Gracie Gold | Page 13 | Golden Skate

Gracie Gold

I am walking this line to the best of my ability. As a self admitted Yulia über I try to stay rational and realistic in relation to her standing among the field and her overall ability. It's hard to be objective though I admit. I find myself biting my tongue a lot on that (f)lutz which seems borderline at times but I have to admit its there and obvious at times even. I really don't want people seeing her and thinking Sam-Skawntch is so annoying and have it affect their view of her. :slink:

You know what - I learned in the early years of posting that you can never please everyone. Not everyone will agree with what you say and people will jump to conclusions based on what they see in your posts...over the years I've been called a fan of this skater (when I wasn't), a hater of that skater (when I wasn't), etc. So you just kinda have to roll with the punches...

Another thing I found out is that the only way you can be truly objective is if you don't have a vested interest in the outcome. As soon as you do, you become biased (even if very slightly) because of course you want things to turn out "your way". And when they don't, you're not going to be happy about it, obviously...

But there is a significant difference between being a casual fan and crossing that line to becoming an uberfan (obsessed), where you almost practically eat, sleep, breathe that person. You really have to prevent yourself from hitting that point because once you do, that's it - you've gone off the deep end and it's super hard to recover from it. Once you hit that point, among other things you overlook flaws & red flags...and not to make an example out of SF here, but that's what you're seeing in this thread.

You really have to hold back if you feel yourself reaching that point because it's almost like bending a piece of metal until it breaks - once it snaps, that's it.

Anyone who thinks that Gracie isn't putting in the time on the ice training is crazy Frank wouldn't allow a skater to slack off and Gracie has her eyes on the podium at Worlds. She isn't Mirai who sometimes lacks a certain focus and discipline at times. Gold was well trained and totally focused and ready for Sochi.

At the risk of sounding like SF (!), I think she may actually have a chance at winning - but she MUST skate clean and at least two others need to take themselves out of contention (the ones that can score higher than her).

Otherwise, I think a medal is within reach. Like Nagasu 4 years ago, she cannot get ahead of herself or she'll be doomed. I do hope Gold can hold it together...both her and Wagner...

wow, now with Maggie Q in the red carpet: http://instagram.com/p/ltX9VkrApf/#
Garcie's Hollywood repertoire is building up, maybe next Steven Spielberg, Angelina Jolie ?

probably the most high profile US skater in her career time / generation
has Kwan even achieved this popularity with the hollywood stars like Gracie ?

I was just happy to see that in photos from the premiere, both girls took a departure from the garish lipstick! Well done, ladies ;)

Endorsements really don't make a career. Meissner had some major ones including appearing in a Super Bowl ad. For that matter, Czisny appeared in a Super Bowl ad a few years ago.

As for the movie premiere, there were some non-skater Olympians there as well. And as has been said before, these kinds of invitations have not been unheard of immediately after the Olympics. Anyone remember Sarah Hughes presenting at the Grammys?

^^I try not to. Bless her heart, she just does not have a good speaking voice. :slink:

Yeah, she wanted to go into acting but that fizzled out within a year. All 4 of her acting credits on IMDB are from 2006 and 2007. So basically she rode that small wave of interest post-Torino and once that died down that was it.

I remember seeing Sasha on CSI New York and she did okay. Her part of the storyline involved the murder of a figure skater and they showed Sasha skating (she wasn't the one killed) and then they showed her skating at the end of the episode and it looked like she was inside a snow globe. Kind of reminded me of the snow globes that Hallmark sold of Kristi, Tara, Peggy and Michelle.

Hey, I like Gracie, but comparing her to Michelle in any way shape or form is just crazy talk.

maybe not full fashion model yet
but maybe more commercial / mainstream ads I can see her doing
biotherm, gap, Saks, Victoria Secret teens, hair coloring, etc.

Gracie already has covergirl cosmetics

i like how even though gracie and ashley have the same sponsors and endorsements and essentially get invited to the same hollywood events, ashley is in it for the fame and "money profiteering" and gracie isn't

Yes, I think BOTH are making the most of their 15 minutes. True that Wagner got some talk shows that Gold didn't, for whatever reason - but all the premieres, both Wagner and Gold were invited in some capacity.

I agree. Gracie is definitely pretty, it's a basic pretty. Toothpaste commercial/store catalog pretty...which is no less pretty, but far less remarkable/unique.

Uniquely pretty skaters are Nikol Gosviani, Anna Pogorilaya (totally could be a high fashion model with that face and those lips), Christina Gao, Isadora Williams (first Brazilian figure skater, debuted in Sochi), and Juulia Turkkila...just to name a few.

I could see these girls on the pages of Vogue somewhere...

Fully agree

The hypocrisy! I know right? I love how Ashley stepping onto a red carpet makes her an attention getter but Gracie doing the same thing (although she wasn't even as prolific at the Oscars as Wagner anyways) is her embracing her supposed "Hollywoodness".

And yes, people are deluded if they think Gold can model, when she's average at best. Even that jewelry ad has a weird non-smile thing happening. Gorgeous to watch, and very elegant, but a model? No way.

I like Gracie and don't want to put her down just because she has a fan who grossly overstates her accomplishments and her marketability. She is very pretty but that would mean nothing without her skating. She has done modestly well so far, but she is going to have to do a lot better to come even marginally close to someone like Michelle Kwan. When/if she wins her first World Championship, then we'll talk about her future prospects, if any, for entering the figure skating pantheon.

high fashion models are always pretty interesting looking

i mean i guess i could see gracie in a catalogue for a drug store or something where they always need girls to like put on moisturizer for the camera or have them pose awkwardly with a box of cotton buds. is that what you wanted me to say, sky fly? that gracie is pretty enough to be a rite aid model? BECAUSE THERE I SAID IT

Now that wasn't so hard was it?

Sigh...sky_fly your posts aren't helping Gracie. I like Gracie but your outrageous comments about her abilities and marketability won't win her any fans and basing it from this thread seems to be having the opposite effect that you wanted.

Gracie still has a long way to go to prove herself. Hope she skates really well this upcoming Worlds. Lets move the discussion back to her skating abilities. What do guys think of her chances in reaching the podium if she skates 2 clean programs?

as I said, Gracie's Beauty is only a bonus to her skating abilities, not her fault some are intimidated by it
her skating ability is unquestionable, speed, power , huge jumps, 3-3 and fast spins needed to dominate the CoP

given a fair chance without home crowd inflation
Gracie should have a shot of a gold medal, her max LP score is 140+ and SP she is capable of a 70+ SP if done at her best
she already scored 130's in the FS at the Olympic with a fall (non home ice), take note of that

shots for a gold medal should be between Gracie and Mao
but I'll give it to Gracie with better consistentcy records recently
