This is probably just me, but I don't get these kinds of statements. At all. It just doesn't make sense to saddle the entire russian ID as a school without understanding of the current code of points. Also, it feels like people judge anything that comes from B/S or S/B far more harshly than what the rest of the russian camp presents, coming with a talk of potential for the next quad, potential for whatever years down the road, and then keep on hammering about the current team's hard work and mild success, which is better than no success at all.

Also, I think it's interesting you talk about G/P as an example of attention to detail in their choreography, yet they barely scored over S/B, and lost to B/S at worlds - so, how does this kind of attention to detail translate into points earned at competition?
 
It would translate into points in their Choreography and Interpretation marks. Other than that, nothing. I think some fans are only focused on how a program looks and makes them feel. If they like the music. Is it different than the other teams. There is nothing wrong with that but it certainly is not what makes a great ice dance team and has nothing to do with the objective quality of the teams skating. Unfortunately in ID it is much harder to discern GOE's , difficulty of transitions, skating skills etc if you are not well educated in what good skating is which is usually from being involved somehow in the ID world. This is not a slight to fans but is an explanation as to why so many people are surprised at marks when they think it is such an appealing program. It is what makes ID sometimes a tough sport to sell.

The Russian hatred of ijs is expressed in the comments and beleifs of kustarova and zhulin who say all levels are fake and are manipulated to favor the more popular teams and powerful coaches.

If his teams always début in November, how come B/S competed in Bratislava which is in September this season and last season?

Once again sweeping generalizations from gymers with no factual basis

I agree. That stopped them in their tracks, which is a real shame. Who knows how last season could have turned out after Worlds success. I find the current FD has already improved from test skates over CoR and I seriously enjoyed it at Nepela. They're honest about their mistakes and things they need to sort out, which is the right attitude to get that done. They are determined, especially as it is their last season, and they still have the potential to be on any of the big podiums. The only thing that worries me a little bit is the SD, which I'd hoped had different music to it.
I admit, competition will be fierce, but apart from the godlike (in the eyes of the judges) V/M, all other teams have their moments of weakness. I keep my fingers firmly crossed. :party:

You know what I would like? Just one season or even off-season without any Russian ice dance drama. We can talk ad nauseam about what the Russian coaches should change in their coaching approach, but this constant breaking up/reteaming/switching coaches won`t help getting Russian ice dance back where it once was.
 
Elena, do not start with this behaviour again and sabotage yourself. This is exactly why she didn't last training in the U.S.
 
I guess we can go back to trashing Kustarova’s choreography and we can now start singing praises about Gorshkov
 
Remember this is why Zhulin kicked I/K to the curb back in 2011 he said they had terrible work habits. People like to talk about Nikita being the problem with that team but they both were at fault and it seems neither of them has learned anything over the years.

Zhulin didn't kick them out, they left - partially the federation told them to after Worlds, partially pressure from parents who didn't think they were progressing far enough with him. Maybe they weren't working enough, but Zhulin was also coming under a lot of criticism back then for spending too much time working on his tv shows and not enough time with his pupils. Nikita said they would be left alone often and had to work out things like lifts from youtube videos. Maybe that was an OK tactic to take with more experienced teams like P/B, but not with kids only just coming up from juniors. And of you don't get taught the discipline at the start, it's hard to turn around habits later in life. Zhulin only started complaining about them once he'd been dragged in the press first.

I have no doubt that Elena may have been slacking off, but tbh Kustarova's never been one to shy away from spinning her side of things in the press - and she used to indulge Elena all the time - so there's probably more to this than just what she's said. Going to Gorshkov will either make or break I/S, because he has a big reputation as a hard taskmaster.
 
I don't even know what to say at this point, to be honest. How many times did Elena sought changes in these last years, and how many times did it pay off?

On another note, I want to see who's going to start trash talking Kustarova in here. ;)
 
At least she stormed off to Gorshkov, not to a Caribbean vacation or something. Maybe in another week she will storm back to Kustarova. Ilinykh and Katsalapov are a lot of different things, but both seem to not be quitters....
And let's be honest, not a lot of people have a lot of nice things to say about Kustarova...
 
So when did Kustarova publicly question the work ethic of Bobrova and Soloviev, Monko and Khaliavin, Zlobina and Sitnikov and everyone else who has left them? Even with Yanovskaya, they kept quiet (it was Mozgov who trashed her)

Also, I read in this same thread people talking about how better off Bobrova and Soloviev would be had they stayed with Kustarova - when she was still coaching Elena. And when the test skates came around there was A LOT of praise towards Kustarova and her programs, and suddenly Goshkov is the light of our lives now that he's received the gift of coaching I/S.

Get real people. Get. Real.
 
I may be wrong, but what they presented at test skates would indicate that they have been working and probably were working too hard. Even S/K did not show up to test skates in their first season together. Also, if the other rumblings are to be believed, they have left Kustarova for some time now, so things simply may not have been going as smoothly as I/S may have liked within Kustarova's camp. It may be that the atmoshere in and around the camp just isn't conducive to good work there, for them. Maybe they need some space? Maybe her relationship with Kustarova and Alexeeva was becoming too tense? It might be best to wait for Lena and Anton's interpretation of things rather than jumping to conclusions. IMHO, of course.
