2014-2015 GPF Mens Short Program 12/12

I totally agree..

and I also miss Chan's skating...

same. I wish some of these American men would get their ish together. There are a few of them that I think could help fill the void, but they aren't landing their jumps... :drama:

I'll break it down, point-by-point:

Hanyu’s spin base values: 9.7.
Hanyu’s spin GOEs: 2.72
Total: 12.42

Machida’s spin base values: 9.3
Machida’s spin GOEs: 2.06
Total: 11.36

Advantage: Hanyu by 1.06

Hanyu’ step sequence base value: 3.9
Hanyu’s step sequence GOE: 1.5
Total: 5.4

Machida’s step squence base value: 3.3
Machida’s step sequence GOE: 0.93
Total: 4.23

Advantage: Hanyu by 1.17.

Hanyu’s 3A: 9.35 base value (2nd half) + 2.43 GOE = 11.78
Machida’s 3A: 8.5 base value + 1.57 GOE = 10.07

Advantage: Hanyu by 1.71.

Hanyu’s solo jump (4T): 10.3 base value + 2.00 GOE = 12.30
Machida’s solo jump (3Lz, 2nd half): 6.6 + 0.80 GOE = 7.4

Advantage: Hanyu by 4.9

With all those taken into consideration, Hanyu has a lead of 8.84 over Machida. Now let’s look at the jump combinations:

Hanyu’s 3Lz-3T (2nd half, with fall) = 11.11 base value - 1.9 GOE (with the high and low scores dropped out, he had five -3’s and two -2’s) = 9.21.
Machida’s 4T-3T = 14.4 base value - 2.14 GOE (with the high and low scores dropped, he had six -2‘s and one -3) = 12.26

Advantage: Machida by 3.05

So now Hanyu’s lead in TES is cut down to 5.79, and that’s where the difference comes from. Also consider this: the TES scores don’t show the 1.00 deduction Hanyu got for the fall, which is added at the end of the program. It's up to you whether or not you think the GOEs they got were justified.

the truth has been spoken

"Hanyu is very in the moment. I think it makes him less reliable, but there's a certain intangible. It wasn't taught to him, it's something he just understands"
I agree:)

Thank you for this and especially because you were seeing it live. I always feel that Machida is underscored.

I still feel that Machida should hold the WR for the men's SP and should be the 2013 World Champion and it's been my wish for many months that he may take home the GP championship this year. In any case, nothing's over till it's over, and there's the FS tomorrow! It's nice to know there are other Machida fans :)

A few other belated reflections on watching the GPF live... Seeing Mura skate to Carmen so soon after Elena and Ruslan was a bizarre experience, especially because some of the music cuts were quite similar. Seeing Kovtun skate to Bolero after Liza yesterday was also bizarre. (Mostly because I think Elena and Ruslan, and Liza, had the better choreographed programs, and so I was seeing phantom Elenas and Ruslans and Lizas sharing the rink with Mura and Voronov respectively).

I hope Javier calms down after tonight - it must have been overwhelming to skate with such support, the crowd was louder for him than for Hanyu! But they're there because they love him and they're so supportive, so here's hoping for a fantastic FS :)

Wow...now I know why I just could not warm up to him even before the Olympics.
Look, for Russian kids the "n word" is just a cool word they see in movies and hear in hip-hop songs, that's all. They repeat it because they think it's cool, because they want to be like their hip-hop heroes. It may look racist to people in US, but it really isn't. It's just kids repeating whatever they think is hip and cool. Since there are pretty much no black people in Russia (I've lived about 20 years of my life in Russia without meeting anyone black), nobody gets offended, nobody is taught that the word is bad and the kids keep using it.

Well, the ISU made its rules and they have spoken. Us little people can only bow down to them.

I don't necessarily agree with them; I was just breaking down the scores. Falls aren't penalized harshly enough, and there really needs to be some kind of bonus for jump combinations so the difficulty of a 4T-3T, for example, is recognized.

Tomorrow I will not be surprised if he falls 5x and still wins. i guess that's really his reputation.

Ugh, he's like the American Denis Ten. So much talent and potential, so inconsistent, often held back by injuries and such. :drama:

I just saw Denis's name in your comment and I already feel sad that he didn't make it to the GPF. He's so talented, but he doesn't have the mental strength of a champion:no:

Kovtun skated to Bolero...not Voronov :)

If Joshua pulls a Denis Ten, Joshua and his fans will have plenty to celebrate over. An Olympic bronze medal and world silver medal are nothing to sniff at :)

if joshua can truely be American Denis that really is not bad at all, OBM, WSM
but I still wish Joshua could be stronger and more consistent. if he cannot, then be the american denis ten:laugh:

Oh, I know, as a Denis fan I'm elated he has a world and olympic medal. But seeing how talented he is(like Josh is), I wish he'd deliver a bit more. Of course I'd be happy if Josh made the podium at worlds and olympics.
