2014 Olympics Ladies Short Program

She booed her marks in the SP in 2002. And yes she is full of ego and narcissistic. "When I am on the podium and I hear the national anthem played.." She was a good consistent skater that had lyrical movements but little jumps and mediocre spins. She always looked like she was on skates though instead of flowing across the ice. JMO>

Oh wow. I was wondering if we could get through an Olympics without mentioning her name. Off topic question: During the technical program at the 2002 Olympics...What exactly went wrong with her flip? The toe slipped out right? Did Scott mean her vaulting toe?

I heard if you say her name three times in a thread she appears to steal your favorite girl's gold medal away.

http://www.nbcolympics.com/ - LOL I think it's funny they let Yuna have that coy smile while the rest look like they are working their asses off, lol.

No worries. Just that people wish she doesn't medal at all. Personally, any combo of Yuna-Julia-Mao-Carolina will be great with a side of a great skate from Akiko.

She already has a gold medal. I'd rather the other skaters I like have that honor. Her just skating just does nothing for me. I prefer good carriage, line, and perfect spin positions. Not to mention the loop is probably my favorite jump and she doesn't do one. If Mao doesn't win gold I'd rather her not crowd the podium either when people like Caro and Julia could get medals instead since Moa has a medal already herself. In reality, I think Yuna will defend and I think Mao will make mistakes. I think Caro will also make mistakes and ruin her chances to make the podium. Less difficulty means she's gotta max all she can and I'm not sure she can do it. Julia could do well but I think the attention is starting to spook her and that might cause some problems.

That explains a lot! I bet she plotted the whole knee wacking thing so that she could go to the Olympics! AHA! Had she gone in 94. and 2006 she would have had more medals to add to her vast collection.

What time does it come on in The US? I am in central time. That NBC website is confusing.

10 AM EST so 9 Central. Tip: Go to the Sochi results linked in the first post of the thread. At the top next to the start time where it says "Time zone: Sochi time" click on "Sochi time" and it should change to your timezone.

How is that? They will just hand her gold just because she is the reigning champion? Should the other ladies just withdraw? Come on now. Yuna is awesome and has the best jumps in the competition but there are other ladies doing harder elements with better spins.

If you know anything about Yuna and her practices before events--she's always like that. Very stoic and emotionless. Some commentators even describe her as a machine during practice. She never shows her full potential. That all comes out during the actual event.

And although Yuna's spins aren't as flexible or fast, she still reaches the requirement for Level 4 spins.

Kims perfection in practice means nothing. She will skate cleanly and place 3rd after the SP. Then her mental strength will be tested in a serious way. Can she receive super generous GOE to make up for the low base value? I doubt that. Perfection of inferior programs won't guarantee the gold.

Michelle Kwan is apparently working as an analyst for FOX in Sochi. They were previewing the ladies event, and then at the end the host asked her about her Olympics and if she wished she were skating at these Olympics. And then I remembered, every time I have ever seen her as an analyst on tv in recent years, the various hosts always asked her the same question. Since the question always comes off forced, I'm assuming she specifically prods them to ask her about it beforehand. Which seems bizarre and narcissistic to me.

No, your out-of-the-blue speculation is quite wrong. In fact, Michelle is the opposite of bizarre and narcissistic. That would be down-to-earth and kindhearted.

How do I know this? It is just one of the many things I happen to know.

Kostner is not going to score a 70. She doesn't have the content and she makes way too many mistakes. I don't know why so many people think Kostner and Akiko are in contention for the gold let alone the podium.

Kostner scored a 69 at Europeans, and a 70.XX at the team event for the SP. She may have less content but when she hits it, she gets great GOE and she always gets good component scores. At Europeans she received 71 PCS in the LP. Her technical may be lower (she had 55.XX TES) but the bronze medal is within her reach and if mistakes are made, there's no reason she couldn't go higher. We'll have a better idea after the SP, but assuming it's Yuna, Yulia, Mao, Carolina, Adelina, Gracie, Akiko(or any order) any of those seven could possiblywin. That's assuming they're all somewhere between 67 and 73.

After Michelle Kwan's death stare when Sasha beat her in the SP at 2000 Nats, her true colors were all there to me.

C'mon man. There are 29 other female skaters who waited 4 year to skate on an Olympic ice. Show them some love by equally distributing your disdainful comments.

Kim was perfect in practice during Worlds 2013 and look, she won. I am sure if she's clean, she'll be first.

This is NMURA's last chance to throw some heaping scorn at Kim, don't spoil the fun. ;)

These threads for ladies' competition always get so bloated before the competition has even started!
