2014 Worlds Men Short Program

Yes! It was the skate of a lifetime for him, with the fans freaking out even before the ending pose. It was beautiful. Totally deserved.
Maybe the PCS/GOE inflation these days makes me more cynical about all the high scores. :bang:

Hanyu score at GPF wasn't so "unreasonable" high. He received 102 points TES with fall on quad sall, and for level 1 on last spin. Just add lost points in TES and you will receive what deserved points he can hit. But the rest of jumps beside sal was perfect.

With 92 PCS? His PCS was 82 in TEB 2013. That is definitely inflation, I think Hanyu deserved to win the title in GPF, just... 92 PCS for that program is too much for me.

Same thing with Machida. His SP today is the skate of his life time and even though I don't agree with the score, I do think he deserves about 96. If he skates like that in his free skate, or even lesser compare to today's performance, then he deserves it. Of course it also depends on how well Javi will skate. BUT if Machida get like over 90 PCS for his free skate in friday with the same boring performance at Sochi, I will be very very disappointed at the judges. :slink: But well, what can I do.:p

I do think Hanyu is out of the race for gold at the moment, 7 points is a big gap and he is under large pressure right now. But silver is still in his reach. Unless all other men bomb and Hanyu stands still, then I will shut up about his PCS for once.:p And I don't think that will happen.
If Hanyu could really deliver R&J 2.0 this time, then it will be a miracle. I will bow down to the kid no matter which spot the judge panel give him. I only want him to be clean, don't care about the gold. Cause I don't want to see a champion who falls anymore.:disapp:

I think he just has to have a clean skate and not change anything. Javier and Yuzuru also need to skate and cannot afford too many mistakes, imho. Sochi-like Frees won't do here. I'm happy that everything is still possible.

Does anyone know if Kozuka will continue his career after this season?

When did Machida become so good?! By the way, who is the gentleman sitting at Machida's left side in the Kiss & Cry?

My personal perfect podium within the realms of possibility right now would be:

If Machida had a bad day, And Fernandez, Hanyu and Verner made it to the podium

Is that Evil ? :\

The thought of Verner medaling makes me salivate, But not at the expense of Fernandez or Hanyu

I don't see how anyone could wish ill on any skater.

And really, I don't understand all this snark and hate against Machida. He has a beautiful program that he skated beautifully. He is deservedly in first.

Despite solid results all year long, I think Machida is perceived as a second-tier skater in Japan behind Yuzuru, Takahashi and even Kozuka despite the later having lukewarm results all year long.

After all, this is his first worlds (!).

Personally, I like Machida a lot! He was one of my faves when I went to Skate America in 2012, and that was when he didn't have a quad.

This!

It is an amazing feat! It is the FIRST World Championship for Machida. It is ok if people are disappointed in the results of their favourites. But that's not the fault of a skater who had the skate of his life at his first WC.

And if he wins worlds, he will no longer be considered second tier again. But i'm sure his haters will still refer to him as such.

Actually what you said might just prove it was unreasonably high considering those errors. Irony :)

I didn't even realize he had haters until I read through this thread.

WEll the PCS seem very generous - look at Max Aaron. Remember these skaters aren't of the samve pc quality as Buttle, Lambiel or Chan but the scores say something else. Canada is going to be down to one man - is that right? Hanyu still is in decent position to win. Javier must be salvating. But sadly the energy isn't there like the olympics.

That certainly isn't the fault of Machida or Aaron....., or any of the other skaters besides the Canadians.

And we could see this coming. Chan (and Reynolds to an extent) has been holding up the Canadian team for the last few years. Now that Chan isn't here and Reynolds isn't faring great (due to his boot issues), the lack of depth in the Canadian men's team is starting to show.

That said, I think Reynolds and Nam can go up a few spots in the FS and keep two spots.

Lol, no. His PCS are more deserved than Chans as of right now. Who knows what might happen in the future if he wins world title, but as of right now no one beats inflation

The skating quality and transitions are not there to even be in the ball park with Chan or even Buttle or Lambiel. Fernandez LP has not been received nearly as well as his previous. Machida, Kozuka and Hanyu all have great skills but not the same level as Chan, Lambiel or Buttle - he doesn't have the edge control, transitions.

But at least Hanyu got an UR for the fall in his 4T today, while PChan in the same situation might not.

The race for gold now is only for Machida and Javi, their marks are close. It's hard to tell which one of these 2 will get the gold because neither of them are expectable and consistent. But I think it will be Machida:popcorn:

Hanyu's strength is his SP and now that he messed up his SP, he has no chance for the gold. Not to mention his weakness in FS has never been solved.
Hanyu, with his best, can only have the silver or bronze for sure. And I don't believe in a miracle for his FS.

Um, I didn't realize Chan, Lambiel or Buttle was at Worlds?

I think almost everyone put Hanyu first for the worlds' prediction game, and in traditional NCAA basketball style - bracket busted!

There is no way Japan is crazy enough to award a clean Machida 200 in the FS if even a clean Chan couldn't break that margin. Machida's BV is 84 and that would take a lot of GOE padding and PCS well into the 90s.. Even for Hanyu breaking 200 is stretch - they gotta really wanna hand out that number if they do.
