2014 Cup of China Free Dance 11/08

Papadakis and Cizeron deserved to win herel. Thank God they got the marks. The two best programs of the year by far.

IZ need work to do, but the good news is that there is a lot of material to work with. Soft knees, gorgeous edges, fast twizzles with great ice coverage, and he looks like he is lifting a rag doll. I don't fear for her life like I feared for Sinitsina's. The FD is a bit of a snooze but i think it shows off what they have.

The Shibs really need to get away from Marina. They just aren't improving on their tech scores.

I think C/L's FD has potential but something has been off with them the whole competition.

C/L need to dump that program, both programs and run back to Igor. Why did they leave? Man that was embarrassing to watch.

I think they should go back to Igor, maybe Marina is spending most of her time with S/K, not sure about the programs.

I just caught up with this event. Am a bit sad about C/L, but I can live with it. I didn't like their programs. Thought their SD was relatively okay still, in spite of the odd choice of dress, but the FD left me completely uninterested. I wish they'd just revert to last year's FD. :scowl:

The sadness is GREATLY lessened, however, by the fact that P/C won. I adore their skating. They were terrific last year, and I'm thrilled they're here to stay. I cannot put into words how much I'd love to see them make it to the GPF. Their second GP will be harder, but it should be possible to qualify... fingers crossed!

I actually think the Chinese fed is pretty fair when it comes to marking - there doesn't seem to be quite as much home cushioning in China.

Yes, I agree. Just look at Han Yan. He wasn't home cooked so far

It's funny to watch the roller coaster ride C/L are having in the past years. I learned to never discount them out. I am sure they will fight back this year.

And you can see how strong French Federation is, from no contender to a viable candidate for European title in a matter of one off-season.

And Zijun, she wasn't home cooked, either.

Or their ice dance teams! They could have tried to push Wang's and Liu's scores up a bit, because they were the best Chinese ice dance team in this comp, but they marked them quite fairly, I think. - On that note, on which I think I'm coming closer to the thread topic, I was quite impressed by the Chinese ice dance teams, especially with Wang and Liu. And they are quite young, so they have time to continue to work on their skating skills and on their presence on-ice. She was definitely making good attempts at emoting using facial expression, etc, they just need to skate a bit bigger.

Well, the French Fed may be strong, but they are certainly helped by the fact that P/C are a very good team that has been packaged with some lovely programs this year. Their FD is exquisite.

i am not diminishing their talent. Just saying that it takes more than that in this sport. the opportunity was there and they ceased it.

FFSG and strong are not going well together nowadays.
But what can people do when two ice dancers work their asses off during summer to show improvements and come back with TWO fantastically put together programs? I mean they have the right material at just the perfect time. And they have only themselves to thank for that, because last year the FFSG didn't really did help them.

Last year there were other priorities.

Teams get held down a lot when there is a top team in your country to support. Plus a lot of people have raved on this team for awhile. I remember Skating lesson had a guest choreographer who raved about them last year. She said though they were having problems with their federation. Didier wanted them to switch coaces. And they would not so last year they were getting low balled.
However this year France cannot afford to low ball them. A lot of teams are gone so young teams can move up. Many have been predicting them rising.

But noone predicted they would come with just the right material to rise up faster. Without those two programs, they would have gotten up the ranks. But not as fast.

We did see some excellent judging in here. But some GOE desicions made me laugh.

Capellini/Lanotte's first lift got +2 GOE from one judge. Changing positions are very labored, timing was all wrong, butt pose was not aesthetic and most importantly exit is very very bad. I expected negative GOE. +2 made me::laugh:
Ilinykh/Zhiganshin's twizzles got -1 from one judge. In short dance it was messy but even than no judge gave them negative GOE. They are using music, ice coverage is good, speed is good, looks synchronized. I expected +2s. -1 made me::laugh:

Luca gave the most unholy wicked smile whilst sliding his hand down the front of Anna's body. Oh my!

Maybe that is why I can't get into their Danse Macabre free dance. When I first hear they will skate Danse Macabre, I imagined something dark and dangerous. I certainly didn't imagine cute little pink dress for Anna and Luca smiling playfully, seductively whole dance.
