Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

Did you record the ex? can you tell me what was the outfit? I am curious. I hope it's not anything...Weir-ish.

He's wearing what we've already seen him in.
I think echotpe shared it with us already, but you can see the picture of the outfit here.

I recorded it, but I think there'll be HQ videos up by generous people soon.

I wonder what are they saying when pointing at the screen with Yuzuru? Can anyone translate their words?
I have a secret crush on Ken Watanabe. So good to see him even in a commercial.

I've translated it already :)
Speaking of Docomo, there is another version of the ad with Yuzuru. Maki Horikita is the narrator for this one.

Older guy: (pointing to Yuzuru) That's my son
Younger guy: What? (Really?)
Girl: He's lying.

Welcome home in Yuzuland!!! I couldn't even breath while watching it!!!!!!!! pure beauty and emotions on the ice!

Personally, I feel that the new ex is just repeating his previous style...
I think it's quite different in term of elements arranging. But the music style (tender) and the costume make people feel similar (actually it was not too much repetitive, though).

If he changes the costume, it would look more fresh. And to say it frankly, we all have a limit number of moves on ice, if the one performing is the skater that you know, then if there is not a change of costume, you definitely will feel familiar.

Anyways after watching this ex, I am now convinced that the coach change (initiated by JFS) was for the better. At least Orser knows they need to put Yuzuru out of comfort zone and explore new style for him. Had he stayed with Abe, I am afraid the choreography will just repeat the previous style. I have no thing against Ms.Abe, but to win big competitions, Yuzuru needed more new and challenging choreography than those she gave him until Yuzuru moved to Canada. I think Ms.Abe knew this, too.

Honestly, Hana ni Nare, Story and this one feel all the same to me  and it is not because of costume (although I do hope he throws this shirt away someday), it is just choreo style is quite typical

I understand that Orser fans are not enthusiastic about this new ex and it's fine for me.:)

Let me respectfully disagree about the so called "previous style" because Nanami created very different programs for Yuzu , ie Mission impossible, Change, Somebody to love, Vertigo, Etude, R&J1....

About challanging Choreography, I don't think all those Nanami's programms were easier ( I'm not referring to layout), Yuzu himself said Change is a killer program !

Posture and arms movements are much more in control in the new ex, but I think it's related to the choreo...

I don't have any problem with Nanami at all. In fact, I love that she let Yuzu skate to the rock music quite often when he was younger. Those tiny sexy moves of Vertigo is so cute!! I thank Nanami to be open-minded and choreograph those programs for Yuzu.

It is just that I feel that Yuzu seems to pick up the same style of music for his ex recently - Hana ni Nare, the one in FaOI about hometown (言えないよ), and this one. I do hope that he go back to try rock or go out to try any other style of music.

Edit: Now he is always like a pure angel on ice, which is absolutely beautiful, but I am secretly thinking that it would be a bit more fun to portrait some other characters on ice, such as a badass or a playboy? After all, he is going to be 20 soon. I'd love to see how he interprets other type of music and story, and share with us more facets of him (if he is willing to).

Nah, If I remember correctly then Change was not created by Nanami Abe.

Her choreography for Yuzuru when he was still in junior still looked very juniorish. Anyways all junior skaters are like that. We couldn't ask too much for junior level.

Frankly, his programs when he turned senior at the age of 15 didn't look much impressive. White legend is quite beautiful but still belong to the tender style. She choreographed Zigeunerweisen for him, and I have to say it was not much impressive either. When I was watching his Zigeunerweisen, aside from his impressive jumps, I kinda felt annoyed because the program was empty.

2012 season, JFS asked for Russian choreographers' help for Yuzuru's programs as we all know it. I have seen the video in which the Russians instructed him in every moves. They list Ms.Abe as the choreographer for Etude SP and Romeo 1.0, but I am certain the Russians helped a lot.

And we can't compare programs for show with programs for competition, they are pretty much different due to different use. She can give him good ex, though. As much as I dislike David Wilson, I have to admit he knows what kind of choreography would be suitable for competitions.

I don't dismiss Ms.Abe's talents, she is a talented coach/choreographer. But for sure certain choreographer have certain style. As far as I can see, Japanese choreographers all have similar style which is tender, beautiful, a little bit fragile for Yuzuru. That is something connected with their taste and aesthetic. Not that it is anything wrong. But the style they have applied for him recently is unchanged. David Wilson also applied a style for skaters he choreographed for.

That's why I am glad when Yuzuru has Shae-lynn as the new choreographer. I hope she will bring him something fresh. Because to reach a new level, you need to try various styles. And that is exactly what Orser said he was aiming for Yuzuru. I am no way Orser's fan, but "experimenting new style in choreography" mindset at least sounds right if you are testing a coach/instructor's view.

After watching video, I have some words to say about it.
First for me, hana ni nara was better than this current song, because you can guess the air, the tonality of the song. I mean I often hum hana ni nare when I wait something or when I walk in the street, because the rythm and the tonality of the song come easily in your head. But for the new current song, I don't feel the same thing. Of course the man has a beautiful voice and Yuzu tries to feel us the music and he does well but compared to the previous song, it is worse than the other.

And I expected more jumps but with this song, it is correct. Correct me but he did a 3A and a 2T, right ?

And I like the small step at 3:17-18, very graceful

I’ve seen the video over and over since this afternoon, tears in first (recalling some sadness) but smiling at last. I would like to say it is a great one to match its production purposes, to present the memory of past and to give hope in future.

The lights changes are also matched into the lyrics. Yuzu performs very artistic conception, especially seeing from top down view of his skating around the rink. The last part where he holds a gerbera flower is like a newborn baby held in his arm, gentle with new hope. :agree:

The only part I am not dissatisfied is cameramen. They don’t do pretty good at pulling away from close-up. I find TOI cameramen have similar problems.
