP and all major competitions. :( hope Danny doesn't get too bored.

You mean he injured it 2 days before Worlds. Danny himself said it was NOT known to be broken when first examined. I do not know whether it is because x-rays were not done or the break didn't show at first. In any case, it was not learned that his foot was broken until after Worlds took place. Danny had even skated in the exhibition post-event.
You are correct. I should have been more specific.

And Spencer Howe had surgery mid-2023 and still does not look to be 100%. Sometimes full recovery can take longer than anticipated.

It's possible to put a serious crack in a bone that would heal if rested, but after repeated poundings over days of jump practice and then performance the crack deepens until it finally splits in an open fracture. (Quoted from my pairs partner, a trauma surgeon who specializes in sports injuries.)
Makes logical sense for sure. Skating on an injured foot instead of resting it might have led to a full-on crack. But we are not aware of exact details in Danny's case.

No matter what we think or speculate, though, it was Danny's and his doctors, and U.S. fed's decision to make with the info they had available to them at the time. Surely, Danny is glad he competed and eager to rest up as needed and heal asap, so he and Ellie can begin planning for next season. At this juncture, they may get a later start than usual. At the least, they can begin working on exploring music, choreographers, and costumes for the Olympic season.

Oh, for sure. Individual and collective journeys continue. 👍 I was specifically referring to the difficult challenge that Kam/O'Shea faced, and to the battle in Boston that both U.S. pairs teams fought and came out of, victorious. They did their best in the moment, and that's all anyone can ask of athletes.

Not many people expected these two teams to achieve this result at Worlds. It certainly was not a given going in, though it was possible with their skill, desire, talent, and the results they had shown during the GP. It is a significant achievement worthy of recognition. Of course, the Olympic qualifier will determine if three U.S. pairs teams go to the 2026 Olympics. My fingers are crossed, as it should have happened for 2022 Olympics! Such a shame Calalang/ Johnson were unable to go to Worlds or Olympics that year. 😢 It's great that three U.S. pairs teams will definitely compete at 2026 Worlds. :cheer:

What is the rule as to which pair skates in the qualifying event? Does it have to be a team that did not skate at Worlds?

I believe that a team which did skate at Worlds but did not qualify for the free skate can also be used in the qualifying event, but that would not apply here—both US teams qualified.

Yes. Vincent did not make the free skate and went to Nebrlhorn and skated. Had he made the free skate it wouldn’t have been necessary.

I wonder if it would have been better if Ellie and Danny skip the Grand Prix series so Danny can completely heal (while still training but without the stress of competing) and be ready for Nationals and Olympics (fingers crossed).

Danny is posting on IG about how he's doing. He's progressed to water exercises. Likely in another month or so, he can begin tentative on-ice practice, so that he and Ellie can start working on new programs. I'm sure they will compete on the GP this fall if Danny is healthy and ready to go.

Ellie & Danny are in Montreal, likely getting new choreo from Marie-France & co. 🙂

Interesting news about Timmy Chapman moving to Skating Club of Boston coaches, Olga Ganicheva & Alexey Letov. It was announced on IG by Olga that Timmy is looking for a new partner. Perhaps Ellie Korytek did not want to make a move to Boston.

Oh NO. Nooooooo

Yes. After all that trying to stay together while not being able to compete internationally due to age restrictions on Ellie. 😳
I mean…..he’s a highly skilled pairs guy, which isn’t something the US is full of…..but why? I’m sure he will find another partner…but…
