MTM did extremely well and it was a very enjoyable program. D/R had more difficult elements - they put in fancy entries and exits - so they had room for the SBS jump mistake by Eric. This is really close.

SP protocols here:

Thanks to Mao88 for all the updates.

Has Canadian pairs tanked that much that there are so few entries or?

Really close between D&R and MT&M, should be an interesting FS, and wow, L&S are also in a tie with P&M

The competition is fierce. although the entries are few in number. ;)

To quote ‏@AsherHill:

There maybe only 6pair teams this year, but its pure quality from top to bottom. @Kirsten_MT @mhjd_85 @Rad85E @DylanMoscovitch

It will be a very close battle for the gold and bronze!

Extremely impressive program layout for Duhamel/Radford with solo jump and throw in the second half of the program. Great transitions as well.

They have the technical goods now as well as strong choreo from the amazing Julie Marcotte. Just need some polishing. Making the basic skating, postures and lines a little stronger and they will have the whole package. Great team. :)

Moore-Towers/Moscovitch skated clean but the lower bases values cost them the top spot (Lv2 death spiral to D/R's Lv4 and easier jumps).

Lawrence/Swiegers fell on the 3toe and had some negative GOE on some other elements.

Decent effort from Purdy/Marinaro and Jones/Beharry.

All in all looked like a good event on paper, at least. Shame there were only 6 teams.

US Nationals will have more teams, but they will have nothing like as great skating. Quality is more important than quantity.

I really like Duhamel & Radford's short...It's a shame about the stumble on Eric's lutz...but they are the only ones doing a lutz, either, internationally right now, AFAIR.

IIRC, Gainetdinova/Bich (Russian Junior team) are the only other pair team to attempt 3lutz in competition at the moment.

:agree: And the article below (written after the SP) is channeling Doris. ;)

Meghan [sic] Duhamel, Eric Radford hold onto tight lead

Excerpt:
MISSISSAUGA, ONT. - Don't judge quality on quantity.
There are only six senior pairs at the Canadian figure skating nationals, but the top two teams should provide the most nail-biting drama this weekend.

Sorry, I was wrong about the tie.

No worries, blue. I assumed that you meant that Lawrence/Swiegers and Purdy/Marinaro are in a virtual tie -- with a gap of only 0.17. ;)

Has anyone heard what Debbie Wilkes has had to say to explain the small numbers of pairs skaters? She was saying she would cover it later but I don't know if she's done it yet.

I believe they are also the only ones doing 3 Lutz throw. Their program is packed with high technical difficulties.

3LzTh and 3FTh are actually almost the same, since the take-off edge doesn't make a difficulty difference in the throw flip/lutz (they have in fact the same BV, 5.50)
