2017 GP Skate Canada Ladies SP

I have also watched every event on Match or Match Arena, now probably gonna use a stream from Russian social network with Yulia Lipnitskaya commenting:
Isnt Pitkeev & Lena I also commentating there ?

No shade against Osmond from me, I think she's among top 5 in the world, a terrific skater. My shade, having observed in person a couple of Skate Canada competitions and part of the London Worlds; is more against "home cooking". I saw 3 fall Chan win Worlds over a relatively clean D10, a very sloppy Chan win a close decision over a sloppy Hanyu at SC last year, or Vittue/moir returning from a 2 year layoff to edge Chock/Bates by less than 1 point last year. Whenever the competition was close, the Canadian always seemed to edge the competition. I expect no difference in the SC ladies this year. If Osmond is close to Pogo, Maria, or Wagner, I expect Osmond to come out on top.

I really think what people call homecooking can be said about all nations hosting. The worst is their Nationals and I hate to admit the US is the worst. Like I said in the old day 6.0's were a joke almost in the US - sorry Michelle but some of teams/skaters who got 6.0s were never medal contenders on the worldscene.

And in part skaters do better athome with all the cheering and support and positive feelings :)

I am not sure it is fair to pick on Chan (think Ms. Kostner) or the marks he got because many a times one wonders abotu Hanyu and why he scores so high pcs - and I know other shae thier opions/biases as we all do his edges and transitons and such (pcs are not really that close to Chan). But again a lot of this judging is in the ey of the beholder. But the shade on Osmond and Chan I am not sure is just. Well Chan is not much of a player on the skating scene.

I think in fairness from what we have seen of Osmond if she does her job she deserves to be considered in the top 5 skaters - she reminds much of Chouinard, Rochette, Manley (other Canadians) - personality, power and often unnoticed very good skating skills. Ashley may be a bigger diva but Osmond if you watch the speed, the edges, teh flow really deserves to be pushing the pcs.

To be honest if Pogo and Maria skate clean i mean absolutely clean they are better skaters than Kaetlyn, they have more difficult technical contents, because artistically they are all three great skaters.

Osmond FS at Worlds with the 2lo (it's literally the best she has ever done at an international stage) -> bv. 57.89 pts

Sotskova's FS at TDF 2016 with 3ltz< -> 61.04 pts

Pogorilaya's FS at GPF 2016 with 3F! -> 62.77 pts

So yes there is always a gap on the technical side about 4-5 points, sometimes even more.

Ashley Wagner is below these three skaters in my mind: skating skills not as great, her spins are super messy, and the jumps often underrotated.

Where i'm happy here is that judges are usually strict at skate canada, that could be an advantage for Kaetlyn or Anna as it turned out in the past, not so much for Marin which some of her jumps are tiny almost like Satoko's jumps.

How are y'all planning to watch this, by the way? I always watch Match Arena, but apparently they aren't broadcasting. So, looking for suggestions!

Olympic Channel is airing it live in the US, and I get the channel, so that's how I'm watching.

I wish you would be so strict with every skater... :agree:

I know you're refering to Medvedeva but she was here last season and she won with this strict panel.

Yes she is struggling with the lutz edge (just like Kaetlyn) but the rest is on par with the other top skaters, the little extra she has on her scores is due to the transitions which gives her high components and the consistency.

Everybody relax, in 3 hours Marin Honda will step on the ice in her senior Grand Prix debut. :coffee:

And this is supposed to make us relax???

I'm not worried about Marin. She seems like a lovely skater with a bright future. I am worried about my girl Anna P. I might even go put Garden Belly up just for her. I've been putting it off because I need to mow the lawn first and it's been rainy or I've been busy.

I'm interested that you find Maria on par with Kaetlyn artistically. I do not but I consider that to be a matter of personal preference. (sorry.. I'm referring to the early post). Artistically I'd put Kaetlyn in with the top six ladies in the world. It's Gabby who worries me because if she can't get the jumps down she's not going to be held up by the PCS. (Yes Gabby's not here but..)

I miss Satoko so much. Always so beautiful artistically.

Expect a good skating.
In Russia ALWAYS scores will be tailored; westerners are too naïve to understand that.

I think we understand it perfectly.....We just don't like it!!!!!

By the way, I didn't see any reports on Alaine or Courtney....How are they looking??

Difficult time ahead, my two favorites are competing against each other here:drama: Things look good for Maria but Anna is having difficulties right now. I hope both can skate clean and be proud in the end. I was so happy and relaxed last season that both were skating good consistently. I guess now it's my time to get stressed and fight with dyspepsia this season.

There are more interesting skaters for me this week comparing to Rostelecom. Maybe I must focus on my 2nd tier favorites to enjoy the competition such as Chen, Wagner and Craine. Good luck to all ladies and I hope it is going to be a fantastic weekend for all of us!

Is there anyway I can watch this online for free? I live in the US and don't have the Olympic Channel..
