2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I also thought at this possibility, that changing the combo in the short into a 3lz3t might affect further her confidence and therefore make a mistake in the free. But it depends how the coaching team will introduce the change, I guess.
I will also opt for a change in the short at the Europeans as this is the last competition where they can experiment and see what works or not.

What's with your memory? Not with only yours but everybody's? [emoji848]

At her first two appearings - test skates and Lombardia, she didn't have any problems with combo but 2A. Then, they changed her axel's entry, and she started to fall on combo. They made an easier entry on axel, now you suggest to make an easier combo, what's next? Jump doubles? Maybe this will help? Really, what a nonsense. No need to change anything, and her SP at Nationals shows she gained some consistency, except messy flip.

I'm sure if not that entry on 2A at the beginning of the season, she would skate her SP without mistakes. But the test skates and Lombardia somehow broke her consistency in the short program. But as I said, at Russian Nationals it looked like she almost recovered of that.

I think it's really hard to say, what can be done to lower Alina's level of anxiety/stress. It is a problem because it attacks her physically and sometimes can even cause a serious meltdown. Luckily it happens rarely, but it does. Her failures in Lublana (FS last season) and Grenoble (SP this season) looked pretty much identical - weak, low jumps resulting in series of massive underrotations. During the Nats she started telling about "3 levels of stress that always accompany her", that her "legs are trembling" and that she "doesn't feel her muscles" before the SP combo, even during trainings.
It just looks like her technical genius allows her to usually (almost always) overcome this issue, but still it looks ominous- the Olympic tournament is a really stressful event.

If I was the Russian Fed, I think that for the team competition I would definitely want Evgenia skating SP and Alina doing the FS, since she almost never falters there. I wonder if it's just because she's skated it for longer or simply the SP is too much

I think the FS is very comfortable for Alina now, she has great muscle memory for it. So when she’s on, she’s ON.

Is the Russian team strategy likely to be Evgenia and Alina both doing a program? When do they announce this?

It turned out to be super smart, and... I didn't like it at first.:hslap:
I even don't want to think where Alina would be now without her Red Balerina program...

They also are streaming the competition on the 15th as well as the one on 26th which is great news for me personally.
Why? What so great about competition on the 15th? Scherbakova participation on the 13th I can understand, but 15th one.. 0_0

There also is listed on 24-26 Jan Russian Junior Nationals. So, it was really a sign at the last Russian Cup stage.
Did you meant that in the last year this competition was streamed by 38 studio as well? I suppose there wouldn't be any alternative translations except this one this time too?

Nope. Last Juniors weren't streamed at all, because it was forbidden, and they didn't care about organization of their own live stream. This time, that studio 38 was allowed to broadcast the last stage of Russian Cup (previous four were streamed on TheFSRussia), it probably means they got accreditation for broadcating of official events. For now, considering all information which we can get, a live stream probably will be on studio 39 channel or on TheFSRussia channel (there is right now the live stream of synchro skating, btw).

So... Or here, or there, or nowhere.

Meanwhile, links for the Cup of Shcherbakova, I mean, Cup of Moscow, were appeared:
Day 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhsZ2pYMlCI
Day 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IslcyQoynWI

Because she admits that the combo in the short is an issue now, a mental one. She said that even in training she started to make mistakes to this combo because of fear.... it's not just an error which can happen to anyone.... that's why it's better or to tackle the mental issue, but it's really hard and under much more pressure she could collapse totally or to change the combo.
The messy flip was at the GPF and my theory is that this mistake happened because she focused too much on the combo, she invested too much mental energy not to make a mistake there and as a consequence she messed the flip. At the Nationals she had again trouble with the combo in the short.
It's much more hard to jump that combo in the short, where there is no place for a mistake.... in the free, besides the fact that she has more experience with it, she can add the 3lo to the second 3lz. She did that in the past.
I think she should play safe with the short and show clean skating (even with lower tech base value)... she will not win with the short, but she can lose everything with it. I would change the combo in the short if she can do 3lz3t consistently (and she is doing that during the galas, so I suppose there isn't a problem), unless this change will affect her consistency in the free program, but European Championship is the only place where she can try this option.

Yeah, in the last season she pretty often was doing mistakes on her first lutz in the free program, and had to jump a combo with the second one.

Anyway, changing the combo to tackle her second mental issue after axel's entry is not a good decision, because as if she jumps and practice 3Lz+3T regularly (didn't see her jumps on the galas, so don't know). Of course she can jump it, but when you have the same combo 3Lz+3Lo in both programs, you definitely work hard only on that, your body used to do that, and suggesting to jump a combo which she doesn't even practice except galas or practice it much less often, than 3Lz+3Lo? It's also not a good option.

Well, it's clear that what she has right now doesn't work as it should and something has to be done. Ideally, she and the coaching team should find the solution to her fear, but overcoming fears is really hard and it takes time.

I think at Russian Nationals we saw a good sign. [emoji848] If she finally will skate her SP clean at Euros, I guess it seals the deal. If not - they definitely will change something at the Olys.

But don't even dare during the Euros to use your magical tarot cards!

Ah, right. Good that you asked. Simply enough, the reason's Ksenia Melkumova(8 yo). The jumps are a disaster but the artistry and especially skating skills are out of this world good.

This step sequence is worth checking out of you're curious.

Beautiful and incredible little angel :love::love:
Truly fantastic. I really hope she gets her jumps in order eventually.

The step sequence is a planned lvl 4 content-wise. In fact, comparing to Kaori's FS step sequence for instance, Melkumova has about 3 times as many difficult steps, well beyond the requirements.

Planned:

LBI rocker
LFI rocker
LBI counter
LFI choctaw
LBO choctaw
LFO rocker
LBO counter
LF(ccw) twizzle 3.5
Toe steps
RFI bracket
