2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

and that's one of the reasons there is so much hype around her - she already has beaten everyone in Russia except Medvedeva(who are in the league of her own)

I think Alina today beat the record of the first score in a senior competition. Also I think 218 is the all time third score among Russian ladies after Medvedeva and Sotnikova in Sochi. What a debut!

On a sad note my high expectations of Liza after what I saw in Sochi were shattered today. She looked kind of hopeless. Which makes the drama who is the girl #3 even more exciting. Pogorilaya, Radionova, Sotskova or Tuktamysheva? Or may be Tsurskaya comes back? Whoever she is she will have hard times now that it is clear for the judges who are Russia's #1 and #2. Objectively they all look weaker than the Canadians and Wakaba unless Anna gets back to her own senses and shows us the level of skating she had at last year CoR. Only then can we speculate that the podium sweep is possible. Looking at Liza today I think that all these 3A talks have no grounds behind them, alas.

The point is: will RusFed give her the chance? i don't think so. For some reason she has never been looked as a pride skater, and that's to me why she is feeling the pressure much more than the others: she knows that even with one minor mistake they will find a way to screw her.

At this point, I think it's probably better for Anna to not think about making the team or worry about her results. Instead, focus on having two epic programs with her signature styles and really perform to the audience with all her heart and emotions like she always does in exhibitions! This time, please be a fierce flamenco dancer and rise like a swan Anna!

Maria and Elena are backed up by the political power of CSKA that will definitely push either or both of them ahead of Anna in the Russian Nationals unless they mess up really bad, just like what they did last year. Anna's also constantly reminded of her failure by the media, the federation and the skating fans in Russia, which I find really mean and offensive. She missed the Test Skate due to an injury, and it seems that they already wrote her off.

Anyway, I'm really excited to see her live in both Skate Canada and Skate America and will try my best to cheer her up and show her how much she is loved! :luv17:

Overall, Kaetlyn has the top international score of the two. The thing about the Canadians is, they never put themselves out of contention. Kaetlyn's worst result in international comps. was a 4th place finish last season, and the same for Gabby. That's a far cry from 13th! Now that judges are recognizing Kaetlyn and Gabby for their qualities, it is no longer good enough to land jumps. You need to land with speed, power and execution. Anne's needs to work on all three, in addition to consistency.

Calm down...Tolstoj only stated a fact and did not say anything against Kaetlyn or Gabby. Why you become so agitated every single time that someone mentions that Anna had beaten the Canadians before? And Anna's PB for FS last season is 143.18, which is better than Gabby's 142.41 and Kaetlyn's 142.15. So yes, "Pogo at her best can match and even beat the canadians as she did at the GPF."

I get it that you're not Anna's fan, but her name is Anna Pogorilaya, not "Pojo" or "Anne" ...

i remember that after 2016 worlds americans was also very proud about ashley. american domination was assured and wagner was ready to challenge medvedeva next season. after one lucky worlds for canadians the same thing happens allover again.

It is unrealistic to think about the podium sweep for the Russian ladies. I once said Japanese girls would be very strong competitors this season, and Wakaba's performances at Lombardia just proved me right. And don't forget the Canadians.

As for Liza, I don't think she is hopeless. On the contrary, she is now in a much much better shape than last season, with much better programs. I will root for her till the end, for her big & effortless jumps are really rarely seen among those jumping little girls nowadays.

so saying that anna is able to beat canadians = bashing canadians? and we should expect an angry canadian mob in russian thread after saying this?
i was thinking that it's just a fact. anna had a more successful season than canadian ladies overall. there's a lot of points awarded for worlds, but even after her disastrous 13th place finish at worlds, she's still #2 in world rankings. and speaking about that canadians have a higher PB than anna, you probably didn't notice, but scores are different from competition to competition, and at worlds scores are usually bigger than scores at let's say GPF.

If you are referring to ISU points (as you referenced), again it's all about how you see it versus how others see it. Based on the 2016-17 season as a stand alone, and with the 2 actually competed head to head 3 times, KO has almost a 300 point lead over AP, in the ISU point calculation, just saying.
