2010-2011 Programs by Discipline

Re: 2010-2011 Season Programs! All Disciplines

Christina has also been working with Orser for longer though, last year was her first year training with him and she improved so much. At 2009 nationals, she had a lot of potential and lovely jumps but she fell a lot on her jumps, skated slowly with pretty weak basics, and was quite gawky and awkward. Going to Orser helped Christina improve immensely over the course of last season, so potentially the same thing could happen to Min-Jung this season. I know last season Min-Jung didn't even have a coach and yet she still did pretty well for herself.

That is a good point. I could definitely see Min-Jung making big strides this season, but I think she has further to go in terms of her jumps than Christina does in terms of her artistry. Having good jumps is definitely an advantage in the IJS where jumps are worth so much more than other elements. Both Min-Jung and Christina are late bloomers, not at all where Yu-Na was at age 16. I just hope Korea doesn't expect Min-Jung to somehow be the kind of superstar that Yu-Na was.

:)Jeremy's SP -This is a very nice program..I don't know if Jeremy can summon the amount of machismo needed to completely own it...but I hope he can . I do think there should be just slightly less arm movement for translation onto ice ( harder to match feet to arms, plus some movements have nothing to do with either Flamenco or Tango , and just seem thrown in for the hell of it ) and there's a bit too much "face fondling" for my liking, but overall, potentially great.

Korea already loves Min-Jung anyways, so I don't think they expect too much. She's already all over the media there now, and I think the people like how she is friends with Yuna. Plus she's cute and all that so she takes pictures well and can make a good commercial. I agree about jumps though. The one thing about Min-Jung that I see that could potentially make her different from a Zhang or Czisny type skater is that her jump technique is actually pretty good, her lutz takes off the right edge, her loop has a nice tight air position, she really uses her edges going into the salchow, the 2a doesn't come from a standstill, etc so I think what she really needs is just more height and flow out of the jumps, and I think developing her speed and strength might give her just that, so hopefully she won't need a complete overhaul on her technique.

Ok, I love MOG but I think it is becoming one of the most overused pieces of music. What is it with Lori Nichol these days? That said, Mirai has the qualities to make that program truly magical

Patrick Chan SP from Liberty -
I don't think anyone has linked to this yet. Apologies if it's a duplication :

Nice program. Nice opening jump.;) ( I hope that won't be considered provocation.)
I do hope he'll learn to relax and be a bit more playful as the season progresses. I think they're really trying to make strides along those lines between this and the "Don't Worry Be Happy ' Ex....Very early days , yet .

While I do agree that MoaG is getting to be a popular choice, I'm excited to see the cute Sayuri that Mirai will be, after Yukari's elegant Sayuri and Miki's sultry one. :)

Re: 2010-2011 Season Programs! All Disciplines

As much as the context of MOG makes me uncomfortable, I just love the soundtrack, and Yukari's interpretation was truly outstanding. I don't expect that level of maturity from Mirai, and of course MOG will be a significant departure from her usual personality--which intrigues me. Personally, this will be one of the most anticipated programs this year.

Nonetheless, I have to admit Asian girls skating to MOG or Miss Saigon is all kinds of uncomfortable.

Yukari's interpretation of MoaG is by far the best we've seen up until now. Remember when Carolina Kostner tried to skate to that music in her LP the same season wearing a pink flamingo costume? LOL

Re: 2010-2011 Season Programs! All Disciplines

Carolina's rendition pales in comparison to Yukari's, but I actually thought it was far superior to Miki and Bebe's efforts.

Re: 2010-2011 Season Programs! All Disciplines

I loved Yukari's Exhibition version(with the umbrella) and her competition program of MOAG. Others were good, but her programs were gorgeous.

I think Mirai will be fabulous in both of her programs :)

I don't know why people post things like that. Seems so pointlessly mean-spirited. :sheesh:

For what it's worth, I am looking forward to Mirai's take on this, and I really enjoyed both Caro and Yukari's versions (Miki not as much, the Chairman's waltz is a bit slow for a full program, although her dress design I thought was cool).

ROTFL.

I can picture Mirai on twitter now--Yes, I used Carmen and MOG back to back "goldenskate lady", so get it over it! LOL. :p

Mirai, if you're reading this, I still love your skating!

Why? Just because Sayiri was sold to a Geshia hous does not mean that the music cannot tell a great story with beautiful emotion about and a deep, relatable character. nobody seems to gripe about young girls skating to Carmen or the seductive Salome.

Please, that's nothing compared to Germans skating to Schindler's List.

Stereotypes abound. :sheesh:

Actually, I do take REAL issue with Savcheneko/Szolkowy's program to Schindler's List - it was boring as ****.

It's jmo, portraying a bloodthirsty biblical exotic dancer is for some twisted reason more comfortable than interpreting a geisha who had her sense of identity maimed and tamed at the age of freaking NINE to suit the desire of perverted cheating ********. But as I said in my previous post, I still appreciate the beautiful score that lends itself to interpretation of deep range of emotion. I just don't see Sayuri as a relatable character but a victim suffering from twisted stokholm syndrome. If I were to run into chairman Iwamura after I became a geisha, I would have him freaking gelded not fall in love with him.

Erm, I'm not so sure why I'm in angry feminist mood today. LOL

Memoirs of a Geisha is a stupid, bad film.

However, it's silly to say any piece of music must have a specific meaning.
