2014 Olympics Mens Free Skate

Well that wasn't Jason's best performance, but he's going to Worlds, so he still has one more chance to put in a season's (personal) best performance!

I'm thrilled for "Tennis!" First bronze for Kazakhstan! I am never underestimating D10 EVER AGAIN.

Is that really definite? Reports coming out today are saying Jeremy/Yuka haven't shut down going to Worlds just yet...oh how I wish he'd bow out gracefully after the Olympics. He had a great free skate, one to remember after a roller coaster career, he doesn't need to "prove" anything more, imo.

Question - if Jason doesn't go to Worlds is he still eligible for Junior Worlds? Oh how I'd hate for this to be Jason's last performance of Riverdance...I so desperately want him to end this season on a high note like he deserves....still proud of him though :)

So looking at the protocals on the Sochi...did not count Jason's last spin either? That is what it looks like. Ugh...

The total elements shown only adds up to 63.59. Wondering if the software cannot handle the extra row.

Disgusted with the scoring. And it was like the tech panel just vented their spleen on Jason. Throwing out the 3Lo because of the second double Axel with the three turn before it? BULL. ABSOLUTE BULL.

No, they voided the 3Lo because Jason was going for the 2A, aborted the attempt, but it took up a jumping pass. Then he again went for the 2A and landed it, taking up another jumping pass. By the 3Lo, he had used up all of his jumping passes and thus the 3Lo didn't count.

In what way did the tech content go way up? Because they've been doing quads for years. Is it because they're trying 2 or 3 quads, or because they have to do so many more transitions?

Anyway, it was not good. I agree with the judge's placements (unfortunately, I missed the beginning of Dennis Ten, but what I saw was good), but that was one of the worst competitions I have ever seen. Hope 2018 is better and you're right.

It's not just the quads. Add the quads TO EVERYTHING ELSE. And it isn't like the last cycle where much fewer men were doing quads on a regular basis. Like we just saw with Jason, a quad is now ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY to be competitive at the highest level. That's the difference for me from the last quad--the necessity, and then combining everything together.

Added up the elements that showed up and only got 63.59. it's missing 4.5 which seems about right for a spin. I think they just didn't program enough rows.

The official scores have a 3loop listed instead of a spin for the last element. The NBC streaming commentators talked about it but I didn't catch enough to understand.

What a brutal competition it was. Everyone falling to pressure. I feel for the skaters tonite. Night folks.

Missed the first 69 pages of posts so this probably has been said already: I thought Hanyu and Chan were both majorly overmarked but it didn't matter since no one else was close to them. Ten definitely deserved the bronze. On balance this was perhaps the worst skated LP at the Oly's I've ever seen.

Guuuuuuuuuuuys the final spin counted. It's just missing because of display issues.

The competition was full of mistakes. I'm happy only with the result. Yuzuru gold medalist and bronze for Denis Ten.

lol damn did anyone see joannie rochette's tweet? it was in french, but she basically said: he had the gold on a silver platter and he took the platter

kinda rude...his silver platter is still better than your pity bronze

The Sochi2014 scores just don't have enough rows to display it. The ISU protocols have it.

Thanks! I couldn't access the ISU protocals. That sucks about the 3Lo -- that's 5 points....would have gotten him 157 and put him into 8th.

Oh well.

It had nothing to do with the the upping of tech content, and everything to do with the system rewarding sloppiness if you're doing quads. It would rather you fully rotate and fall then double jumps. Everything in this system depends on judges who score anonymously, and tech callers who don't seem to call things fairly and seem to have too much power.

It also has to do with the skaters who are out there. Chan is notorious for under-performing and getting held up. Hanyu has stamina issues. Fernandez has been up and down all year. Takahashi is in the sunset of his career. Jason was green and it showed, he was way nervous out there, and was slow. There was no one who has EVER taken hold of a whole season. Chan fell his way to three world championships. Hanyu has nearly ALWAYS fallen on that 4S in competition, and was only doing it to fully rotate and get the points.

We may rip on Plushenko, but he KNOWS how to skate under pressure.
