Mirai Nagasu:
SP Music: Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack
FS Music: Carmen

So Carmen's been snapped up! Never expected Mirai to be the one to do it though.
There already was a Carmen for next season - Dube/Davison's LP. But quick, skaters! Turandot and Swan Lake are still available! :p

Pirates might be fun, I hope she chooses parts of the score that haven't been done to death.

Was fencing at Champs camp such a good idea? Maybe we will see a Gala next season featuring a sword fight between Alissa/Zorro and Pirate/Mirai ;)

I really don't know if MK showed her planned LP that season. I'm certain I didn't see it.
I'm talking about sometime after the surgery. It could have been someone else skating to it. Maybe in Juniors? The music's opening chords are so glaring, maybe I just assumed this was MK's Torino LP music. Anyway it was a different version of Rachs.

Carmen and Mirai don't seem like a good combo. But baby Mao did pretty well with it (she won the comp). She was as much Micaela as Carmen, which was appropriate for her age and personality.

Re: Mao's choice of Rachmaninov pieces - whaaat??? It's great music but I'm baffled at the idea of making an Olympic FP out of it. She's really going to the other extreme from last year's FP! I really hope she's making a good decision. I so want her to have a great year!

Might have been Alexander Uspenski? I think he used some version of this, combined with some other pieces, in his LP a couple of years ago.

Jeff Buttle also used it for his short program in 2004-05.

Since Tatiana Tarasova choreographed both Michelle's 2006 LP and Mao's current program, I wonder if they will be similar (with a triple Axel thrown in. :) )

Mirai Nagasu:
SP Music: Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack
FS Music: Carmen

So Carmen's been snapped up! Never expected Mirai to be the one to do it though. I hope it's Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy... much more exciting!

WHO picked these? I love Pirates....but not for her.
Carmen. no way. Mirai is not carmen. I was hoping she would pick something slightly more mature than the cutesy stuff she has been doing. Daphnis and Chole would have been perfect imo. I guess she will do a playful, flirty carmen like Mao did. Sorry...i think these are just very bad music choices. I know there always has to be a carmen in an olympic year...and her chances of making the olympic team just went up....but i cringe at the thought of her interpretation of the story.

The Rachmaninoff Prelude for Mao's LP is very beautiful but slightly monotonous for a skating piece. There aren't many changes in tempo or dynamic.. Is the whole thing only 4 minutes long? It might be a good idea to couple it with another piece, one that can provide a bit of contrast. But we'll have to see what Mao and TAT come up with.

And wow at Mirai's choices. Pirates of the Caribbean? Um... What happened to more mature music? (Yeah I know, Carmen...) I hope it's not the obvious selections but still. Sounds like something a nine-year-old would skate to. Not a good choice IMO. As for Carmen, I have a feeling it's not going to be a fun, flirty version like Mao's. And I'm okay with that. I'd like to see a more serious, grown-up Mirai, and I think she could do a good job with it.

Ashley Wagner's choices:

SP Music: Once Upon a Time in America
FS Music: Polovtsian Dances

Not familiar with the SP, but OMG love love love Polovetsian Dances!! <3 Well known, but not overused. Great choice, I think she would do an amazing job with it.

Ashley has the best music so far.
Of the ladies mentioned in this thread - yes, I think she does. The skate gods should smile upon her for avoiding the warhorses.

LeCygne, there is a lot of stuff from Once Upon a Time in America on Youtube, you can take your pick...

The last two days have been a music announcement race!
Ashley's choices are pretty good. I love "Debroah's Theme" from Once Upon a Time in America.

I assume she will use at least part of it in her program.

One the whole I am not too excited by anybody's choices though. Mao's LP has promise, but it sounds like something she would skate too. I can picture it now. Jeremy abbot also picked some interesting music.

oh no...The Dances were my secret hope for Yu-Na's FS. I'm almost in tears :frown: I used to listen to this wonderful music thinking of her. Life is cruel!
Anyway, Sp music is a brilliant idea: I would kill to watch someone skating to "Amapola"...it would be just perfect for Ashley. She always does the most fascinating - and smart - music choices.
(But still...)

The last two days have been a music announcement race.
Ice Network has been updating their athlete bio section and that's where most of the new information is coming from. Some of the skaters listed "TBA" under their music selections, but many did fill it in.

Hmm I agree, it would have made a really good LP for Yu-Na too. It's just a great piece of music, and Ashley has been very good about her selections for the past two seasons.

I actually love the pieces that Ashley choose, however I do think they are very similar in style in comparison to what she used last season. Of course, I don't know yet how the music will be edited, it's just the first thing that popped into my mind. Anyways, I think Polovetsian Dance fits her style quite nicely, I'm not too excited for Once Upon A Time In America though I wish she'd do something more upbeat, at least for one of her programs. Hope she can pull off all the drama.
