Ladies SP

3Lz looked clearly rotated on replay. Didn't show the 3F. Nancy says 2A was downgraded.

Czisny 65.75
Zhang 58.91
Hacker 54.79
Nagasu 54.79 -- 4th by tiebraker.

And she skated way better than last year, but the judges' score clearly is telling her another story, "No you didn't improve at all, you skated as bad as last year."

But aren't others always saying that you can't compare PCS and GOE from competition to competition? Why do so for the same skater, from one comp to another a year later.

I think the judging has changed significantly this year. I still don't like how PCS are applied, but judges seem to be getting a clearer picture of how to use PCS. Speed seems to be everything, and Caroline apparently has some issues with that (so I've read), so I think they are judging her with 2008-2009 season PCS standards.

Aw. No repeat for Mirai. Hopefully, she can move up in the long. If she doesn't make it to 4CCs or Worlds, I hope she can then fully heal that ankle and come roaring back next year.

Chrissy Hughes (Arpeggio and Sonata in A Minor?)

You don't see long-sleeved dress that much any more, but she seems to wear them a lot
1Lo (intended 3Lo+2T)
CCoSp4
3S+2T step-out, at least she added the 2T
SlSt ok
Beautiful back spiral to 2A step out
LSp1
SpSq2
FCSp3
Why doesn't her scrunchie match her dress?

If speed is everything in judges' eys, then Mirai's PCS is incredibly low. Anyway, I have no confidence in current US judging system.

I think judges are trying to be fairer and more in line with international judges because they want to try to get US 3 spots for next year and are trying to be realistic with the skaters. When she is on, Alissa is one of the best in the World. What are Caroline's and Mirai's PCS from international judges?

When is Wagner?

I haven't watched other games because I've only expected to watch her.
And Who is the first so far? Czisny?
I'm really happy to watch Czisny too.

Speed certainly helps. Transitions on entrances and exits on jumps amp up the transition portion of the PCs. If you have good jump technique with edges like butter (think Sato), skating skills should be around the 8 ball park. Skating clean should allow for the rest of the pcs portions to follow around what you get for transitions and skating skills. I don't recall skaters getting high PCs for choreography but low pcs for skating skills. They're usually correlated, like it or not. Frankly, I only take the SS and transition portions seriously because the rest is just subjectivity.

Joelle Forte (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) finally made nationals again! Last time she was at nationals was in 200, also in Cleveland.

3Lz+2T nice
2A slowed way down going into it
FSSp4
SpSq4
LSp2, no arch whatsoever in basic layback position
CiSt slow
3S ok
CCoSp3
Jumps were a bit hesitant, but good skate overall and she is very pleased.

wow - so if Mirai had rotated the 2a and landed it more or less clean, that would have been another 4 points? She would have tied Caroline, roughly?

Just a quick view through GP results, it seems as if Mirai's PCS is roughly 1 point lower and Caroline's is a bit higher here. So, I don't see what the huge scandal is.
