Elena Ilinykh & Nikita Katsalapov Split

That's what disgusts me the most about this entire thing. Elena might have been a drama queen per what I've read, but this is a new low. I feel especially bad for poor Ruslan, who had no part in any of this happening.

We don't know this. Victoria may have her reasons for switching too. I don't see the point of making anyone the bad guy. Nobody's going to drop one partner if they don't have something else lined up. They may have sound reasons for wanting to switch.

Everyone blames Nikita but maybe Elena is more to blame. If she hadn't started the relationship with her coach (and possibly dumped Nikita because of this), maybe they would still be together.

Well, if this was as a result of romantic entanglements, I guess I can see why they're a risky gamble for a skating partnership. Some skating partners avoid them entirely for this reason. If the romance goes bad, the entire partnership can go down the pipes. Sometimes just remaining good friends is a safer option.

Whole season there are rumours that Tkachenko doesn't want to continue, that this is his last season (but nothing was confirmed yet).
Last months there were rumours that Riazanova wants to couple with Guerreiro once again (nothing confirmed as well).

Riazanova wants to skate with Guerreiro again? Well, for Guerreiro, it's a big upgrade from Pushkash. I wish R/T didn't go to Igor these 2 seasons. What a waste. Actually I just wished Igor didn't do their choreo at all.

Alexeeva and Kustarova – mother and daughter training dance teams.
She was ex-partner of Oleg Ovsiannikov before he teamed up with Krylova.

…this is a video from exhibition in 1993, she was good skater, they were second and third at Russian Championhips in 1992-1994, third at Junior World Champs in 1987/88. Then she teamed up with Vazgen Azroyan (who later skated with Grebenkina) and they skated together for one year.

She is a very well-known coach in Russia, she is taken like the best coach of juniors dance teams. She coached Bobrova & Soloviev since they were very young until they left to Zhulin after 2011/12 season. Alexeeva & Kustarova are coaches of many past Junior Medalists or Junior Champions of past years (except I&K):
Junior World Champs: Bobrova & Soloviev in 2007, Monko & Khaliavin in 2011, Sinitsina & Zhiganshin in 2012.
Silver Junior World Medalist in 2014 – Yanovskaya & Mozgov, Bronze Medalists – Riazanova & Guerreiro in 2009.
She also helps to train some weak couples – she is one of coaches of Shtork & Rand for example.

Many people criticise those coaches for bad Bobrova’s posture but it is obvious that Katya is struggling with it even with Zhulin, while Sinitsina and Yanovskaya and partly Monko got rid of those not good forward back position – so it is more problem in Katya’s head than bad coach‘s habit.
Kustarova is also criticised for no having good senior teams, but in case of Sinitsina & Zhiganshin – it is just stupid idea.

Yes, exactly. Kustarova's teams have excellent basic skills. Which probably explains the success of her junior teams, from M/K to S/Z to Y/M etc.. Zhulin's a great technician and his students usually have clean edge quality but M/K got their good skating skills from Kustarova, it was obvious in Juniors. Their students are probably the best at skating on deep edges and maintaining excellent leg line form, especially in footwork. B/S, M/K, S/Z are great at that (and all have excellent toe point ). None of the Michigan coaches teach these qualities anymore (except Krylova, perhaps), which is obvious when looking at some of those students. When I read about skater x and y having had improved their lines or have excellent lines, I always look at the footwork sequences. Holding a deep edge, while also maintaining nice leg line and form is not that important anymore in footwork, and that is a BAD thing. If skater x and y cannot hold deep edges and also maintain leg lines, their lines are not good.

Bobrova's posture got better last year. I like this diagonal step sequence: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aGulyQ3-YQ#t=4m16s
This is the circular step : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aGulyQ3-YQ#t=2m24s

Oh and Bobrova has great toe point

If Nikita and Victoria are together (and that is the most feasible explanation), then it could be that Nikita was jealous or that Victoria was jealous and didn't want him to skate with Elena. But if this is the case, then (as someone pointed out in their vk group) the federation shouldn't sponsor their "honeymoon" in the USA.

Or Vica and Morozov are together :)

Why is he such a liar? During worlds when he was asked about the split he answered "imagine that I am their coach and I do not know anything about it".

I have no idea. I've heard him saying this myself. He also said that I/K are going to start practicing for the next season couple weeks later. My only guess is that he was afraid of the Federation. That someone (Gorshkov, Piseev etc.) can talk I/K out of this.

Edit: I think we'll get more news today. It's just 12 more hours to wait.

Edit #2: And I still can't believe Vica has agreed to skate with Nikita under Morozov. She and Ruslan skated together for so long, and their relationships were great! I wonder what Morozov did to her that she has changed her mind SO QUICKLY. Her pair with Ruslan was established, and they were ready for their breakout year and now...

Or, it was proposed, but by Worlds he thought it wasn't going ahead, and so he denies everything so the federation won't be angry with him for scheming behind their backs - but now Nikita has gone rogue & is trying to make it all happen himself. But you would think, if Morozov was really committed to the pairing of S/K he would be in Mosocow now in contact with the federation trying to smooth things out & advocating for them rather than hot-footing it to New Jersey.

That's a very possible scenario too. Especially since Lena said that it was Nikita's initiative to break up the pair. She even emphasized this statement.

I still believe that the Federation will do anything to keep them together, And I think there's still big chance to do it.

Alexeeva said that Nikita did not tell the Federation about the split. Vica just took her stuff and left the ice screaming 'I'm going to skate with Nikita!!!!1111oneoneone11!!'. She's also wondering why they don't tell about this to the president of the Federation.
Zhulin is still not sure I/K are going to split, since the Federation is 'strongly opposed to it'. He doesn't know any details though.

Thank you to all the Russian-speaking members who have translated and kept us abreast of the latest developments in what has quickly become my favorite soap opera.

:popcorn: If I was running the federation, S/K would be told in no uncertain terms that they can skate together if they want, but kiss goodbye to any support or funding - they have enough talented juniors coming through to not need to sink any more money into adults who seem incapable of acting their age.

I just went onto Ice Partner search, and in 2 seconds found 2 very good female Russian Ice Dancers that Nikita could easily be teamed up with - Maria Simonova and Valeriya Starygina.

The guy dancing with Simonova looks good to me for Elena. How old is he?

At what time is this meeting?

Apparently not such a great relationship. Not from her side at least...;)

Wow, poor Ruslan.

You missed the best quote (IMO) :P
When you plan a formal statement?
- I do not know you better ask Nikita Katsalapova. He instigated the whole thing, so let him make a statement.

Well, with your help as well Victoria. Don't put all the blame on him now.

Dmitri Dragun - he's 20, but he's 6 foot 2, they wouldn't look good together imo.

Well Maria is 1.66cm and she look very well with him. Elena is 1.64cm, not such a big difference I would say.

I don't have time to clean up the translation but for anyone interested here is what I had to start with.
