2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

What exactly is an ugly tano? Is it bent like Tuktamysheva's or straight like Tsurskaya's?

Most people say bent tanos are ugly, so if you hear people discussing ugly tanos they mean a bent arm.

Me, I think perfectly straight tanos are ugly and kind of gently curved is ideal but to each their own :)

Sotskova's tano is like she was saluting an army officer, and it is indeed not pretty. I didn't notice any other skater's tano being ugly. Liza T's tano on her 2A is very pretty to me.

So it seems like beautiful tanos are an individual matter... Will be interesting then, if judges are really starting to deduct for "ugly" tanos - one person could get theoretically the best and the worst notes for it from a panel...

The skaters would be inclined to not risk it and stop doing tanos altogether in that case. It's only worth +0.5 GOE and isn't even a requirement for +3(though that might change with -5 +5 GOE system) so a deduction of 1-2 GOE simply because some judges don't like how it looks seems very harsh.

The exception is if the skaters notice that the judges actually do like their tanos but it still might be a risk just in case someone is at the world championship panel who does happen to have a differing opinion.

To be honest, I wouldn't be sad at all to see Medvedeva and Sotskova tanos go but I'd miss Shcherbakova's.

Most important ISU meetings usually hold during June, after ending a season. Three months of pointless discussions and speculations. You're welcome if you want it, but it's just waste of your time.

As for me, I'd like to see a limitation of the number of jumps with tanos for which you can get GOE bullets, because I started to hate it with Medvedeva and Sakhanovich, that was their second junior season. This nightmare was started exactly there and by them.

Doesn't Anna's tano looks just like Evgenia's? At least that's what I've seen, same bent arm at the elbow, like a helicopter. Her jumps really don't need it, she's a great jumper and they take away from that.

I'd like to see a limitation of the number of jumps withOUT tanos/rippons for which you can get positive GOE bullets..
they're just BORING........
really..... if you don't like tano/rippon you can watch 96% other skaters... USA, Canada, Japan.....

They're not.

The question is about esthetic look. When skaters like Medvedeva, Sakhanovich, Sotskova, Radionova, Shcherbakova etс are jumping with tanos - it looks ugly.

And yeah, Tsurskaya will be upset to hear this. I guess she thought her jumps are nice without any spoiled additional elements.

Yes, the style's the same but it looks much better to me. Likely because of the free arm position and less of a gap. Your mileage might vary...

Rippon's clearly my favorite arm position though and to be honest, a jump with no arm variation really makes me wonder if something's wrong with the skater and if they're injured or something. Ugly tanos are one thing but I really wouldn't take a normal jump over a rippon jump aesthetically, essentially ever.

for you. ;)
For me, most of them are beautiful and much more aesthetic and interesting than any ordinary jump with no arm variation at all....

Am I the only person in the world who actually likes Maria's tanos? 'Cause I do, I don't think they look like a helicopter at all! I find them rather elegant actually.

Although on the whole I like Rippons better, if you're gonna go for an arm up might as well do both, don't be half-hearted ;)

I'm fine with Maria's tanos. The problem is Maria's jumps are gorgeous as they are, and adding those tanos is only spoil the picture.

Judging by JGP Minsk SP, Stanislava 'Gubanova's destroyer' Konstantinova actually had the highest PCS.

Don't forget that Trusova got the highest PCS in the JGPF's SP.

I wonder will Konstantinova receive the highest PCS at JWC if miracle happens and she skates clean? [emoji848]

If she skate clean she should be up there because honestly her SS and TR is just superior to the rest of the field simply because she has more develop skating. PE and IN is where she lacking so if she keeps bombing her programs the others should have better PCS.

She has plenty of international experience, even in seniors, whereas that was Trusova's first competition. Trusova also isn't someone I'd consider a PCS beast, exactly.

28.40 -> 56.80 PCS really isn't very high.

You noticed what happened to Panenkova's PCS when she actually skated with all the big names at JGPF. I really would be surprised if she got the highest PCS.

Really not true. Transitions aren't on the same planet in comparison to Eteri skaters and her SS are quite weak. Every PCS category is actually her weakness. Her basic skating skills are well below even Trusova's who I definitely don't consider a skating skill beast in comparison to skaters like Kostornaia or Tarakanova.

But that was visible Samodurova and Panenkova are not so strong as the others. In Konstantinova's case I believe judges will see the others as snails, because Stanislava's speed is very high + mature look. She is also #30 in world rankings, while others are far behind. I expect to see highest PCS in case of clean skating. But anyway, with 32-36 TES she won't go anywhere.

True, but her PCS were constantly raising by ~2 points: 26.11 points for Brisbane SP, 27.94 - Minsk, 30.29 - JGPF. And Tarakanova's PCS show that SS are not properly reward in program components, you can see her SS score at JGPF, this is nonsense, if compare with the others.
