2017-18 State of Russian Ladies skating

I'm thinking that's what it is. Eteri has been building this tower with Evgenia for the past two and a half years. This was supposed to be her coronation...and then (seemingly) out of nowhere Alina comes in and topples the tower. I'm sure Eteri wants both of them to be successful but it feels like this was supposed to be Evgenia's turn and this was supposed to be her medal. At this rate, if Alina skates cleanly in the FS there is no way Evgenia can beat her.

Must be pretty sad. I'm sure Eteri knew one of her students would walk away with gold here but I'd bet she figured it would be Evgenia. Whoever wins, I'm sure she'll be happy. But I do get the sense that Alina finishing 2nd won't sting as much as Evgenia finishing 2nd.

Yes I agree that they thought Evgenia had it in the bag after her sp score.

Overall, I believe Eteri and her team didn’t think Alina’s pcs would get as high as it has at this point in the year, so even she couldn’t contain her surprise when Alina smashed the newly set sp WR.

Alina has momentum and is in fine form. I am glad she doesn't go last. Zhenya can handle better.

What ever happened to Radionova? I have not been here in almost a year and have lost track of some things.

I feel that this is Med's best shot for OGM, so I hope she can grab it. Zagitova will be 19 in 2022, still below the age limit that Eteri fixed for girl's competitive form, but Medvedeva will certainly pass her peak and cannot even get to the team event, due to the insane depth of Russian ladies.

What competition are you talking about? Sounds awesome. Videos please~~
Yeah I saw that! Glad Anna is back to shape. But without her quads I think Alina will have the PCS cushion because she would be in seniors way longer like Evgenia has now. What set Alina apart from Evgenia was the huge difference in tech and more effortless jumps. I think Trusova's tech will make her unbeatable if clean but the 4T fall looked SO painful I hope she doesn't burn out early. Scherbakova pre-injury would have had insane tech too (huge enough to challenge even with senior PCS cushion for Alina). I love that these girls have insane jumps and are pushing the boundaries, and yes skaters get injured for much less (Anna broke her leg falling one 3Lo of all things). But it looks like so much stress on the body to do all the quads, especially since they don't have the power like the men to do to help them, and even with the men you see them burning out.

I don’t think it will be either of them in 2022. There is so many juniors that if Medvedeva or Zagitova are still around in 2022, by then they will be like Tuktamysheva now - pushed down by a wave of new skaters. Maybe one of the Trusova, Scherbakova, Tarakanova, Panenkova, Kostornaya..., or maybe someone we haven’t heard of yet. I mean, who heard about Zagitova four years ago? It is possible that the 2022 girl is still not eligible for juniors.

International competitions:
Alina:
Fall: CoC, IdF
Hand down but not fall: IdF and Lombardia
All in SP

Evgenia's
Fall: Ondrej Nepal (FS), CoR (SP), SkAm (FS), Euros (FS)

I didn't count step outs/turnouts because I don't remember Evgenia's from that season, too many seasons ago!
But overall, in terms of falls, Evgenia fell more her first season (3 times) where as Alina fell once then had a hand down twice. I think because Alina messed up on just SP, it looked like it was a lot more. Overall Alina had a more consistent first season, but both of them were widely consistent compared to the rest.

Ok so then you are right!
In my head is Evgenia the consistent rock who never fell

:jaw:

Another thing is, if you were Tutberidze - would you let her do this day before the most important skate in her life?
Those hips and knees are screaming to me through the screen... :scard7:
3-3-3 is a standart training layout for her girls. And who said that Eteri told Alina to do that combo? Should Eteri ran on the ice shouting loudly to prevent Alina from doing that combo or what?

It was not 3-3-3, but 3-3-3-3-3.
Eteri has so much authority over Alina, that she doesn't need to scream or run on the ice - simple explanation that there are 364 days in a year for showing off, so on 365th we rather take care of our joints and muscles day before quadrennial Olympic performance, would probably do.

Okay, imagine that you are Eteri and Alina started her 3-3-3 but didn't stop and went for additional -3-3. Your actions?

Obviously, the actions should have taken place before the training. Alina would certainly fall into line.

after Adelina sotnikova and Yulia lipnitskaya had to retire Young it is hard to imagine that evgenia medvedeva or Alina zagitova would be competing in the 2022 Olympics. These Russian girls work and train so hard at a young age their diet is so strict that it takes a lot out of them.

Hoping that all three Russian girls perform splendidly tonight. Their country needs them to go 1 - 2.

This can backfire. Alina will know that it isn't an ordinary training, OGM is at stake and pressure will get her. Haters will write that you did it to Alina on purpose, game over. Try again.
