2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I thought it was just a three turn but regardless maybe she'd be better of trying to enter into the jump straight after the Charlotte. She's losing speed on the turn.

Nevermind, you're right. I didn't notice the curve before she launched into it. This is what happens when I'm trying to watch something while at work. :D

I can't be the only one who believes she needs work in that department.

She already worked well. Her previous SP was sensational and one of the best in the world to me. Power in her skating. Amazing transitions in and out. No one did as she did. But her current program is really overwhelmed. Poor girl can't stop. She has to move and move. I don't know about what her team thought. It's like a bet on maximum difficulty. And it's not really smart, especially in her first senior season. But... This is the Olympic season. So maybe they decided to go all-in.

I like Adelina's too but Sasha is OG.

She goes right at the boards like a boss into sick steps and a killer spin!

Amazing.

That's true. No one in Lombardia thread challenged Caro's 36 pcs score for a very bland program with uninspiring step sequence which can hardly be compared with what she showed in Bolero years ago. There was overall massive praize for Wakaba. I imagine the outcry if this cheesy program was skated by a Russian - Petrov had his share of W*TF after basically doing the same. And of course Alina is in the middle of criticism starting with the dress, then with not following the music, etc. etc.

Trust me, I'd be going ??? for anyone who used music like Petrov's, even Nicolas Nadeau and he's my absolute favourite. And I disagree that it was basically the same thing Wakaba did. I didn't love her program tbh, but the music is way less weird some I'm not surprised people reacted more to his.

Back on the topic of Russian ladies though, I really like Alina's dress. It's very pretty and it fits the theme and I think it suits her. I'm not sold on the program yet, don't love it or hate it. I'm sure it will improve as the season goes on, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops. Wouldn't call myself a fan of hers yet, but I could become one.

I googled with keywords "charlotte, dance position" and it gives me dance jobs in Charlotte, SC:rolleye:

Then I google image-d using"charlotte dance pose", I got all kinds of poses. Is charlotte a ballet move, or general dance move, or a figure skating move?

A Charlotte is not a dance pose. That sort of thing in ballet is called a penchee, although it is not identical.

Russian men's skating is so bad, that it has to remind about itself in the thread of Russian ladies! :laugh2:

Hahaha. I was just going to comment on Alina, but when I saw Petrov's program mentioned, I had to say something. I saw all these comments about his program, but I didn't get it until I actually watched it tonight.

Back on Russian ladies, I'm looking forward to seeing Alexandra Trusova at her next event. I really liked her short in Australia (even if it's a weird music choice age-wise) and of course I'm interested in seeing if she can get the quad rotated.

I have no idea what to say after watching Alina's short program today. I am very curious as to what her fans see that makes her stand out? I'm having a hard time identifying a passion in her movements but maybe I'm just missing it. I'm undecided so far on this program and hope she shows more character in the FS but the only memorable position that stays in my brain on first watch is that Charlotte Spiral and not really for good reasons.

I like her movements during the StepSeq and can see she has an abundance of talent in that regard but it feels a bit like wasting time to me after some point. I'm persuadable and I don't care about scores in the least...I'm just trying to figure out what this girl is all about. Technically she is a whiz even on the PCS aspect but for me...I'm having a hard time connecting. Please...someone...show me what I'm missing.

Coincidentally I watched this earlier today ;)

Is that Charlotte Spiral in the exact same spot of the music??

The first half of Alina's SP is masterful - every movement is choreographed perfectly to the music, down to the changes of position in the spin. The program and/or Alina really start to lose steam about halfway through that step sequence though, and then the second half of the program is a blur, in a bad way. Nothing stands out or seems to match the music particularly well. When she hits the jumps they are beautiful, but there's nothing deeper there during the second half of the program. It's a shame, because the first half is really, really choreographically effective.

She also needs more fierceness, but I assume that will happen with another outing or two. Still - make that second half memorable and beautiful, please!

I think it will improve over the season.
The important right now is the potential of the program.

As for me Alisa wasn't progressing much last 2 seasons, unfortunately. May be she should also move to Eteri?

Fedichkina really isn't doing well with Rukavicin, she needed to move years ago. Unfortunately this is a skater that will never make it now.

Is Nugumanova competing in Grand Prix this season?

She had to recover from a serious injury last year and now she is dealing with puberty. What do you want, a miracle? She skated a perfect SP just last week.

She is not going to go to Eteri. End of story. But to say she "will never make it now" is just laughable. Define "making it," first of all...

There are dozens (hundreds!) of girls with weaker prospects than Alisa in Russia but somehow she has become the punching bag for all the haters recently and I'm not quite sure why.

I believe Adelina does this move best, because she can hold the position for a long time, and her legs are 180 degrees straight.

Yes, in her gala at euros 2013 in particular, it was perfect  It is a shame we see more and more skaters - Ashley, Gracie, Alina - putting into their program without having good extension or a strong position.

So im guessing Russian national will be the first time Zagitova will compete against Medvedeva?

What? Are you from figure skating planet or? Alina is the silver medalist of Russian Nationals 2017, where she competed against Evgenia (gold medal). The next Russian Nationals should be a real fight. Like Radio/Tukt in 2015.
