2017 GP Cup of China Mens SP

I might be misinterpreting Javi’s remarks and maybe even out of context but I’m not certain he’s complaining his performance deserved higher scores. To me it could be read as he is getting feedback from the judges that he needs to improve his program based on the scores which are lower than he expected to get.

The dude is a world champion and probably has rather high expectations. Higher than most. He’ll get there. That’s why he is a world champion.

This is first year I am Jin fan. Good everything much improved. He is a contender and Kolyada is too. Best sps of event.

As usual ladies event was better....

I think that the Javier Malagueña program was highly appreciated by the judges.
Compared to that, the program of this season 's Chaplin may be slightly disappointing.
I think that this program has too many numbers of songs used and it is distracted as a whole.
Since I saw this program at the ice show before the season, I thought so.
Javier may have a possibility of returning to Malagueña.

He actually thinks he deserve higher component scores. Say what??? The guy from Eurosport live stream thought he was marked base on reputation and so with many of us here.

I think his style of choreography is kind of stale after seeing it over and over, over the years. Like those judges, I didn't like it too. It's looking a bit cheesy now.

Uhhh... what?! He was totally marked based on reputation, with up to 9.75. He's lucky to have cleared 45 points.

I loves me some Javi, but he scored over 90 with errors on two jumping passes (including turning a quad to a triple, and a triple to a double).

And yes, that was my fear with this Chaplin program... he isn't bringing anything new to the table.

I looked up the GOEs the other skaters received with relevant mistakes at the sp.

Javi’s 3a with step out (good speed, complex preceding steps) ; -1.57
Max’s 3a with a hand down, (good speed, simple preceding steps);-1
Grant’s 4T with step out, (slow, telegraphed) ; -2.83

Javi’s 3t2t ( he changes axis of 4T in the air, saves landing and exits 2t with a left hand on the hip as part of choreography; 0.40
Han’s 3lz2t ( he lands forward on 3lz and adds a tight 2t) ; -0.4

I don’t think Javi’s TES/GOEs on two jump mistakes were terribly inflated, but within the range and quite justifiable.

Javi's program concept is not new, but the choreography/composition as a whole is finely constructed, step sequence in character and to the music. Probably the most mature and polished in this field.
A less than technically clean program (without a fall) may impact the "performance" subcategory, but I see no reason the rest of the PCS should be marked down.

I don't think Chaplin suits a competitive program, even Berezhnaya/Sikharulidze looked awkward with it. But this one from Fernandez actually changes my opinion to the positive, though certainly not as attractive as a dance concept or a rock concept.

It's still better than Bolero, which in my eyes is absolutely not for figure skating (Torvill/Dean included).

Great breakthrough performance for Kolyada. His quad lutz is so great, he still has room left in the in air by the time he is fully backwards! That's how jumps should be at their best. He doesn't get the same length on the jump as Boyang does but that's okay.
