2017 CS US International Classic Ladies FS

As for Marin, I think her PCS should've been a little lower, but the TES seemed right. Also, it seems that she collapsed when she got off the ice, but I saw a glimpse of her walking while Mirai was heading to the Kiss and Cry so I hope she's okay now.

She collasped! Oh no! The have to do something about this altitude! Suggest the skaters come a week early so their bodies can acclimate. I'm proud of her putting out the performance she did when she was suffering from altitude sickness. It's no joke! The adrenaline pushed her until the end.

This this weekend we got:

Shoma scored a personal best and landed 5ish quads.
Max landed his 4T in both his SP and FS.
Nathan lands a 4Lo for the first time.
Mirai lands two 3A and one clean.
Both the JW gold and silver win their first senior competitions.

The season has started with a bang! Did I miss anything?

Trusova becomes the second woman after Ando to land a quad (ur'd, but so was Ando's)

Sure, but Alina had 67.52 without having to deal with high altitudes, and Wakaba had 68.92 for putting out the best FS this season imho so...

It will be interesting to see how everything get recalibrated and come back down to earth by GP...

I look at these scores as a measage to each US lady here for the season. For Karen it's, watch those combos and gain consistency. With Mirai, "yes you have a 3A. Not forget about the rest of your jumps!"

But with Mariah, I'm concerned. She wasn't that bad, IMO. But her program got a PCS of 55. I'll have to watch it again to see what was so bad.

Can't forget my juniors! She gets another shot next weekend! Go Trusova!

I'm actually surprised at how they really went after the girls here for their URs, nice job judges!

Fun facts - according to Wikipedia, the tech specialist here is a former coach of Bradie Tennell. The assistant tech specialist is American. The tech controller is from Japan.

No complaints from me. A tough tech panel is a gift to skaters at these early competitions.

I don't agree with that UR call on the Salchow for Mirai and I've checked it in slo-mo. She came down sideways and dead halt on the landing but not more than 1/4 short. Second 3Toe would need better video quality to know for sure but seems like it may have been at the 1/4 and they deducted for the skid on the landing.

It's the truth! If you get a soft panel, you won't work on the things you need to work on. Now these ladies have a heads up before the season really starts. What's good for them both is their going to JO in a few weeks with just their FS. Now they can focus on cleaning up these carrots before the GP starts.

Nathan makes history again ... he's the first man who's landed 5 different quadruple jumps in competition. Not all in the same program/outing, but he's the first.

I'm still angry with his trolling, but still super proud of him.

I don't know a ton about skating, but from the clip I saw....the height of Mirai's 3A was astonishing. I truly hope she has a successful season and a trip to the olympics.

I look forward to seeing the full programs of all the skaters.

Gee, after the short I thought Mirai had the Ur's done with. But both she and Chen had entirely too many in the FS.

I love Mariah, and I love the idea of her skating to West Side Story, but I just don't understand the composition of her program. First the snappy music associated with the gang members, then the mournful "Somewhere," and then ending with "America" -- why, just because it's up-tempo? These music cuts don't tell the story of West Side Story at all, and Mariah's role in all of it is unclear: it seems like the music is asking her to portray everyone at once. I wish the program had been composed to follow Maria's character arc...

Oh ... what do you mean by 'trolling'? Do you mean like teasing everyone by not saying ahead of time, keeping his cards close to the chest?

It's too late at night for me to stay up any longer watching for an answer! :bed: ... but IF that's what you mean, I have a different take on it. I myself don't let people know if I'm working on doing something. Mostly because I freak myself out and put pressure on myself to live up to whatever I with my Big Mouth said.

Don't get me wrong, I don't know Nathan and am only speculating. But that seems to go along with his quiet but super driven personality.

If you meant something else by 'trolling,' sorry.

The PCS scores for Mirai and Karen are concerning. Seems you need to be in the high 8's and 9's to podium at the top events these days - unless you can pull huge TES scores.

That's exactly what I meant. But I'm not angry, rather than surprised and bemused. I know he's keeping his cards to his chest, which is a great strategy. Just leaves me laughing how this guy can keep surprising me.

To go back on topic, I wanted to say I'm way impressed with Mirai getting her 3A! It just shows, I think, that she needed to change something up in her efforts, to stop trying to fix everything (URs, expression) and do something in her skating that inspires her. In a way, that's the whole ball game.

And ... I LOVE her red dress!!! I think it's my favorite ever of her costumes. Ever. The high neck, the sleeveless look has such a streamlining effect. It makes her back and waist look longer. Also, I knew Jeffrey Buttle is a genius, but he has truly reached new heights with Miss Saigon. Like he sees into Mirai's soul and makes it visible.
