The Judging Controversy Thread

Nevermind. I just saw it.

In addition to Yuna, Adelina was scored higher than Mao Asada and her jumps and Carolina and her artistry. Three very distinct and yet fantastic skaters who are world-class, and world-dominating, who have different strengths and weaknesses. And in one sweep of a program that wasn't even technically perfect, she defeated everyone universally. All of them. She's basically like God. She's that good, huh?

Quite a few people would disagree with you, but fine, you're entitled to your take.

I'm with you, Vegarin. It is absolutely inconceivable that Adelina Sotnikova beat _Mao Asada_ for technical content.

No one, in reality, can match Mao Asada when she hits her triple axel, which she did.

It is a travesty that Ms. Asada was not given the scores *she* deserved, considering the excessively inflated scores Ms. Sotnikova did receive for far lesser content. (Asada did 8 triples, Sotnikova seven, but among Asada's 8 was the triple axel.)

She scored 149.95 ... the world record is 150.06 with 1 entire more element. She botched a jump, had junior choreography, and nowhere near world record level skating skills...and yet she scored 0.11 from the world record. With one less element. That immediately should set off every red flag alone that the judging was corrupt.

I disregard records and "almost" records. I have in the ice dancing and I do here. If the first place finisher performed the best then I am satisfied.

Then you go and look at the protocols....9.75 ... 9.75 ... this is a girl who scored higher PCS than Mao Asada and Carolina Kostner, and essentially tied Kim. These are the components meant to score artistry and skating skills, where Adelina is not in the top 3 in the world on this night or any other night ... and yet the results were clearly fixed and rigged to anyone with two eyes and a scoresheet in front of them.

I think Adelina was wonderfully expressive and I loved her interpretation. She was passionate and connected the elements to her music. She was not inferior to her rivals. Skewer and mock my opinion to your heart's content.

You say it's all about the jumps ... well then what about Kostner? Did she not do 7 triples? What about Asada? Did she not do 8 with a triple axle? And Sotnikova beat them both by 7.

Where did I say it's all about the jumps? *curiousface* I thought Adelina was outstanding in all areas.

You look at everything across the entire scorecard and it's obvious that the CoP was completely disregarded, and the "storyline" being used by the corridor is "7 triples vs. 6 triples". The short program difficulty...disregarded. All of the components marks, grade of executions, all of the other elements, everything ... disregarded. The entire scoring system ... disregarded. And then "7 vs. 6" shoved down everyone's throat by the Corridor Propaganda Machine.

Eh? The entire scoring system wasn't disregarded. In fact it was the scoring system that created this opportunity for Adelina to win the way she did.

We have our own eyes. We don't need Scott Hamilton, or Brian Boitano to tell us what to think. We didn't need them to have 2 million people sign a petition. That didn't happen because Scott Hamilton and NBC told us to do it. It happened because we all have our own eyes and we all know EXACTLY what happened.

And likewise I don't need Lipinski or Wylie from NBC to validate my opinions either. But hey you got me with the 2million. You win. Sadly, it's true. If I tried to start a petition to endorse Adelina's win I don't think I could round up 2million.

If the idiots on NBC and other news outlets want to continue to be completely out of touch. Then fine, as I said, have a good day. Live with yourself, if you can.

Yeah living with myself? How do I do it? Thanks for your concern though I think I'll somehow manage.

In the meantime, we will continue to demand justice be done.

Well you're certainly passionate I'll give you that. And I'll never stand in the way of people fighting for what they believe in no matter the issue or whether or not I agree with them.

South Korea has officially filed the formal protest letter with IOC.

Well, so it's a realistic possibility that medal chances of Russian skaters come Pyeongyang Olympics are doomed, because the Korean Fed cannot be expected to behave pristinely either.

Of course, it's probably only going to be Sotnikova from the present crop of Russian ladies that will keep their jumps come full adulthood, and since Adelina so benefitted from rigged judging this time around, well, I still feel sorry for her because she didn't create the situation, but I still see it as a time of reckoning for her, I guess. If I were her, I really would retire ASAP.

Rigged judging really is killing the sports.

Let's say Asada skated a 70+ SP. And her LP was what she did yesterday which was magnificent. She wouldn't have won. That's suspect judging if I ever see it.

I hear you. Mao landed 3A and everything else pretty much flawlessly and yet that wasn't good enough. I mean, she nailed the mythical 8 triple program and was not even properly awarded for it. Hopefully she would be able to nail it again at the Worlds.

Either way, Mao's comeback in Sochi will be the most awesome come back story for quite some time. I think you should be proud. :)

It actually would've been epic to see her do this in last year's worlds. Both Mao and Yuna at their best, and actually scored the way they deserve to get. And Caro almost flawless. It would've been just lovely.

Ugh I wish IOC and ISU would just investigate these issues of over-scoring/underscoring and conflicts of interest already. If there's nothing to hide, wouldn't it not matter?

I wonder what will happen in pyeongchang 2018..how will the fan/crowd react to all russian skater..i bet they all want to throw kimchi at them..well ..i might just go to korea and join in...sorry not sorry.:p

Having the Pyeongchang audience reacting to all Russian skaters negatively would be unfair. I don't know if Radionova will be on that Olympic team in 4 years, but she's done nothing wrong and had zero opportunity to get home overscoring at a big event, and as a fan of Mao I feel a little sorry for her missing the Olympics due to the age rule. I haven't seen much of the juniors below Radionova but I will certainly root for her at least.

To bad Korea or Japan doesn't have a Hockey Team, Canada would be next on the list for fixing the hockey scores. Lol
After this fiasco with figure skating, I doubt that sport will be in the next olympics. Too much controversy in the judging system to make it fair for skaters. All skaters, including the skaters that skated in the first two groups, how they were underscored. Fairness in a sport that has been corrupted for years. If a sport cannot be judged fairly, it should not be in the Olympics.

Lowest scoring judge for Sotnikova is No 8. (according to rules his/her scores are not counting) Even his/her scores are overall 70.8 PCS. They awarded second gold in 2002 because without French judge, scores are tied. So If IOC discard Russia/Ukranie judges like they did in 2002, I don't think that going to be enough for Kim.

Now Asada has an 8 triple program? If Asada had been above Yuna and there were no Russian girls, you would be saying how Asada's jumps should be downgraded, etc. I could not understand Sotnikova's PCS either, but you acting like you're a Mao fan all of a sudden is so disingenuous. You have bashed Mao so much on this forum, I specifically remember you saying Mao and her fans are clinging to the past, like old people clinging to their glory days, they haven't evolved, Yuna has left Mao in the dust, and so on. It's so disingenuous that you're now using Mao to make arguments that are convenient to you now.
