2014 Worlds - Ladies Short Program

Chances are they are not really skating fans but uber-nationalists.

Agree. With all due respect to Korea and Koreans, I have to say there are quite some Korean ultra nationalists out there, with their blind patriotism.

It's best just to ignore them if you can, although I know that's much easier said than done. As Mrs. P pointed out, they're probably raving nationalists, not real skating fans. Relax and enjoy the competition -- don't let them spoil it for you!
Yeah, thank you for your kind words. I was kind of overreacted. Beside, there are lots if supporting comments as well. and I know lots of them are from Korean fans as well. I shouldn't let myself be carried away that much.:)

I'm happy that Yu-na's WR was broken by Mao, who has been her long-time rival. If it were Sotnikova who broke the record, I would have gone nuts.

The rivalry between Yuna and Mao was/is the true rivalry with sport spirit.:)

If Mao performs the same quality LP as in Sochi, I am sure she will break another Yuna's WR and she should have got the WR in Sochi anyway.

Yes, and both of them are always classy. :)
Unlike Yagudin and Plushy. Their rivalry was awesome to watch on ice but when it comes to off-ice, both have bad mouths. Even their coaches joined the rivalry. That time was epic.

No one brings the drama like the Russians do.

Bad talk about Mao' SP on ISU's facebook fanpage, too. He said Mao's spin is ugly and boring and nothing new etc. I just happen to see it. Actually I can understand if Kim and Mao both competed in this event. Mao's fans also have some crazy attitude, too. But... It's just so inappropriate because Kim retire already, Mao's achievement here means nothing to Kim's legacy at all. Actually I was surprised by the haters on facebook today.

So your friend is a skater. Does he have a 3A? We know Mao does -- and she busted out a great one last night! And she's a woman. Could we be talking gender jealousy here? Just sayin'....

just rewatched again and Gracie was underscored
should have scored in 76+

Are you kidding? Her loop was messy. And her components should be nowhere near Mao, Carolina, and Akiko's. Even her 3Z-3T while landed and better than it was in her Sochi SP, wasn't her best effort. How should that equal a personal best over 75?

I've always said that Mao and Yuna's rivalry was one of the best things to happen to ladies figure skating, if anyone should break Yuna's WR, it should be Mao

And her Sochi FS was underscored, her PCs should have been closer to Yuna's, Adelina's and Carolina's.

Am I the only one who thinks that Gracie's jumps are getting lower and smaller every competition? (The jumps in the short were especially low, her 2a and 3lo in particular). Her consistency has improved a lot, though.

Was there really a Mao-Yuna rivalry, or is that mainly media hype? I feel like after from 2009 onwards, Kim pretty much dominated the field with double-digit leads.

Maybe, he idol Hanyu, though. He just couldn't admit that Mao is worthy of the world record, due to his devotion for Kim.
Let's just forget it. I don't wanna spoil everyone mood. So sorry for bringing up some negative comments to this thread. I know for sure lots of Korean figure skating fans are happy for Mao today. :yay:

Oh, please. Yuna retired and this thread is about WC2014. Why would you want to talk about Kim here?

Yes, Kim dominated after 2009, but I would still consider them rivals. Without Asada's presence, Kim would not have become the skater she is today (Even she herself admitted it). Same for Asada. They helped each other become better, and that is why I think figure skating has reached the high level it is today. :)

I met Adelina at the host hotel of Skate America a few years back. She willingly autographed my program. She is indeed a very sweet girl and I'm sorry that she's getting attacked. The judging was not her fault by any means.

She has always struck me as very nice. I'm not a fan of her skating but she seems pretty nice on a personal level.

I noticed her air position tilting when her jumps are big, so maybe she's trying to correct the techniques. Whether her jumps will stay smaller after that, I don't know. But yah her jumps were smaller, I've just watched. She really grew up as a performer in a year's time, though. She looked quite wooden in last year's WC.

Yes, I thought the same. With the tilted axis, especially the 3lz, her jumps are huge. Maybe Carol holds her back too much?

Really hoping Akiko can pull it up in the free and land on the podium, and that the top two stays the same. Also hoping the US women can keep their three spots.

I noticed too. But I don't think her consistency improved a lot. Sure she is not falling but her landing in the olympic sp not good too. I did think then maybe she feel the nerves. But same thing happened in here too. Something is not working with her technique
