Eight years ago, on June 8th 2018, Yuzuru Hanyu was receiveing a Japan Olympic Committee Award:
Melos Magazine reported his speech on this occasion:
It's not a big anniversary but I would like to write, for those who haven't followed Yuzuru Hanyu for long, or who simply don't know, that while the Japan Skating Federation has always been rather if not very hostile to Yuzuru Hanyu for diverse reasons (starting from his not being from a powerful region), the Japanese Olympic Committee was very helpful to him; and particularly, funded his studies abroad, in Toronto, after his Four Continents medal at 16 and his World Medal at 17 had shown them that he was extremely promising.
Today alas, the Japanese Olympic Committee is headed by a person who has always been extremely hostile to Yuzuru Hanyu (and abusive to other athletes).
