2009-2010 Programs by Discipline

Rippon's new short program

I like it. But nevertheless I wished that he would have gone for jazz or rock in one of his programs, he does it well as he has shown in exhibitions. Somehow this program makes you look at his skatings skills and speed - not that they aren't good, but compared to the two leaders of the current puppy generation, Chan and Kozuka, they tend to look average. Add Brezina who skates with so much power and also effortless edges... I think Rippon needs to find a signature style in order to stand out among those Skating-Skill-wizards. In exhibitions he has a way of moving a bit like Stéphane, very natural, not at all ballet-like, very intuitively and with the same exuberant joy. Maybe that could be his niche, become the next Stéphane Lambiel...

EDIT: I forgot to say: Thank you Adam for not doing all of the jumps at the beginning, or the jump-jump-spin-jump version that some other skaters do during the short (though I still prefer that to jump-jump-jump). Adam has actually a footwork sequence between the jump elements, plus a spin! Hooray for the little one!

I'm not sure about Mukhortova/Trankov 'Love Story' though. Maria does not look like she can pretend to love Max and Max can't pretend to love Maria.

Imagine if they put out a performance that resembles a real love story, a couple in love. That may give judges and regular audience to appreciate the performance more than its actual worth. After all when expectation are that low any decent performance will be considered good

Well, I love Rippon's short program. Beautiful music...He looks like he is dancing out there. I prefer him to Mroz, and sometimes even <gasp> Patrick Chan. His skating is so natural and fluid. I absolutely loved the footwork. Hopefully he can skate the program to his/it's full potential.

I also just listened to the song that the Kerrs are skating to for their FD this season. It is definitely different. It'll be interesting to see how they interpret the music. I'm not a fan of their OD music choice. Whenever I think about it, I only am able to think about that travel commercial...hopefully their skating can change my perception of, "I've Been Everywhere."

As for the Shibutanis, I don't think anyone can disagree with their choice for OD. They did an amazing Japanese OD 2 years ago and none of the international judges even saw that one (as Maia was still too young to compete on the JGP). The fact that Tokyo will host the final makes me really excited.

As for their FD, it will be interesting to see how the program is put together. I really like this choice of music for them though...I don't think they've ever done anything this mature so it is nice to see them trying something different. I don't think it will be anything less than stunning.

According to those who went to Thornhill, V&M's FD is Mahler's Symphony No 5. (the one Katia did as a tribute to Sergei, after his death)

Thanks for posting the link, Medusa.
Not bad, I guess. I've tried to fall in love with Adams skating before, I'll try again this upcoming season. His cross-overs bother me though, but maybe it's the size of the rink.

Adam looks much better minus the Morozov chreo. Medusa, I would not get to happy just get over his layout, this was just an exhibition and he did not perform the jumps he would in competition. He might do the same old boring jump-jump-jump layout when the pressure is on.

Nice program though. Good chreography, and I liked the sublte moments. He will have to skate perfectly clean though for this program to really fly.

I don't know if you are including junior skaters, but if you are...

My thoughts exactly. I think Morozov was great for him because he learned to use his whole body to move and interpret, and he learned difficult footwork as well. But now Brian Orser and David Wilson have helped him get rid of those Morozov affectations and skate in a more natural style without losing the expression and fluidity. Great job!

I'm not so much into Adam's programs this season's - a bit too vanilla. I watched them yesterday, and anything I remember was that the fall on 3T was perfectly timed to the music and I was very uncomfortable with the EX because of way too much naked skin and sexy posing. (Okay, so call me a prude.)

I agree with this post by Medusa:

Now that you mention it, the costume and movements in Adam's old SP Toccata and Fugue remember me a bit of Stephane's Dralion (though of course Stephane was more mature of a skater when he skated to Dralion). Adam's skating a bit "softer", though (he used to remind me of Johnny Weir, though eventually his style changed... Especially the footwork).

Saw this on IN:

Jessica Crenshaw/Chad Tsagris
SP - undecided
LP - they're sticking with Cinema Paradiso

CP is lovely, but it's becoming overused. Do people not realize that Moriccone composed more than two film scores?

Love Story?! Love Story?!

I have a feeling that this will be epic either way.

At the very least, the thought of a Russian pair skating to Love Story at an Olympics held in Canada will get the Canadian media in a twist. I still remember how some people fussed about Kawaguchi/Smirnov skating to Love Story.

I think anything Masha and Max do is epic, full of drama and theatrics. I  them so much! I find them so intriguing. I really hope this program proves to be more successful for them!

Mukhortova and Trankov are definitely artistic, and last year's short program showed us that they can connect with each other. If they are able to do that the program will be certainly enjoyable.

:agree::love::bow::yes::clap:

i saw a video on youtube on vanessa crone and paul poirier's OD from the Thornhill skate - FLAMENCO....very nice. but i dont see the video anymore.

Um--I'd have to say Eleanor Rigby was a lot different, especially as originally conceived. It was a study of a descent into depression of a woman, and the inabilities of anyone to help.

I'm willing to go with POTO and S&D being potentially the same, but I'd have to see POTO first :)

Polovetsian Dances wasn't particularly dramatic however.

Polovetsian Dances & Samson and Delilah are definitely, definitely similar.

I like Adam's new program very much and think that it has potential to be a very memorable program. He certainly tries to interpret the music and although at the moment it looks a little bit forced, I'm sure it can become more natural as the season progresses.

Davis and White's OD's music is taken from the soundtrack of the Bollywood movie Devdas. They have been taking Indian dancing classes.
