No, no Joe. You've got it all wrong on the mens & ladies winners. It will be Brandon Mroz & Marai Nagasu!!. :agree:

Joe,
I have to agree with you on Barizova and Larionov. They were very impressive in thier Skate America third place.

Chiming in to add to the Bazarova/Larionov love. They are wonderful. Their Amelie free skate last year from World Juniors is the only Amelie program I've ever liked. Her positions and the way she uses her hands are amazing.

You sure do love the Russians, don't you!?

That is so neither here nor there, and I don't see what that has to do with anything. If Bazarova/Larionov skated for Outer Mongolia or Uzbekistan or wherever, I'd still like them.

I like skaters from every nationality. My own country doesn't have any skaters, so I root for whomever I like. If I'm attracted to someone's skating, I don't give a sh*t what country they skate to. If they happen to be Russian, well, what is the problem? Some of my other favorite skaters: Savchenko & Szolkowy, Yu-Na, Miki, Mao, Daisuke, Verner, Johnny, Mirai and my favorite skater ever is Sasha.

I didn't like Belbin/Agosto's Amelie, if that's what you're referring to. I thought it was empty and ugly. I quite like their FD this year and I really enjoyed their Shadritsa free dance.

The judges are up.

The panel for the Ice Dance competition:

POL CZE CAN RUS UKR GEO USA JPN ITA

Once again we have judges from THREE former SSRs on a 9-judge panel.
Why the Georgian judge was selected once again is beyond me.

The panel for PAIRS:

CZE POL EST USA UKR CAN FRA JPN RUS CHN

Three former SSRs on this panel, too.

For the LADIES:

POL CAN USA EST FRA UKR FIN RUS CZE JPN

Three former SSRs here, too.

For the MEN:

JPN POL FRA GEO CZE USA RUS CHN FIN CAN

Only two SSRs here.

Why are judges from GEO and CZE on so many panels? There are no skaters from either country in this event. Why not use judges from SUI, SWE, AUS?

I'm afraid we'll see the same kind of engineered panels at the GPF as well. :frown:

If Mirai skates her best, the judges from EST, UKR and RUS will be singled out if they differentiate from the flow of the Panel.

I don't see any questionable judging in the Men's event but I too, wonder why the Georgian judge is there. Maybe they had trouble getting a Swiss or Swdish judge on the Panel. Thinking about the top 10 World skaters

I would compare protocols in Pairs to see if the scores are about even from ALL the judges. I don't think Moskvina would like it if a team coming out of Juniors won over her team in their second season.

No French judge in Ice Dance? hmmm.

Joe

Isn't there some sort of random draw for the judges among all ISU members?

I just perused the ISU membership list. I counted 61 nations represented. Quite a few of them (at least 18, I am guessing) do not have any qualified international judges. Of the remainder, 18 have historical, political, cultural, and especially skating ties to Russia.

So I don't see anything surprising or sinister about the fact that three out of nine are from this group.

Estonia actually has a skater in the mix (Issakova), so we will be able to see whether three judges give her elevated marks, or only one (the Estonian judge. :) )
