First of all, thank you for this informative list - really helps understand the background each skater/team has going into the GPF.

All events really have gathered the strongest skaters and I just can't wait to watch the final.
The fight for the ice dance podium is the one I'm looking forward to the most, although all the events look very promising in terms of competition.

for me, both pairs and ice dance are the most unpredictable fields of all - looking at whole GP and seeing scores and who beat who (especially in ice dance), it will be very tough to predict an actual result. OTOH, I think that in ladies and men the number of realistically possible scenarios (also looking at GPs, scores and who beat who) is smaller than in pairs/ice dance. Predictions game wise, I've had my ladies/men list and maybe 1 alternate variation almost immediately after final 6 were unveiled, but for pairs/ice dance I'll dbating until the very deadline...

NHK failed to unite the 5 quad brothers. Can we get it at GPF?

I'm very sad Anna and Luca couldn't make it to the final. I'm not their biggest fan but I think this year they have two really good programs and they were pretty solid during their GPs, they were just super unlucky with the assignments and of course not having a home country GP event doesn't help them either

Still can't believe it! With the Brazilian tragedy that occurred, I find myself thinking that if we were able to rebuild from the 1961 devastating loss that U.S. figure skating sustained, we can do anything. Come on Team USA! You still have a lot of life left in you! Go, go go! :hap10:

But in fairness there are so many good dance teams. I really was cheering for the innovative Gilles and Porier and Weaver and Poje keep on having bad luck. Missing the 2010 olympics barely, missing gold at worlds by a fraction less than a tenth.

Well it was a bit of a fluke to be honest. Who would have every had thought Gracie would implode so badly and that Ashley would be so off. However, it is not nearly as bad as Russia which may only have two pairs teams and two dance teams at the next olympics.

Very interesting that the ladies who made the GPF are actually the top 6 on the Seasons Best Total Scores! Not the same in the other disciplines - but most are at least made the top 10, except in Dance where a team that made the final is only ranked # 12 on the Seasons Best List! Guess H/D were the luckier ones in regards to assignments.

Or maybe that's because certain other dance teams above them on the SB list (Bobrova/Soloviev, Gilles/Poirier, Ilinykh / Zhiganshin, Tobias / Tkachenko) all got super-inflated scores either from their home GP (CoR/SC) or a Challenge Event with Mordovian Ornament scoring (Tallinn Trophy). None of those four teams got anywhere near equivalent scores in their other events this season.

And BTW, Hubbell / Donohue defeated Gilles / Poirier head-to-head at TDF, where G/P scored 12 points less than their SB from SC. That's why H/D are in the GPF and G/P are second alternates.

Hubbell & Donahue actually defeated three teams head-to-head that have higher SBs: Bobrova & Soloviev, Ilinykh & Zhiganshin, and Gilles & Poirier.

That said, H&D did get a good draw. SA made sure of that. (USFSA had to make a judgment call there. Send H&D out so they wouldn't get slotted behind the Shibs right away or keep them at SA so they would have a better shot at making the final. They kept them, and H&D made the final). SC made the same call with Gilles & Poirier and G&P didn't. But they did get a great SB. Bobrova & Soloviev benefited from their homefield event as well, as did everyone else who got to skate at home.

Cappellini & Lanotte didn't. Nor did Weaver & Poje. Both teams have an excellent shot of knocking off a couple GPF finalists later in the season. They will have to skate well, but they had the tougher draws. And because of that, they shouldn't be underestimated. There simply wasn't enough room in the GPF this season for all the dance teams that can challenge for the final flight at Worlds.
