2014 Olympics Ladies Short Program

I begin to think that Adelina Sotnikova can be the new Olympic champion and the new queen of the ice

The last week has shown us that all she needs is to be clean, And it's hers.

If it has to be her than i hope she goes out and REALLY earns it,
Either way the Russians were too greedy
The crowd was atrocious
And these Olympics were a joke

Holding out for a great competition tomorrow to at least bring this to an exciting end

I liked Adelina's program...but come on...she was not even close to Yuna or Carolina...even the commentators here were very surprised by her scores, they said she should be around 70 before her scores being announced...

I was surprised as well, but I think the scores at the Olympics are always very high for clean programs plus she has a bit of a home field advantage.

Anyway, I'm devastated for Mao. Devastated. I still can't believe it. :(

I said in another thread that if Julia skated clean and so did the other top skaters she would be kept close in terms of PCS but if she faltered and Adelina was clean Adelina would be the backup. And it happened.
I think the placements were right except that as others have said Caro should have been second. I actually thought Caro was a bit slow today but she was ethereal. I think Adelina was really on top of her game but her PCS are not in the same league as Yuna and Caro yet. As I said, she is being kept very close to them so that is either of them falters even a bit and she is clean she gets gold. She may get anyway with the crowd (mob) behind her. I think Julia, Gracie and Ashley will come out on fire tomorrow because they have nothing to lose and everything to gain. But who knows maybe Paulina will beat them all : )

Finally I hope Mao skates at World's goes clean twice and wins.

I agree. OMG....I can't wait until the Olympics are over. It's hard feeling this way being a fan of so many Russian skaters but I didn't think it would be like this.

Combined with the obvious, questionable scoring, these Games really leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Sotnikova has been scoring very high for short programs all season long. And she got all level fours, Kim and Kostner didn't. Once can talk about the PCS, but the technical scores? I wonder how many are actually looking at the protocols there.

I don't understand why so many people are disliking Yuna's program. They are just going after anything they can criticize out of Yuna's skating-why hate her so much? I thought Send in the clowns was beautiful in its own way. She was a bit nervous though-she said in interview that she suddenly got nervous before doing her short program and she couldn't move her legs well. Anyway, I'm so happy for her that she still managed to skate cleanly-those jumps were simply amazing :) Also, as a Yuna fan, IMO she was the best, no matter what others think lol
Adelina was great too, but really, if she deserves 74, Yuna should've gotten at least 76 or something. Carolina was brilliant, I was hoping for her to have great performance and I hope she performs well with her bolero too tomorrow(I love that program lol)
Well, and a bit shocked at Julia and Mao.... I guess Julia can do well in free tomorrow. But Mao....though I'm a Yuna fan, I was really shocked, I liked her sp this season too, and I feel so sorry for her... Wish she can have her free skate tomorrow without any regrets

With so many falls, was their a problem with the ice.....the reason I am asking this is because with the hockey, the players found the ice really soft and not a crisp ice for skating. I know that they are skating at different venues but it could be a possibility. Food for thought. My heart goes to the top skaters that faltered after all their hard work.....let's hope they do better in the long program. It's not a true win if you win by the best failing...it's luck.

none actually
just good at whining

You can't read protocols that way because judges are not listed same for every skater. Kim's 1st judge could be Sotnikova's 8th judge
I believe the judge numberings are scrambled only once, then carried out through the event. Anyone confirm?

Since Octavio is Italian and Kostner is now in contention for a medal, possibly even the gold (but most likely the silver vs Sotnikova) I wouldnt be surprised if he does just that and threatens all the judges who are scoring the womens LP to be very careful in how they score Sotnikova if they ever want to judge again. Usually such corruption and pro his own country which he has done in the past (eg- the threats he made to judges after the 2001 GPF when World Champs Fusar Poli & Margalio were far off their best and came 4th) would annoy me, but in this case it would be justified and might even be needed.

ITA!!! Speedy time to reign in the judges' scores and judge what they see.

No, we do 't hate her. Just say we don't feel much tension in her program like we sued to, maybe she's holding herself back because of injuries, but it's just the way we feel. It's not hate, damn it. People have different taste. That's all.

Forgive me if this has already been posted, but here is the Free Skate order. I think Yuna has the advantage here by skating last. Poor Gracie has to skate after Adelina. Will be an interesting top 6 Hunger Games!

She was! But still, her jumps should not have received higher GOEs than Kim's and her PCS should not be almost as high as Kostner's.

Kostner was a fully point ahead I believe on PCS. As for the jumps, I don't know if anyone in that competition jumps higher than Sotnikova. I think she absolutely deserved huge GOE on her jumps.

Combined with the obvious, questionable scoring, these Games really leave a bad taste in my mouth.

I'm glad Radionova isn't at the Olympics so people won't develop a grudge against her. I know it's not Julia and Adelina's faults and I still really like Julia, but it's hard to separate the judging from the skaters themselves.

I just want clean programs for Yuna and Caro.As I said,I liked Adelina's program...but surly it wasn't a 74 points skating...
