I kind of find this rude but anyway. The hotel I mentioned was not a hostel, Aerostar has been the official hotel of RF the last years, not just now , so it obviously meets their standars. it was not the official at last Worlds held in Russia 2005 but I think neither the arena was the same then. It is the same that holds all the figure skating events and Rf proposed now for worlds 2011, thats why I mentioned it, and it is a 4 star hotel. The hotels also near Hippodrome are 4 star hotels, I mentioned them because the fans dont need to stay in the official hotel as far as I know. And in your post you had mentioned how nightmare the travel packets and visa would be for fans. I d love helsinki as well to hold worlds btw and have no idea about their facilities. Anyone who take up the event will do their best under the circumstances.Regarding the hotel prices you quoted, neither of those hotels were ever the official hotels for a World Figure Skating Championship event and their quality would never be chosen as the official hotels anyway and are not a minimum of 4 Stars. I don't think you have a grasp of the type of hotels typically retained by this level of championship. Fans can of course choose wherever they want to stay but those are not the official hotels. Here are some of the likely choices of 4 star hotels that will likely be the official hotels should Moscow land the deal:
I dont grasp how luxurious it should be but I ve been to many competitions and shows in Europe and know by now which are the official hotels that are more or less the same for every city everytime. Novotel, Meridien, Holiday In, Swisshotel, the same. I m sure a scientific research is more reliable than me, I just thought to say what the situation had been there. Maybe Moscow is expensive city to live in, conciderin the rents, first need products, supermarket, hospitals and petrol, i dunno. But for a week trip for a tourist I didnt find it more expensive than London, Oslo or Paris and I mentioned what a tourist usually does in such a trip. Personally i found the trip less expesive than the NY i m plannin now.
Concerning the tickets, I compared them to Torino and Gutenborg Worlds, not Olympics, I doubt in Russia the all event ticket will be around 2000 euros like LA, but we ll wait and see.
Finally, I m not the Lonely Planet, I just refereed to the prices you usually need when you go to figure skating event, metro , taxi, food ,arena stuff, official hotel , tickets and these were the prices in Moscow at least. IF i wanted to buy the Bolshoi building it might have been expensive.
