Oda: Please sit down
Hanyuu: What sort of start is this…
H: Basically they told us to do a freetalk
O: but i am very bad at free talk so i was hoping you could help me a bit
H: So i can just talk on and on
O: yeah yeah
O: So how is it?
H: What is?
Theme: This season
O: Well I’m guessing you’ve been in shows and you’ve been quite busy but how are you? Especially how is it after the olympics? Now that it’s all over
H: Well my environment has changed quite a lot, but i don’t think i have changed myself. I mean it just feels like one extra competition near the end of the season. And so i feel like ‘this season has finished’
O: But i mean… you were working for your goal… OH yeah congratulations on your gold medal
H: Oh thank you haha
O: A bit late i know. I’m sorry for being extremely late
H: but i mean with the gold medal, I was aiming for it, but now that i have it, I was frustrated with my performance so
O: But, but yeah… it was amazing I was watching
H: But I was so nervous
O: Of course you would I was too
H: There is something there right
O: I mean as athletes we aim for that place, it’s our place of dreams. but actually its a place of competition not dream, once you do face the reality. But I hadn’t been able to process that properly, I had to compete there but I was pleased with myself being at the ‘dream.’ But oh forget about my stories…
H: But really i truly understand how you feel, when I went there I did not have much time till the team event, but before going to sochi, i told myself ‘its not the dream place its a competition. It’s a match and i have to compete there’ and that was something I had really tried to understand.
Narrator: Competing in the ‘dream place’ with a strong will. Hanyuu’s excel was the quad jump, and he is said to have the highest success rates.
Theme: Jump
H: Quad toe (i think), I was really confident with myself
O: Yeah you were jumping and jumping. Because in ice shows we trained together… in about 10 minutes you start jumping quad. After the warm up we finally do the axel but you jump the axel in the warm up so its like wait wait wait wait!! Teach me the tips, the tips, how do you jump? Like how… the axel, what sort of feeling do you have?
H: The axel is like… kinda like crashing into the wall
O: kinda like crashing into the wall?
H: You have a straight wall and you go up right close to it, kinda feeling
O: So like this and get close like that
H: yeah
O: Ohhhh~~ that image. I see I will teach the children like that, thank you very much
H: Do we need this??
O: Well i mean you can jump the quad loop
H: Haha thats the most recent info
O: Yes the most recent info , it is
Narrator: Hanyuu is trying to jump the quad loop, with a higher difficulty than the quad toe. It is a hard jump no one has done in an official match.
O: Kanako was really surprised as well, when you were doing the quad loop, she was like ‘omg omg omg’ she was always saying omg. how does it feel, the quad loop
H: I’ve always been saying this but you go shoo!
O: I don’t get the shoo!
H: Well i realised after the loop, but since i started the loop my salchow success rate went up as well. And thats because the most important feeling bit in the loop, is actually the most important bit in the salchow, i mean i think it is in the toe loop too, but because I’ve been focusing and doing it well my salchow and loop got better.
O: Oh i see. so the salchow also affected it
H: Yes
O: Huuhh thats amazing. But seriously, seriously don’t rush it. I mean everyone jumped in the show, so everyone wants to see the quad loop, but go at your own pace, no injuries..
H: I mean whether I’ll put it in competition or not is very difficult. There’s skaters that can jump the loop but most only do till the salchow in competition, so i need consult my stamina and really think about it.
Narrator: and finally, hanyuu talked to us about his future as the 19 year old olympic gold medalist.
Theme: what comes after that
O: well yeah the quad loop is coming as well, and so in the next season, you’ve become the olympic gold. So Yuzu, what do you feel comes after that?
H: Well… the olympic gold as well, but this season is this season. in the new season i may have the same name, but different places, different rink, even the athletes are different, and its completely different performances. Sochi is sochi, and pyongchan in pyongchan, and they have nothing to do with each other. For example winning in Torino didn’t mean winning in Vancouver, and in between that the time had changed. And so i think it will be a different era. But within the change, I think the japanese men will go up, and if the international athletes go up, I am really excited to see what it will become. And so i will have to try and beat that, and so that means everyone will get better. Which will also raise the level of the younger ones. So that is one of my dreams, kind of thing.
O: So everyone will become better, and …
H: And the students Nobu-kun teaches too
O: Yeah~, I need to hurry up and coach good kids. I really shouldn’t be on tv all this time
H: hahah thats true
O: We’ve gotten an OK
H: Oh have we gotten an OK?
O: Thank you very much. Im so nervous my hands are sweating so much, i really can’t do free talk, I’m good at jokes, but not free talk
H: then a joke
O: Joke? um…
(I CANT TRANSLATE A JOKE SORRY SOBS)
