Way to go, Mirai!!! I'm so thrilled for her performance, her fierceness, her persistence, her unstoppable-ness!
She got several jumps reviewed (not that beautiful 3A, though, with +1.57 GOE!!!) ... but the tech panel ruled everything clean. So wonderful.

Aren’t Mirai’s parents supposed to be in Pyeongchang right now? Local news just ran a piece from their restaurant, and apparently they were open tonight and the mom said she was too nervous to watch. 
Maybe they’ll only go in person for the individual event. But if they're going to be open, maybe I’ll run in for a Mirai Nagasu Roll lol...if that’s even a real thing (really should be).

Honestly, Kaori just scored a 142 a few weeks ago. That performance was totally unexpected. I think the triple axel rattled her.
I wonder if Wakaba will look at this and decided she's going for her own 3A next season. Or maybe even at Worlds.
It's not like she pulled a Tanaka out there. She recovered well after her first missed combo, and it was a pretty good performance for someone their major senior competition debut.
The bigger issue is that you all didn't think Mirai had a >137 in her.
Was Kaori's 142 at Japanese nationals? I can't remember what her last international score was.

I said she would be about 140 clean. She got a down grade on a spin and her combo didn’t get the GoEs. So I think she would’ve gotten that 140.I think Mirai definately has >137 potential for the free. Gracie got a big score boost in the individual ladies competition in Sochi. Both Bradie and Mirai should get boosting in the FS.
I just loved her huge smile at the end of that performance!

Only injury would prevent OAR from securing the top two podium spots, but the bronze is a free-for-all. Mirai's experience may prove as valuable as her triple axel.

Already expressed how I felt about Mirai’s performance in the team thread, but doesn’t hurt to repeat. I am so damn proud of and happy for Mirai for her performance!!! It was everything I’d hoped for and more, as she not only skated cleanly under pressure and greatly contributed to the Oly team medal, but she also made history for US w her triple axel. Way to go Mirai, and much deserved!

I don't think Bronze is a free-for-all...
The Canadians, even though I personally don't enjoy them at all, are no joke. If either Evgenia and Alina screw up, that gold is as good as theirs. And the judges love to reward Miyahara's...economy-sized jumps as well as Kostner's...elegant...uh...sitting down on the ice. Unfortunately, I can see the judges putting them above Mirai if all go clean. What Mirai needs to do is make her case undeniable. A second 3A in the FS would be nice, but I feel like that's asking too much.

Regardless, I think you're vastly overestimating their potential here, especially in light of team event performance. Though of course, this isn't the thread to discuss that...

Yeah, major typo. Hey, I mean I agree. Sometimes I feel crazy when in the past I'm like...uh the Canadians ladies are not really all that...special? But then the scores come out and then I'm like, well okay then. I guess I'm blind. That's why I don't want to underestimate them again, and especially not at the Olympics.
