Ladies Free Skate

Yes, the new crop of Russian girls are amazing. Being so young, they'd have to contend with growth spurts etc, but I'm sure they have an immense amount of talent and will go far!

Nobody is jealous of Kostner except perhaps her European compatriots who desperately want somebody, anybody from that part of the world on the podium.
Kostner is simply a laughing stock in FS history. I certainly don't envy any current European lady's skill sets. Those Finish girls are pretty, but they don't jump...:laugh:

my post wasn't about kostner...I was just sayng that I'm tired because every time an european win something beating an america or a japanese there's a lot of people who complain! that's it!

btw I am not a fan of kostner because I just want an italian on the podium, but because I really like her style and her personality! but you'll never hear me sayng that the american cannot skate or the japanese don't deserve to be at the top of the world or whatever!

Can you elaborate?? I came to think that all of the skating federations around the world have one problem or the other and all I can hope is that they don't savotage their skaters' career.

hi BelleFille! :) In November Piseev stated that if their Ladies "can't compete at the level of Slutskaya o Butyrskaya, they can even quit to skate, nobody will complain"
So a nice "pfffzzzz" to Piseev (as well as Hersch)

I like this comment on our newly minted European Queen #2. it makes me laugh so hard.

If there was anything to enjoy about Leonova's program, I missed it. In the SP she had no clean landings, in the LP she had one. She will get the appropriate SWR boost though and I suspect she will be in first.

ETA: PCS for Leonova are nothing short of CRIMINAL
.

I tend to agree. Leonova skated the exact same program at 2008 JW with a slightly cleaner performance, and her PCS scores from 2008 were 10 points lower than her 2009 PCS scores.

Of course, with 3 SSR judges on the panel, I expected Leonova to medal right from the getgo, but I was shocked to see her FS score. IMO, she should have been at least second, maybe third.

Her PCS was also 5 points higher than what she got at Euros. She landed those jumps, but the landings were so sloppy let alone other things such as subpar choreography, spins etc. When her scores came up, I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought Ashley would certainly outscore her.

Do you really think the Lithuanian judge would have any reason to favour Leonova? The other form SSR judges never favoured Lithuania's ice dancers! And if the judges from Belarus and Russia really were marking her higher than anyone else, one set of marks from them would've been dropped. That leaves only one judge of five, and that's assuming the other judge wasn't randomly dropped.

You know, all those Americans that criticise the US-American skaters: Caroline is slow, bad edges, bad jumping technique - Wagner has juniorish presentation, too hasty... But in all those posts and threads where you criticised your skaters, you simply forgot to mention that you still think that your girls / skaters in general are better than everyone else. You should have mentioned that!

Apparently the judges saw a different program by Leonova than the rest of you; she got just two negative GOEs: on the downgraded 3R and her 3F-2T combination. Pretty good for not one clean jump. But there was probably a KGB agent sitting behind every non-Eastern-European judge and slapped the judge everytime the judge wanted to hit a negative GOE.

It's not just American fans ... Generally speaking, Chinese HATE Russian/European judges, especially Russian federation, Korean & Japanese fans have very low opinion of Russian/european judges as well. The truth is European ladies simply can't land jumps, they don't have the flexibility either. Simply put it, they don't have the skill sets but still 'manage' to medal. That really turns off lots of people.

That is because PCS scores are relative, when she is compared with Caroline's tiny jumps and slow speed, her skating skills suddenly look so much better:)

I consider this to be inappropiate generalization.

Yes, it happens with such depressing regularity...all those European podium sweeps on the GP last year...

Yeah, another excuse to make a leap from 10th to a silver medal. You should just lay it off, it's getting tiresome.:laugh:

The truth is Zhang won't be defeated by some anonymous posters despite her technical deficiency. It must be disheartening that so many of her detractors will have another unhappy weekend. LOL.

There're plenty of anti-American judges out there. The American has to be perfect to be medalled. Small mistakes will leave the door open and opportunity for the Russian to be awarded the medal by the outrageous overmarked PCS. Now, I understand why the ISU created this COP/PCS, this leaves the opportunity for politiks and scam in this sports. They can manipulate the outcome fairly easily.

I don't think anybody can argue that the Russian was sloppy, the jumps were shaky, the PCS was definitely way overmarked. She reminds me of Irina Slutskaya who could jump but has no artistry. However, Irina's jumps were much better.
