Not sure why you can't. The Parsons had the better season this year, but it's likely to come down to two teams with Junior World Champion gold, Junior World Champion silver, 5 Junior World appearances each, and @11 JGP medals each. Their personal best scores are one point apart, and are #22 and #24 on the all-time scoring list. They've been trading placements for at least 5 years now. At the very least, one should imagine it will happen again.

The Parsons have the tougher GP draw (at Rostelecom with 5 of the top eleven teams in the World). McNamara & Carpenter have Cup of China (with three).

But I don't this will come down to the GP.

I think there's a good chance the Parsons and McNamara & Carpenter will compete head-to-head first, either at the Lake Placid International or the U.S. Classic. And I don't think USFSA will rush to announce. Both teams are on the replacement list. The Parsons are either at the top or right behind Coomes & Buckland. McNamara & Carpenter are next. USFSA can wait and see if one of them can win a placement elsewhere.

Considering the momentum that the Parsons are carrying into this season, my best guess would be that they will end up the host pick.

It is the most likely scenario at this point in time if neither can pick up an event before a decision is made.

(I gotta say, though, I think Lorraine has the potential for a mean Latin SD).

Meanwhile . . . who do we think is likely to get the dance host spot at Rostelecom?

Popova & Mozgov have the highest SB. (Though they didn't go to Russian Nationals).
Evdokimova & Bazin have the highest placement from Russian Nationals & the next highest SB. (They had the host spot last season).
Davankova & Shibnev had the next highest placement at Russian Nationals. (About 12 points behind E&B)

Bazin might leave his current partner for Annabelle Morozov!

Russian federation shouldve invuted p/m to Russian nationals! What a snub!!!

I am pretty much disappointed at the current state of Russian ice dance. Will Illynik retire too?

She wants to continue, but I can't imagine who she would skate with.
Also, being in such bad shape last season won't help

TBH, I'm more curious to know why that happened. In her first two seasons with Kustorova, she was fighting fit, I would have thought with the move to Igor, she would be even more motivated. But knowing Lena, we'll never know the true goings on. It must have been very discouraging to have everyone telling you there is no hope for her team, then looking out and also seeing there is practically no one left to skate with.

It doesn't take a genius to work it out, she was unhappy, and food is plentiful and comforting!

If that is the case, in its entirety, she seems more of a fragile personality than this diva that persons make her out to be. Oh well.

It can't just be food. Michael Phelps ate 10,000 calories a day when he was still competing and is still slim. She would also have had to regularly skip training.

I think you will find that a female skater is not burning anything like the number of calories as a male swimmer.
I'd expect the average female skater to be burning between 2500 and 3500 per day max!

This is an assumption regarding the private life of an athlete which, to me, is inappropriate. We have no idea why the partnership did not work out, who is to blame, whether it she lacked motivation / a medical problem / any other personal thing. All we have is gossip. We are not with them at the rink or at their home. We have no idea if she/he was unhappy or not. Making assumptions that she stooped working and started to overeat, to me, it's offending.
No wonder female skaters develop eating disorders....

I don't know what happened, but it's not right to blame Illynik alone. They need 2 people to form a team.

1 hour of butterfly, at a moderate pace, so not even pushing for the speed & endurance Phelps requires: c 780 calories

1 hour of ice skating: c 350 calories

There have never been comments from anyone in Kustarova's camp or from Igor to suggest that she wasn't showing up to training.

I don't think it was simply an overeating issue. Lena knew what was at stake here. But it's rather telling that everyone would simply assume the worst of her. She may have been depressed as well, and we all should be aware that many anti-depressants lead to weight gain. In fact because of this many don't take their meds. There could also have been injuries and illnesses. It could also have been that in trying to build muscle mass and strength Lena also got too big for Ruslan to handle since it appears to me that he's been struggling with a back issue for some time. We seem to forget how many times they had botched lifts even when she was at her smallest. As she hinted to a couple of seasons there just seemed to be an impasse that they together as a unit couldn't get over.

I am simply grateful that we got to see Carmen and Frida and she at least once became RN champion, I hope against hope that she's able to find a more suitable partner going forwards. If, she desires to continue. The lack of info is killer though. Ugh!!!

Some nice news: Ksenia Monko & Kirill Khaliavin got married today! Congratulations

Hopefully that means that he and Hurtado are planning on leaving Zhulin (no idea why they are still in Russia when they can go anywhere to train). Ksenia can follow him abroad, like Tkachenko's wife. Go now!
