Jason Brown-Gold In Sochi?

Americans love him and he's making fs popular again. Judges in America gave him huge pcs but its also a fact that the French love him and he won gp medal there so he will appeal to all judges. So is he going to ride this to Olympic gold?

As much as I enjoyed Jason's long program, it can only take him so far. It's very hard to duplicate the excitement, electricity and success from one event to another. I think his performance at Nationals is just that.....something very unique to that time and place. Let us just wish him well in Sochi and his very promising future.

Oh gosh, I hate to say this, but not unless the Japanese men and Chan blow their quads or a few other jumps. I love Jason's skating, but I think the code is too quad-dependent for it to win.

I feel like Jason is the antidote to the criticisms of Evan's quad-less win, though. Jason has everything but the quad. If it was four years ago, he'd have been a potential frontrunner.

I doubt it because there are so many amazing skaters ahead of him, and he doesn't have quads yet, but he sure will be fun to watch! And, as you point out, he will be a gift to U.S. skating in the next few years, maybe (it is hoped) attracting new fans to the sport.

He moved my entire family in the living room back at 2011 Nationals, he moved us again numerous times including the recent US Champs.

I think he will have INFINITY numberous electrifying performances to come

Chan and Hanyu where both way ahead of him in Bompard. Not to mention that Brown skated a lights out free skate at nationals and he still didn't win. He'll be lucky to get an individual medal at all - a gold would require a splatterfest. If Jason can get his difficulty up in the next few years he could become a force to reckon with, but I don't think he's quite arrived yet as a major player.

I seriously doubt he's going to be anywhere near the podium. If he skates like he did at Nats and a few other guys have bad days, top ten is an amazing result for him. I can almost see his KnC reactions already.

I love Jason's skating and it's renewed my love of the sport. I don't appreciate anything about Max's skating other than respecting his athletic ability in his jumps. therein lies the difference between a performer and a jumper. Jason is so much more of a performer than Hanyu but he isn't throwing the quads yet. I still think Patrick Chan has the edge this year on everyone but if you were at TD Gardens and experienced Jason's free skate you would know that anything is possible. The crowd was electrified. It was a magical moment. He's comfortable in his own skin and confident in his skating. I predict a top 10. Skating isn't just about quads as Evan Lysacek proved in Vancouver.

Don't ever count Jason out!

He's awesome, but I don't think he's going to win the gold without a quad. He doesn't have the mileage of Lysacek and the scoring system has been tweaked to give more weight to the quad since then, anyhow. Hopefully this doesn't happen, but he may fall victim to first-Olympics nerves, too.

No, I don't. And, actually, I don't want that pressure for him at this Olympics at all. I hope that he will go to Sochi, enjoy the experience as I know he can, skate the heck out of those programs, give joy to numerous people and get many, many new fans - for himself and for figure skating.

But in 2018, however... Well, then it will be another matter entirely... When he will be armed with a quad as well (I've complete confidence in him getting the quad) - watch out! And his experience from this year's Olympics will stand him in great stead - for when there will be pressure and expectation for him to win a medal. And yes - why not gold

I know what people are saying about quads and its virtually in every post that you need one but with men doing quads in Sps and lps in us nationals brown was 4 points from winning us nationals and won the fs. He did one 1 and one 3/4 3a in his fs against men who did 2 quads and 2 3a. Brown has shown all in his career and a every point in it beating men with harder jumps because at almost every single competion he gets the best pcs and absolutely maximizes points on spins and steps and non 3a triples. There would need to be mistakes and maybe a lot of them but there's never been a competiton that Brown didn't win or come close to winning where lots of men had harder jumps and that's why he can win or medal in Sochi. Quads aren't worth that much more than they used to be and why he can win us nationals free skates and jr worlds free skates and jrgpf free skates.

I love Jason's skating he puts a smile one my face every time he sets foot on that ice and he's an amazing performer and I love him but I don't think he'll medal at Sochi but I do hope he enjoys his experience and skates well, yes Jason is a better performer than most of the men except Daisuke Takahashi but he doesn't have a quad yet and it's hard to medal without a quad but once he gets a quad later on after Sochi then he will be one of the major contenders in 2018!

I dont think this is Jason's year to medal. When heis up agai st the big guns you really do need the quadruple jumps in both programs.

However, the influence he has on the audience will definitely benefit him and cause the judges to mark his PCS more generously. Also, he is one of the skaters who will be there when others above him fail and crumble.

For him this year, a place firmly established in the top 10 will be the best outcome. It is best if his aim at Sochi is to gain experience and have fun because if he has that mindset, he will perform with the same energy as he did in Boston.

Its great to see that the US is seeing how deep their talent pool is in figure skating.

Peter liebers of Germany without doing a quad and virtually no goe on any element and low pcs was 12th in the fs at 2013 worlds. Brown has always gotten great Pcs and huge goe on spins and steps. Top 10 for brown is completely guaranteed. Liebers was 11th! Brown is so superior to liebers. So from that point it's all about how close he can get to gold and its very possible.

Goodness no. He just doesn't have the tech, and of course Chan and Hanyu have huge cushions already. Does he have the possibility of a top ten finish? Absolutely! Could he make the top five? Light up the arena again and he just might. But to medal...that's a bit of a stretch. Even for him.

PCS will probably help him with a top 10 finish- heck, maybe even top 5. However, if these men are on (as in, real on!) Hanyu, Chan, Kovtun, Machida, Fernandez and even grandpa Dai- no way.
