Gogo used to be very steady before he grew up so tall. Then, injuries detailed him. However, he wasn't back in his early days, a nervous or inconsistent skater.

I caught the final three. Kazuki and Stephen put me to sleep musically, but Stephen landed stuff. Stephen's skating still does nothing for me, but nice to see him jumping better.

I love Andrew's costume! Looks like he wanted bling this year and both costumes look so good. I think if he'd gone for 4T+2T he may have done it clean. For his first (ISU) competition out, Andrew did so well. Last year he was 14th in the short and 9th overall here. The "pauses" in Andrew's program were in the songs themselves, and he pauses for choreographic effect. For those puzzled over his layout, he did exactly the same layout last year at Nationals and Worlds. Yes, there is zayak potential, but his layout did not surprise me.

Andrew's choreo sequence is absolute fire - love it so much!!!

I've seen this dynamic before. I can't recall the specifics, but I feel like in the past, the American judge would lowball an American skater if they seemed on track to beat the "preferred" American skater.

Andrew T was quite underwhelming. I think people and judge expected a lot hence he was held up. Gog was the deserved winner. I do hink Roman was underscored pc wise. His skating was like butter. He has a great glide and wonderful emoton. But he got lower scores than many of the top 5 including Stephen who he usually would beat especially when he isn't falling all over the place. I think Lukas and Andrew were underwhelming but the Canadian men are bringing it. But they only have one spot and 3 or 4 contenders. Stephen takes the lead for the one spot BUT honestly I would have had Roman second overall here. He is paying the price for his years of inconsistency andquite frankly many disappointing skates.

Except I am not sure there is a preferred Canadian skater. Just a group of great mediocrity and or unfulfilled potential. But this makes the Canadian battle more fascinating and unpredictable.

Some of us have noticed that it is a pattern with CAN judges in regards to their own skaters whether the top skaters or not. It even happens in the JGP.

Andrew did just fine for a September comp.

I love love love the costume that's as much bling as I have ever seen on Andrew, and he looks great in it.

The choreo and the step sequence spark joy in my soul. The music, well he likes it, and for those of us who understood the lyrics to L'Enfer, it's of a piece.

As someone following Andrew for 11 years now I am somewhat immune to jump issues. He has had them off and on his whole career. A clean Andrew is glorious, a not clean Andrew is still worth watching.

I just came by to say that I love my Frangi's FP.... I couldn't help but remembering my Son-in-law's program to the same music (Joseph Phan)

Frangi was perfect despite the awful botched spin and the pops Gotta love da guy.

No, friend, this is exactly what happened in this case.

Every judge ranked Gogo first, except the Canadian judge. And who did he rank first? Roman.

I'm telling you it fits the pattern, friend. Before the competitive season began, Gogo wasn't REALLY on anyone's list for the Olympic selection. Not really. Then when Keegan announced his return, it was all about whether Keegan or Roman would get the spot. And now suddenly, Gogo seems a legitimate threat, perhaps even the early favorite.

And that wasn't in Skate Canada's plans. So what does their judge do? Ding Gogo just a bit by being the only judge to place him second, and he elevates Roman with a first placement - when nearly every other judge had Roman in 3rd or 4th (only the Japanese judge ranked Roman 2nd). And it's not just the placements - it's the points. The Canadian judge scored Steven lower than every other judge on the panel, and he scored Roman the highest of any of the judges.

It's obvious. Roman is the fed's "preferred" skater. At least until they see what Keegan's got.

My friend sat next to Liam's coach on an international flight and said he was incredibly rude to the staff and hogged the armrests.

Poor Liam - I really hope his coach treats him well. However, I'm here in Oberstdorf and noticed after the short programme that Liam's coach spent a long time (must have been about 20 minutes) talking at him - difficult to tell from the coach's body language whether it was criticism or just constructive feedback, but whichever way, it was a long time to talk at someone. Liam looked to be patiently listening.

Liam's a beautiful skater - has real quality - well done to him for coming third in the free skate.
