I heard that he wanted to represent both Romeo and Juliet for this program, that's why one side is more feminine than the other. But I could be wrong.

yay, we've come full circleI'm having such a hard time keeping up with this forum though. First off everyone was talking about his costumes and next season programs, then about Orser, Plushy and Tarasova, and finally back to his costumes![]()

I feel like I can't really voice my opinion on the technical stuff because I still know very little about it (doesn't keep me from having an opinion but I'd rather not sound like a complete idiot so I'll keep my trap shut). But I guess he still has to work on his stamina. It seems like, at some point (especially during the FS) he loses strength and then his movements sometimes get kinda sloppy (which is understandable, I guess). When it comes to music and costumes he seems to have his own mind. I remember Orser saying something along the lines of letting the athlete take control over decisions because if it's their idea then they work harder for it and everything. So, as long as he doesn't come up with something complete out of touch with reality, I guess it's best to let him do his thing. Within reason. The choice of music and costume is a very subjective topic, so I'm not really a big fan of "telling people what to do" in this regard.Question~
What's one major improvement you would like to see from Yuzuru next season? Better lines and posture? Deeper edges? More consistency in his 4S? A new quad? Or just better music + costumes?
I personally would like to see a further improvement on his basic's. Lines, edges and stamina. Easier said than done of course, but he's already improved heaps with Tracy so I hope she can keep working with him on those.arty:
oh well)I think is this thread that started the rumor, just go back about a week![]()
I heard it from tumblr so I decided to just roll with that.I like that he's feminine too. Well, it could just be a personal preference (my boyfriend actually looks sort of like Yuzu if he was a couple of inches taller with more weight haha) but his femininity was what I found so appealing, especially when it comes to his costumes since he as such a beautifully slim figure with the longest legs I've ever seen on a guy. Every time he stands next to other male skaters, he just stands out. And I think him embracing that whether it be intentionally or unintentionally, is good.
Though I do think it is intentional since he incorporates feminine aspects into his skating (quite proudly, I might say), and Johnny Weir cited that Yuzu has a lot of say in his costumes. I'm not sure the boobskirt was his idea but the gemstone colors on the costume were.
but he's still one of the best-dressed men in my eyes). Yuzuru may be a little too influenced by Johnny Weir right now (who I also love), but he's just 19. I'm excited to see how he develops but I hope he always follows his own heart and doesn't compromise too much.I didn't really mind it either. It's not my favorite, but knowing that it was designed to Yuzuru's specifications, I find it sort of...endearingly tacky? I think he just loves bling and dripping, romantic flowy things and that's his style. With his body type and grace, he is one of the only male skaters that can pull it off. But I think it worked better with the R&J1, White Legend & Etude in D Sharp Minor costumes.
I've been reading all the comments about Plushy and it makes me somewhat sad. I love Plushy and while he is known to be extremely competitive, in general I find him to be very supportive of other skaters (Yagudin & perhaps Kovtun notwithstanding). I've read and watched everything he has said about Yuzu and I'm sure he is flattered that Yuzu looks up to him. But the look on his face in that video from the team event says it all to me....his admiration of Yuzu is 100% genuine.
I've read things like that several times, here and on other sitesOh, is that so?I heard it from tumblr so I decided to just roll with that.
Some say that he's supposed to be Romeo but looks like Juliet and they don't like it. Others say he looks like both and they are not sure if they like it. The next one says, that representing both sides is exactly the point of the program and that's why he's screaming in the middle of the program and then does that little stabbing motion in the end. (I actually like that interpretation best)I heard that he wanted to represent both Romeo and Juliet for this program, that's why one side is more feminine than the other. But I could be wrong.

Oh , let me explain further.
Some think the upper half of his costume with the frill ("boobskirt") represents Juliet and the lower half represents Romeo.
In Shakespeare's play, it was Juliet who stabbed herself, while Romeo drank poison. Actually I blame David Wilson for this as he was the choreographer. But he did try to incorporate the balcony scene in the part after the spin where Yuzuru was looking up and outstretching his hand like Romeo yearning for Juliet who was at the balcony.
, and drinking doesn´t look as dramatic as the motion of stabbing. I actually like that part a lot.
hwell: I think he is actually telling the story, more than playing a character. That´s MHO.
I guess is very difficult to pretend to drink poison while skating, and drinking doesn´t look as dramatic as the motion of stabbing. I actually like that part a lot.
In the other hand, in R&J 1.0 Yuzuru also does a motion of stabbing after fis final spin just before his final pose.
No ofense but I think that thinking that he wanted to play Juliet just because of the motion if a little too literal.hwell: I think he is actually telling the story, more than playing a character. That´s MHO.

I agree that Yuzuru's costumes reflect his taste; after all he's the one wearing and skating in them. It was Yuzuru (through Nanami) who first approached Johnny Weir to design for him, and the R &J2 costume is actually Yuzuru's third Weir designed costume. Yuzuru takes ownership of everything to do with his skating (the move to Canada apparently has inputs from him, he insisted on including the 4S in his LP when Brian Orser suggested leaving it off), and I think his costumes are no different. I remember Kurt Browning saying he sees Yuzuru in his R & J 2 costume and that it just doesn't say Olympic champion to him (Kurt). Well, Yuzuru proved him wrong there. (Still love Kurt nonetheless, and I hope someone uploads the CBC commentary on Yuzuru's 2014 Worlds LP to YouTube soon)
Re Evegeny Plushenko and Yuzuru, I give the former props for spotting Yuzuru's talent early on and thinking of him as a possible Olympic champion in Sochi. I have read a translation of an an excerpt from Yuzuru's autobiography where Yuzuru wrote that Plushenko was even scolded by his wife for giving Yuzuru tips about jumping when they were together in ice shows.
Plushenko's smile in the video elicited different reactions from people, from "creepy" to "genuine." For me it was because Plushenko probably experienced a mixture of emotions at seeing that SP skate of Yuzuru; acknowledgment of how good Yuzuru is and also, as Plushenko is a fierce competitor, chagrin that Yuzuru has probably beaten him in front of his home crowd into second place. Plushenko himself called it years ago when Yuzuru told him he (Yuzuru) wants to compete with him: he said when Yuzuru has beaten him, the era of Plushenko would have ended and Yuzuru's would have began. And so it did come to pass. The man is also a prophet.![]()
reminds me of a David Lynch interview where he's told several things people have read into his movies and half the time he's like "no, I didn't wanna say that but that's an extremely cool idea"It (the stabbing motion) can be justified under artistic license
I guess with art there's always room for interpretationI think you can get a full translation here but you need to verify that you actually own the bookAnyway, I would love to read Yuzu's book but it sounds like only portions have been translated into English by fans...correct me if I'm wrong.
That is so interesting about Plushenko's wife...I try to stay neutral about her, but if that's true then it makes me think that the image many paint of her is not so far from the truth. Anyway, I would love to read Yuzu's book but it sounds like only portions have been translated into English by fans...correct me if I'm wrong.
And yes...I think Plushy felt a mix of emotions for sure. He loves to skate and compete, he knew his time was up (well, maybe not realizing then just how soon), and he was watching the future of the sport with admiration but also sadness. I don't know if he should ever be a coach to Yuzu; as much as they respect each other, it might not work out so well for all kinds of logistical reasons. But he can still be a mentor to him in some capacity. I hope.

Although I know skating is top priority for him, if he could try some other sports just for leisure/fun/stress relief, it might help him in other ways: i.e. swimming, tennis, archery etc.
I do hope him could be more outdoors, but no one can be perfect.
