2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

My heart is also with Alina in this situation. I just imagine how difficult it is to know that her main coach and role-model has a clear preference and that even the crowds in Russia would have preferred Evgenia to win. I watched the small medals' ceremony and someone from the public congratulated only Evgenia telling that she was the best or something similar. I think it's rude. It's not Alina's fault that this time she was better and won. Evgenia had proven fair-play and her fans should do the same.
do you have a link to the small medal ceremony?

But in general fans are fans, their have the right to voice their opinion. (ofcourse any insult are unacceptable)

Now I'm afraid that Alina will win the OGM and retire :eeking:... I'd rather want her to continue and progress.
Plus I think that Evgenia deserves that OGM more as the dominant lady in the last couple of years.

I too am afraid of this scenario, and fear if such should happen it will be somewhat like what we experienced with Baiul in 1994. If Baiul wouldn’t have won in 1994, I do believe she would have continued competing at least until 1996. How wonderful would it have been to see Baiul compete against Kwan. I very much hope we all get to see Zagitova mature as an artistic, and still technically competitive, skater.

At the same time, the future is uncertain. She could very well become injured, have trouble with her training environment, or any other situation...any of which could make it very difficult to qualify for another Olympics.

If she does win in Korea, great. I just hope she continues on for many seasons after.

i'm so tired of seeing all those "preferred skater" theories about Eteri, can you show me any video to see what are you even talking about? i haven't seen anything controversial yet about her relationship with Alina/Evgenia

It's ok to prefer one person over another. In this situation, at a mayor competition, where Eteri was coaching and representing two girls, she should have kept her emotions under control. Anyone could see how upset she was when Zhenya got silver. Zhenya was also visibly upset. My heart went out to Alina, knowing that she wasn't the favourite in Eteri's eyes and while Zhenya was being comforted by Eteri, where was Alina, by herself. This does not make Eteri a bad person but a despicable coach.

Again, you show your emotion when something big happens. And yesterday that was big (ending evgenias winning streak, olympic gold for evgenia not anymore 100% sure). So you can not control your emotion when something like that happened.

No matter what Eteri does, people read into it what they want and create fanfiction scenarios. Eteri is not perfect by any means, but I've never seen so much armchair analysis and baseless speculation over every single move she makes...or the coat she wears on a particular day...etc. She wasn't in the k'n'c with someone, therefore she must hate them. But then she didn't sit in the k'n'c with Evgenia after her SP and she's supposed to be her favorite. What could it possibly mean? :drama:

I'm pretty sure if Eteri didn't seat near Evgenia after FS, she would be blaimed in abandoning her.

What an amazing ex from Zhenya! So free, emotional and strong, it's like a scream of relief, anger and commitment to the sport put together in one skate. I read this performance as "missed you so much, I'm happy that I came back, mad and disappointed that I lost yet determined for the future.". Bravo! :clapper:

lyrics at 1:04 'will I be lying like a stone or shine like a star?'

Probably Evgenia was thinking about it during her injury.

It is from Vogue. And i have to say Eteri's daughter is growing into a super beautiful girl, thumbs up if you agree

I didn't know it is from Vouge. But I thought it looks pretty much like on of the Karl Lagerfeld's photos

Those journalists and armchair experts should be really annoying, so that... https://youtu.be/1_m5Bmq6jfE?t=4m21s

"I'm gonna bite something off you!"

At the end of this video... there wasn't any insult, but anyway it looked rude in my eyes.
It was so rude. I don't even want to know what Alina must have felt... :hopelessness:
'Regular' fans are regular fans, but to be an accredited Russian journalist and slam such disrespectful statement right in front the new Russian European champion and international auditorium... If she really felt, she had to share with the world everybody loves Zhenya and she is the best, she could at least mention Alina's success in a briefly way.
It was so immature and tactless, that even the host sounded embarassed. :slink:

Yes, very tactless.... and even that photographer M. Sharov posted some comments that he is very disappointed with the results and some bad comments towards Alina.

OMG, Sharov too? He's like the nicest guy ever.

He said:
В праве огорчаться, когда те, за кого я особенно сильно болею, терпят поражения или лишаются медали в пользу того, кто полностью слил произвольную программу?

Can i be disappointed, when someone, who i am rooting for, loosing medals to those, who completly failed their FS?
And it wasn't Alina who failed her FS.
