the podium is fine I guess, russians respect Carolina, the most respected foreign female skater in russia actually.

I'm both excited and worried, the gala in nats made me realise that she COULD fall (though I'm surprised by how fast she gets up from it) I have been comforting myself that she is not used to jumping 3Lz3T in her SP and no practice means no perfect, but I'm still anxious for her.
Here's her photo with Ivan Righini. But he was at opening ceremony. Maybe Sonya was there? I need to rewatch it. [emoji848]

I remember when Radionova lost to Medvedeva during Medvedeva's first Europeans and how she reacted. Quite different.

Calling It now, Alina will win in Pyeongchang, and Med will either take silver or pull a Pogorilaya. If you think ab It, the past 3 Europeans silver medalists have all not had good follow up competitions, but we’ll see. Kudos to Zhenya for being so gracious. As for Carolina... she needs to know how good she is! She made one mistake and lost all her confidence. Hope she can find it in Korea!

Oly is very different from other competitions, and predictions don't work that way.
If you like to talk about the trend of Euro medalists, I'd like to tell you that Euro champion at Oly season has failed to medal at Oly since 1992, with the exception of Irina Slutskaya, who got bronze in 06 Oly.
I agree that Olys are very unpredictable to call — a lot of the winners/placements have been surprises. (As opposed to Worlds, where I think it's more common that the expected happens.) OG energy is just different.
I think Alina has more potential to get hit with nerves than Evgenia. But I also think both her programs have more potential to capture the attentions of the casual viewers who only watch figure skating at the Olympics. Evgenia's programs are polished, but Alina's have more of the "it" factor. Julia was "the girl in the red dress," and Alina could very easily become iconic as "the red ballerina."

... Or maybe all the skaters are individuals, react to silver at Europeans in a different way, have different competition, different potential by themselves and opponents in relation to their Europeans performance and the sample size isn't large enough for an event like this happening only every 4 years? ... What a waste of time, really.

I wasn't being serious though. It was the equivalent of winking and saying Adelina. Nobody knows who will win in 3 weeks but I hope we see great skating.
Watch out Zagitova, you will feel the wrath of Eteri for beating out Medvedeveda. They were visibly upset in the Kiss And Cry. After watching Medvedeveda skate, she was upset after her skate and it seemed she was reluctant to hug when she got if the ice. I wouldn't want to be Zagitova when they get back on the ice to practice. This power struggle might seep into the training for the Olympics, not for the better but for the worst.

Honestly I'm not worried about Medvedeva. It's her first competition back from injury and if she isn't going to be perfect I prefer it here vs at the Olympics. In some ways this might be good for her- so whatever, Alina beat her- now move forward without worrying about it. She was going to lose a competition at some point, I still say she will be flawless in Korea.

It's a bit disappointing to see how biased Eteri was there. Hopefully it won't cause friction between them in the future in the case Alina starts consistently beating Medvedeva.Any doubts yet about Alina's momentum and where Eteri's heart lies after today?

I see it in a different way. It's Evgenia who needs help and support atm and that's why Eteri gave her all support she could.
Well, I think Eteri is a professional and hopefully she learned from her experience with Yulia/Evgenia. I agree she seems to favor Medvedeva, but she's not their only coach. Daniil and Alina seem to have a great relationship, and he seems very supportive. I loved seeing his initial surprise turn into genuine happiness at her scores in the short, whereas Dudakov had a more inscrutable reaction. It made me really like Daniil, since he seems to be right in Alina's corner, and she needs that too.
