Bestemianova thinks that Stepanova/Bukin should be Russian #3 team. Ilinykh/Zhiganshin and Sinitsina/Katsalapov are never going to be Olympic champions, they're just two solid teams, nothing more. She's happy for Bobrova/Soloviev, because she was sure they will not come back successfully, but at NHK she was surprised they made it. And also she already handed 2022 Olympics gold medal to Stepanova/Bukin. This is HILARIOUS. Absolutely hilarious. And I'm not even going to post what she said about Yuna and Yuzuru.
The whole interview is hilarious: http://echo.msk.ru/programs/dithyramb/1666558-echo/

Zoueva gave her opinion also here, very interesting and somewhat harsh interview: http://rsport.ru/interview/20151130/882747479.html

Okay, I'll bite and have to ask: what did she say about Yuna and Yuzuru? ;)

So far, we have:

- Bobrova / Soloviev (OGM, Euro champ, world bronze)
- Stepanova / Bukin (3rd nationals, Euro bronze, consistent GP finishes)
- Ilinykh / Zhigansin (national champs)
- Sinitsina / Katsalapov (GP medals this year, alternate for GPF)
- Monko / Khaliavin (former World Jr champs)
- Yanovskaya / Mozgov (current World Jr champs)

They're all fighting to get one of TWO spots for worlds this year. I think they can get three spots back for next year, but this year's nationals will be WAR. I cannot wait.

I think it will be quite difficult for them to get 3 spots back actually. Highest place for a Russian team i. Probaly 4th orr even 5th place (WePo, CB, Shibsibs, CL, PC, too many strong competitors out there). Second team must be somewhere like 8th or 9th to get 3 spots, not impossible, but quite difficult too.

Okay, I'll bite and have to ask: what did she say about Yuna and Yuzuru? ;)

In short: they're (Bestemianova and Bobrin) responsible for his success. When she was in Japan, Japanese Federation asked her to help him. It was the year when he became Junior World Champion. He got problems with coaches, elements etc. And now they see the elements they offered to him in his programms.

This is beautiful! In fact, I insist that ALL of them do this now! Bestemianova needs to come out again and insist that S/B are the face of Russian skating (she basically said that already anyway...) because they are the second coming of B/B (techno!Prince Igor coming soon...and they will need bigger hair!). Then Kustarova comes out and declares I/Z the face of Russian skating because Elena is Frida Kahlo reincarnated as a skatah! And then Zhulin will claim that B/S are the face of Russian skating because only they can bring the dramz of Anna Karenina..and uh, the dramz of shot birds.:drama:

Snow63 wrote about Yuzuru, I'll add about Yuna.
Bestemianova: I deliberately want to announce Yuna Kim. I'm sure she became such a star thanks to us. Because 20 years ago we went to Korea on a tour. (Then she says that all Koreans were surprised.) So I assume that the girl who had just been born started to skater after seeing us.

Year... a little girl might have watched a show (and might have not) and this makes B. responsible for her success as well.

Well, back to dance. Now Russia has the Another Planet couple (SB) and has the Russian Face couple (SK) but we'll see Earth-born and non-blond Bobrova and Soloviev in the GPF.
I beg Zhulin and Kustarova don't join this epithet game.

Much as I'm alright with the ISU changing the tiebreaker rules as they did this season to accomodate the cancellation of TEB, IMO it's not a bad idea to keep in mind that B/S are in the GPF instead of S/K because of the change in formula. I'm not saying S/K are better, it's difficult to compare across GPs no matter how much the ISU wants to pretend otherwise, but it's also somewhat misleading to argue that B/S have proven clear superiority over anyone (apart from S/B) now. They were good at their events, just as S/K were good in their events and basically tied (also when you compare scores), a different formula would have S/K in the GPF. I think B/S absolutely deserve their spot (just as S/K would have deserved their spot) and it's not "unfair" or whatever since close calls like that happen every year, but it wasn't like S/K somehow "lost" the GPF spot because they skated badly.

Bobrova/Soloviev would have won tie-breaker with old rules too, wouldn't they? What are you talking about? :scratch2:

Sinitsina/Katsalapov: 162.21 + 167.40 = 329.61
Bobrova/Soloviev: 161.11 + 169.33 = 330.44

Oops, my bad. But I stand by my general point, they're basically tied. S/K had a bit of home ice advantage in Russia to boost their scores, while IMO NHK was in general an overscored event with the tech panel more generous than in the other GPs.

I agree with you that they're close, at least in scores. This is especially impressive considering both teams skated with in early start numbers at both GP events. I'm sure Zoueva's team techincians will force Sinitsina to skate their pattern over and over and over again, they also need a better timing, since it looks like Nikita skate in his own speed and doesn't really care about bits of tempo. My opinion of course, but their pattern is the limiting factor for them right now, it's weakest from top Russian teams.

Well, she is not the first one to criticize "Frida" in that way. I believe it was a British Eurosport commentator (maybe Nicky Slater??) who said at CoC that he didn't get the story from their performance and he had seen the movie. That perhaps in their dance Frida was more the inspiration rather than them telling the story.
I like it as a dance as well but I have a problem of seeing actual Frida there. I got a very different vibe from the movie as well.

- They look like heroes from fairytale.
but they doooooooooooo:luv17::o:

I agree. I think BS are the most solid of the top three. SK are doing well, much better than last year obviously, but they still have work to do to match a really polished team. IZ are also struggling, mainly with lost momentum, which is not something I would underestimate. Also, although I consider IZ a bit stronger than SK, their scores have been disappointing at both GP events.

what's so wrong with Stepukin having 2022 OGM? In my opinion it's very plausible - if they will keep getting better this fast. And plus, they're so beautiful too.

don't you think it's too soon to say that? At least. nothing wrong with that if that WILL actually happen, but it's 2015 :confused2:

Of course they will be, there is zero chance of them being injured for a kick off, they are too beautiful to ever be injured ;)

Let's see how they do in the Hunger games 2015 before we start getting carried away ;)

I predict they will be a close 4th in Russian Nationals to Ruslena who will be only get the 3rd spot through reputation PCS

The one think I like about Stepanova/Bukin is their consistency. I never worried about them when they're skating. Despite last season twizzles disaster, which was so interestingly explained by Tarasova, they were good back up team last season. I don't get these talks about how 'young' and 'perspective' they are, honestly, because both Ilinykh/Zhiganshin and Sinitsina/Katsalapov are not much older, but much more experiencive teams, they're lacking 'big amplitude' in their skating, and for me, they don't have 'it' in them. And the thing that I didn't like a single programm from them (even when they were in Juniors) is not helping too.
But I actually CAN see them as one of the top teams in the future, but they need bettern programms, that's for sure.
