ISU Where Will Worlds BE (formerly) JAPAN QUAKE FOR WORLDS

Regarding the hotel prices you quoted, neither of those hotels were ever the official hotels for a World Figure Skating Championship event and their quality would never be chosen as the official hotels anyway and are not a minimum of 4 Stars. I don't think you have a grasp of the type of hotels typically retained by this level of championship. Fans can of course choose wherever they want to stay but those are not the official hotels. Here are some of the likely choices of 4 star hotels that will likely be the official hotels should Moscow land the deal:
I kind of find this rude but anyway. The hotel I mentioned was not a hostel, Aerostar has been the official hotel of RF the last years, not just now , so it obviously meets their standars. it was not the official at last Worlds held in Russia 2005 but I think neither the arena was the same then. It is the same that holds all the figure skating events and Rf proposed now for worlds 2011, thats why I mentioned it, and it is a 4 star hotel. The hotels also near Hippodrome are 4 star hotels, I mentioned them because the fans dont need to stay in the official hotel as far as I know. And in your post you had mentioned how nightmare the travel packets and visa would be for fans. I d love helsinki as well to hold worlds btw and have no idea about their facilities. Anyone who take up the event will do their best under the circumstances.
I dont grasp how luxurious it should be but I ve been to many competitions and shows in Europe and know by now which are the official hotels that are more or less the same for every city everytime. Novotel, Meridien, Holiday In, Swisshotel, the same. I m sure a scientific research is more reliable than me, I just thought to say what the situation had been there. Maybe Moscow is expensive city to live in, conciderin the rents, first need products, supermarket, hospitals and petrol, i dunno. But for a week trip for a tourist I didnt find it more expensive than London, Oslo or Paris and I mentioned what a tourist usually does in such a trip. Personally i found the trip less expesive than the NY i m plannin now.
Concerning the tickets, I compared them to Torino and Gutenborg Worlds, not Olympics, I doubt in Russia the all event ticket will be around 2000 euros like LA, but we ll wait and see.

Finally, I m not the Lonely Planet, I just refereed to the prices you usually need when you go to figure skating event, metro , taxi, food ,arena stuff, official hotel , tickets and these were the prices in Moscow at least. IF i wanted to buy the Bolshoi building it might have been expensive.

seniorita, if I were attending Worlds in Moscow, I'd rather hang with you for the good deals. The heck with the Official Hotels.

Wow, seniorita, you seem to travel a lot. I am envious.

As for Worlds, I'll be happy with either Finland or Russia. Frankly, I am feeling grateful that they are offering/bidding. They will be super-busy putting together all the necessary arrangements, and they are taking on a lot of financial risk, I would imagine.

I agree with your other future travel companions, Seniorita! I know from reading your posts all along that you do a lot of traveling to skating events in Europe, because you are often the go-to person for a live report. Your detailed, obviously well-informed post just above makes me hopeful that if Worlds is held in Russia, it might actually be possible for fans to get there and support the skaters. While I like the idea of little Finland swooping in to the rescue, certainly Russia would be a splendid venue, and they'd have a lot of well-informed onlookers even if foreign fans couldn't get there in time.

If you go, take your notebook, Seniorita! We want a full account. If this Worlds actually does get staged, it's going to be the experience of a lifetime. Everyone will be so motivated and emotional...including the audience.

Actually, I am starting to appreciate the method in Cinquanta's madness.

First, by tossing the October option into the hat he blunted in advance the inevitable criticism of whatever decision is forthcoming. (Anything is better than that.)

Second, by forcing the Japanene Federation officially to say that they cannot host Worlds, not now, not then, he has taken the monkey off the ISU's back in terms of possible contract violations.

As for the money that the ISU hoped to make from Japanese television and commercial sponsors, no use crying over spilt milk. Let's start again with a fresh slate and do the best we can.

mathman, you've helped me to understand why speedy has been re-elected unopposed for so many terms.

so, mathman, ultimate diviner of ulterior motives ;p why is speedy giving the other federations so little time to submit their bids, now that japan is out of the picture? what's the angle this time?

Probably because they already have a very good idea who the winning bid is going to be anyway and the bidding process is just a formality? Just a guess.

i think you're on to something! should i start checking for air fares to moscow? ^_^

When ISU Figure Skating Championships 2011 are held in record short preparation time and filled with many poignant moments, Speedy will be proclaimed President Of ISU For Life. Long live Speedy!

Well I hope he live up to his nick for once! :) Always hopeful.

Thats the benefit of being in Brussels, so I m taking advantage of it as much as I can, if I go back to my country even Nice Worlds will be an issue.

Olympia besides me thinking that Russia would be a great host, a boost as fans are very enthusiastic there and the city is beautiful, plus Megasport Arena has this colorful seats that look like caramels:) I do think Helsinki would be,- for me - the best location, it is cheaper, smaller city and no visa, means you can wake up and say, "Hey I ll go to Worlds today". I think every country who is running to host Worlds in such sort notice needs no extra critisism.

So after today's ISU communique, we understand that the JF was holding up the decision retain the championships in Japan. I can understand that. Nagano could have held the championships, and done a beautiful job. However, I do not believe the travel to and from Japan when taken into account, it did not look too good. The decision not to hold the WC in Japan was reached, finally.

The next step, is choosing a site for the WC. We anticipate this Friday and together with firm dates we have the new venue. Bravo!

Just one thing.... I presume TV arrangements are included in the new package, and hopefully the USA will show the championship LIVE on some network.

That's because the proposed venue for the 2011 Worlds in Moscow hadn't been built yet when you were at the 2005 Worlds. This is the proposed venue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megasport_Arena

It can sit 14,000 people. So no, definitely not the same venue and you shouldn't assume they would use the same venue as 2005 either.
Where do you get off stating I should not assume when I did not assume. I merely stated anectodedly what I observed in Moscow, and your flippant remarks do not state why I should know what buildings are being built in Moscow.

I suggest when you are pointing the finger at a poster to be more careful of your words.

How dare you post about your experience and costs that you incurred as a fan seniorita!! I for one will ignore everything you posted since you clearly have no grasp of anything and simply use google to tell me everything i need to know about the trip  and a great big ;)

How did Mr. Cinquanta get the nickname "Speedy"? I'm a recent joiner here, so I'm not up on the history. Thanks.

I believe it's because he was a speed skater, not a figure skater. The ISU covers all skaters, including speed skaters and short-track speed skaters.

I am a big fan of Lonely Planet and Globe Trekker is a favorite show of mine.
Nothing wrong with being a traveler as opposed to a tourist.

Thanks for sharing some of your travel insights.

Now here is a little travel tip for you.
There are two kinds of people in New York, "the quick and the dead." ;)
Keep that in mind and you will have a great time there. :)

seniorita, I love reading your travel adventures, and if you need NYC tips, PM here or at FSU!
