Not sure if you remember Medvedeva at her first junior year, but Panenkova, Tarakanova, Trusova and Scherbakova are much better now. So if they progress the same way as Medvedeva did, they will catch up within two years. Obviously some of them won’t survive puberty or injuries, but there definitely will be at least one or two more, plus Zagitova, I don’t think Medvedeva will want to continue to fight if she doesn’t have to. The thing is, if Medvedeva wins the Olympics, her biggest earning potential will be within the four years after the Olympics. After four years there may be a different Olympic winner and her earning value will drop, so it would be silly not to use the opportunity.

I actually suspect he takes those girls for PR reasons. I mean, he is coaching, and it would be a big deal to have a student that does well, goes to GPs, maybe wins some senior medals and so on. While younger kids are more of a long term investment, those older girls could show some results reasonably soon, maybe next season.

Yes, in the first junior season Evgenia was unstable, moreover, she got to JWC 2014 only because of Sotskova's injury. Also, she lost to Proklova, which was replaced by Radio. And she was lucky there, because she was ahead of Miyahara just a bit. Both girls did a mistake in the free program... But then, in the next season, she started to impress me. At first time I didn't get her tanos, but that was okay. She skated very well. Since then, she always won gold medals (except Nationals and RC16), wherever she participated. Three seasons in a row. It says something about her mentality and strong character.

Also, don't forget about Japanese skaters, and about the rising South Korea's ladies skating. Panenkova, Gulyakova and Tarakanova seems to me already went through puberty. Others - didn't. And it's unclear who will survive, maybe no one. Wakaba is in perfect shape. She will skate only better, also many and many very talented Japanese skaters will appear on the ice. It would be not smart to leave Alina alone, at least for the first time after the Olympics.

Well Serafima isn't all that popular: she said in the past that she got many silver and bronze medals at minor competitions in Russia (but extremely difficult competitions considering the depth of the russian ladies) but the media only cared about the gold medalist, so nobody knew what she did.

This season RusFed made it clear that Serafima didn't have any chance to even compete in some seniors b event to grab a spot for the GP.

Plushy also understand that at first you have to work with these type of skaters, and if he manages to restore Sima's jumps and confidence, she was a great skater 2-3 years ago so she has the potential to compete for medals.

I'd also like to think that he learned something from Mishin because he used to say that russians should learn from the japanese, americans and canadians to work even with weak skaters and make them better instead of picking only the best and giving up with the rest.

On the background of Trusova and Panenkova - yes, but I guess Tarakanova is the fastest skater in her group, hard to say. Alena is a more tender skater, she looks so sweet, all her movements and face expressions are joy to watch. I agree, that could be the second the greatest evil which ever could be, if she will lose her spot in Gdansk.

Because what Plushy can get right now: basically either kids or skaters like Sima. Its not like someone like Medvedeva / Pogo / Radio / Tukt will move to a new coach who still needs to prove himself as a coach. Young kids may be talented, but in the best case they will perform well in juniors, which nobody cares about. Sima technically could have a chance for GP next year, same as Adelina, despite not being able to do it this year. That would be some result to show already.

Plushy did not invite either Adelaine or Sima to his school, they wanted to come to him. But you are right this is good for Plushenko and his academy. He said some months ago he didn't decide he will train foreign skaters or not but he had offers. (And in the past he had offers from Japan and China to coach there.)It seems he doesn't want it. I'm sure in next season he will have more senior and talented junior students. The Russian media made a negative campaigne with the price of school. But many skaters ( or parents) will be notified they can train there if they are talented.
