But Sasha looks good in her outfits........many of Johnny's strike me as ridiculous.
For better or worse society is still more accepting of a girl being a girl as opposed to Johnny's act.
I have seen Sasha's PDSTM routine and it is not that far out or much different from what kids see on MTV, DWTS or many other reality shows.

But neither is Gaga. I don't know where some people have been hiding. And I'm pretty much an old fogey myself! (But still with a lot of the East Village in me, I guess.)
Not denying that Sasha looks good but that number was sickening. Gaga, OTOH, was actually inventive and new. Like Avatar before Avatar.

Grgranny, there is significant research that suggests that being gay is not a choice and has nothing to do with having the "wrong" hormones. As a gay person I can also tell you it's not terribly sad either.
Back to Johnny, he has a flamboyant personality that I think is who he genuinely is. Some people love attention and performing for others. Johnny seems to be one of those folks. I find him entertaining both on his show and as a skater. And Johnny appeals to non-skating fans and can put them in the seats. My partner would go see SoI if Johnny was on the tour. She is not interested in any other skaters, just him. I bought two tickets for SoI and will go with a friend. If Johnny was on the tour, I would have bought three tickets. It's about the $$$, SoI!

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) broke news on Thursday that the two-time Olympian was allegedly deemed “not family friendly” by the tour’s sponsors.
Johnny Weir spoke to Billy Bush for “The Billy Bush Show” and Access Hollywood on Friday morning to address his exclusion.

This afternoon on MSNBC - Dylan Ratigan show - Johnny and the petition were mentioned. I was on the phone at the time but heard a petition with over 6000 names is being circulated by "GLAAD."

Why does Johnny even care? As a self-proclaimed Russophile won't he be happier skating in the koi show with Plushy touring his wannabe motherland, wearing furs and skating for rubles? :think:
And is SOI supposed to dump the Olympic champion and US National champion for Johnny?
I think his actions and the negative publicity may wind up hurting skating in USA. And even if each night there might be a few hundred fans in the audience that specifically came to see Johnny does that mean SOI should dump more accomplished skaters just to please him?
This is the story of his career. He has been too outspoken and burned too many bridges. He doesn't seem to give a damn about anything he says or does until he wants something.
Sorry but SOI is absolutley within their rights to add Evan, Jeremy, Alissa and Mirai.
If Johnny wants to tour the USA so badly for his fans then he should get some backing and put together his own show. Scott did it when it wasn't working out for him with Ice Capades and why can't Johnny do the same? If he has half as many fans as we hear he does then it would seem very possible for him to start a new tour that would be better and more hip than SOI and draw a bigger crowd.
I would respect that and even go see such a show. But it takes alot of guts and vision to do what Scott did. Of course Scott had 4 WC's and an OGM to back up his name.
Johnny has no such record of accomplishment.

I don't see what Johnny has done to rouse such ire. Let me rephrase that. He hasn't earned such ire. This is getting ugly.
Anyway, when was the last time you were at SOI? Two years ago, 3/4 of the seats were empty. A year ago, it was only a little better. Wouldn't it seem that adding a top skater with a big following would benefit everyone who wants SOI to succeed? There's no need to cut anyone - certainly not the big names you've mentioned. Just add him. They could substitute Gaga for 3 minutes of that horrible baby-talk about what skaters eat for breakfast - and sell easily 100 more tickets at each performance. Maybe more like 400 or 500 if they promoted him.

I'm not sure sure Johnny not being invited is a gay issue as Rudy Galindo (who is about as flamboyant as they come..but also a great skater) skated for Stars on Ice. Johnny has done a great job of garnering attention but not of being popular here in the state. Be it because of him wearing a Russian jacket when he's representing the US, choosing to wear fur and remarking flippantly about it, or his funny but sometimes over the top comments. With ticket sales being so far down for skating in this country, I think it's probably a wise business decisoin to book athletes who they know will sell tickets. Johnny has plenty of fans accross the world and will do just fine getting hired by shows. Nowadays he probably has a better chance skating for his beloved Russia....here's your chance Johnny! Like they saw on Project Runway...make it work girl!

It's getting silly, and a little annoying actually. Is Johnny the only American skater who has never been invited to SOI? I don't know the history. Why didn't people do petition while he was fresh three time and reigning national champion? He didn't need that at that time, did he?

um All I see/hear/read of him lately is someone having a problem with him or whining about who he is or what he stands for.
Have you sat down with him? Have you discussed with him what he wants, or if he in fact wants anything at all but a little less hate?
On a related note, Evan is an Olympic champion. Why doesn't he start his own show. Like, immediately, please. *eyeroll*

I think you might have a good point about attendance.
But I seriously doubt if going on TV talk/Entertainment shows and accusing SOI of homophobic bigotry is going to in anyway endear Johnny with Scott or some of the other longtime SOI cast members.
You mentioned "ugly" and from what I am reading and hearing on the News it does have the potential to get ugly.
So what is Weir's goal here - if SOI won't hire him for a few months he is willing to smear them in the news and launch petitions against them? To bring them down if possible?

It is not even a matter of what may be right or wrong - but why would SOI want to go anywhere near Johnny now? In their eyes he is trouble.
They might have been wrong but I don't see what choice they have now. SOI has supposedly been like a family over the years. Why do you think they want to add a skater who is willing to ruin them if he could?

It's getting ugly is because gay communities now are using it.
Rudy Galindo skated with the Champions on Ice tour, a completely separate tour which is no longer in existence. I don't think he ever skated for Stars on Ice.
